I got fucked. I drove over paid for my pre-order, asked where my beta code number was and the gamestop clerk said "We don't know anything about a beta. Maybe they will email you one."

So I got into the Beta.

I've been playing the SOCOM Confrontation Beta which is the only reason I even bought a PS3 was for that franchise, and it is so clunky it's terrible. It seriously operates like a PS1 shooter. It's like driving a Yugo after Riding in a McLaren(COD4 Halo ETC) I'd go so far as to say it doesn't operate as well as Halo 1. Plus the graphics on it are way fucking shitty.

I'm seriously so dissapointed. the Graphics are freaking PS2 ish. The control functions are so choopy an unsmooth it's like it was made by retards. The nostalgia is pretty high, playing a new version of Crossroads from SOCOM 2.

The sound pops in and out. The game at times takes over 7 minutes to load. You are lucky if after the match ends you get back to the lobby. More often than not it just gets stuck and you have to restart your playstation. For a game that is coming out next month they have a lot of work to do.

Overall 3 out of 10.

Um, COD4 and Halo 3 both put out BETA's that were not even close to being both shitty quality and far from the finished product. I would def. get worked up

Yeah dude it's a beta for a game being on shelves in 20 something days.

They aren't going to address the fact that the game aims like a kid with downs with a bb gun.

This game is going to sucks as far as gameplay goes. The fun factor with friends and clans and what not will still be high, but as far as getting a thrill from the gameplay itself... not gonna happen. It is a PS1 or 2 game with lipstick on sold as a PS3 game.

The graphics really aren't the part of the game to bitch about. It is RSVish in it's look. As in it's pretty but rigid and not flowing. It's the shooter par of the shooter that is flat ass broke.

I think gary has been blowin his PC too long. We get that its a BETA Gary, but its a polished BETA set to accurately represent the finished product.If its shit 3 weeks out, chances are the bland look/feel of the game won't be fixed.

Finally got around to ordering a PS3.. any word if this game is solid? I heard there were some minor problems with the servers a bit ago- something to be expected from a new online game, I suppose. I know the headset is pretty good too, but it seems like if you were a Socom fan before, you're going to enjoy this, but if not it won't convert anyone.

When SOCOM: Confrontation (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3158587) was released last week, it was welcomed with praise and adulation...at least, it was when it worked. Sadly, the developers underestimated the amount of people who would quickly flood the servers on launch day, and the game was plagued with just about every glitch and bug you could imagine for an online game. Sony quickly put together a server update to resolve some of the issues, but players are still suffering from random disconnections, game shutdowns, and the loss of some user and clan information. Joe Rybicki (http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=8919321&publicUserId=4553267) noted in his 1UP review (http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3170791&p=37&sec=REVIEWS) that some people couldn't even get past the start screen and 1UP reviews editor Nick Suttner (http://www.1up.com/do/my1Up?publicUserId=5846636) chronicled his problems in his blog (http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=8916732&publicUserId=5846636). As expected, though, Sony is working hard on a "stability patch" to resolve these issues, which should be released "in the next week or so." According to director of development Seth Luisi on the official SOCOM website (http://socom.us.playstation.com/post/2008/10/SOCOM-Confrontation-Update-October-20th%2c-2008.aspx):
"In parallel to the server updates, we are also working on a new client patch which resolves some client side stability issues. These issues include getting booted to the XMB, large number of players getting disconnected from a specific game and other issues. We've been working on and testing this since the game launched and we should have a final version ready for release in the next week or so. It is hard to provide an exact date or timeframe as we need to make sure the patch is thoroughly tested and does not introduce any new issues."Luisi went on to offer some more upbeat news, though, explaining how the next step in their plan involves another patch that adds new features and addresses issues with the actual working game:
"We are also working on a patch to enable trophies and address various user feedback but this will be after the stability patch. Our top priority is getting both the servers and client as stable as possible before making any changes which could possibly cause other issues."Despite all this, the development team still sees the game as a success. Since launch, around 100,000 people log in every day for an average of 3.1 hours. Let's hope those numbers go up once they get the game running properly.

They included a new optional camera angle,where you can look over the shoulder of your character and switch from shoulder to shoulder.. pretty neat.

I loved Socom 1 and 2, but for some reason I can't get into confrontation. I love the COD series tho, COD5 wasn't that good, COD4 was amazing. Can't wait til modern warefare 2 comes out!
