I haven't played a Star Ocean game in a long time.

This one looks really intriguing.

I cant wait to pick it up and try it for my self.

I picked this up last week and so far I've been really impressed. The story is blah, but the combat engine is really fun. I'm not more than 15-20 hours in, but from what I've heard there is a ton of extra stuff to do after beating the game.

Yeah I impuls bought this game, and it is surprisingly fun. Lately Street fighter has been eating up all my time so I'm no more than about 5 hours in, and I agree that the story so far isn't anything special, but the combat is a lot of fun.

I haven't sunk my teeth into a good RPG in awhile, so I'm pretty happy with it.

I've thought about purchasing this sometime, but I'm still working my way through Lost Odyssey. Any of you play that? Now THAT rpg has a good story. And the memories will almost bring a tear to your eye if played in the right atmosphere. . .(and w/o fast-advancing the txt in them)

I haven't played it, but I should've. I bought Last Remnant and played it for about 30 minutes then haven't touched it since.

Could still be a good game but it was another impulse buy, and I couldn't vibe with it. I may still give Lost Odyssey a chance.

This game is pretty awesome. I actually like it better than Lost Odyssey, though I will admit that the story in LO is superior to that of Star Ocean. Still, I think the battle system in Star Ocean is a lot more in depth and fun than LO's. Just wait until you guys get to the Colosseum. I found opened it up at around midnight on Thursday night...and was still doing battles at 2:30.
Just one more match...just one more match...just one more match...
Shit's addictive as hell.

Yea, I did. You can't even compare the two in regards to story. I play Star Ocean on mute because the lines are so awful. Lost Odyssey's story was actually pretty engrossing. But I will say that the gameplay is way more fun in SO. So far, I enjoy SO more than LO in spite of the ridiculously awful story/voice acting. There's a cool crafting system in place that allows you to make most of your own stuff including food, spells, gear, etc.

Wow, Bacchus => Black hole sphere-judgement savior-Black hole sphere-termination = broken

Couple that with Meracle => Drill claw-Drill claw-Drill claw and you pretty much tear apart any enemy in the game

If you like a good storyline (albeit, as mentioned above here, it's a bit slower-paced) and some really gripping writing then you should check out Lost Odyssey. But in reading the memories, don't press anything to speed them up. The presentation is actually what makes them so gripping/emotional.

As for Star Ocean. .I'm definitely thinking I'll have to pick it up. Are the PSP ones any sort of tell as to the XB version? I *finally* modded my PSP and have yet to download many good PSP games for it. (or PS for that matter). The best I've gotten are a few Sega CD games for it.
(Lunar I & II, Eternal Champions CD, Sonic CD, etc)

Um, basically the storyline is bareable at best and the most of the voice acting is awful. If you're getting the game, do it only for the great battle system and the item creation (which somehow seems shallower than in second story and 'Till the End of Time). I bought it out of love of the series but I'd definitely only recommend renting it and beating it, unless you're one of the people that likes to try to beat games with 100% completion.
