MARYSVILLE, Wash. – A father arrested after his 6-year-old daughter was fatally shot in their Washington state home allegedly told authorities he had been drinking double shots of vodka while cleaning his guns.
Court papers say Richard Peters told detectives he had asked his daughter, Stormy, to bring him the .45-caliber handgun Sunday. He said he must have pulled the trigger, and the girl fell to the floor. She was pronounced dead Monday.
Bail for Peters, 42, was set Monday at $250,000. He has been arrested for investigation of first-degree manslaughter.
His attorney, Annika Carlsten, requested that Peters be released from jail, The Herald newspaper of Everett reported. She argued that Peters isn't a flight risk, or a danger to himself or the community.
"It's obviously a tragedy for all involved and my primary concern is for my client and his family," Carlsten told The Associated Press on Tuesday night, declining to discuss any specifics.
The Snohomish County sheriff's office said two other children were removed from the home by Child Protective Services.

I guess one condition of his bail would be not to clean guns while drinking double shots? How can his lawyer say somebody that stupid isn't a risk to anybody?

Eh, Id want to see if he had any past problems with the law. Im sure the guy feels fuckin horrible. If everyone who did an incredibly stupid thing was put into jail, Arkansas wouldnt even exist.

He should feel terrible about it. Maybe he will drown his sorrows with some moonshine while cleaning his guns. If it isn't enough that he was completely skunked while cleaning his guns, he also was too lazy to go fetch his own guns. He asked his daughter to handle firearms while they were loaded.
I don't mind that Americans think that everybody should have a gun in their house, trunk of their car, office, school or whatever. If you have guns however, you take responsibility for the consequences.
If it were up to me Arkansas wouldn't exist either.

He probably could hire himself an ACLU lawyer and sue the gun manufacturer for not having a sticker on it saying "Do not clean while doing Vodka Shots"!
BTW - What does this have to do with the NRA?
Idiots get drunk and kill people while behind the wheel of automobiles every day. Maybe we should ban automobiles???

Ok, over/under him doing that and winning the case? I'd honestly put money saying he could sue the gun maker and win.

You two are idiots. And it is silly for even trying to educate idiots/trolls. But I will anyway, in the hope that others will read and understand why you are idiots, on the off-chance that they did not already realize this.
First of all, the ACLU is for Civil Liberties, not for criminal defense. Second, the issue of the criminal charges is separate from a potential civil suit. That is, he cannot use a "failure to warn" defense as a defense to his criminal charges.
Third, no such "failure to warn" case would ever be winnable. Note that anyone can sue for anything, but they're not going to win. You are idiots if you really believe that such a suit might be successful or that some gun manufacturer would ever pay settlement money on such a claim. Go elsewhere and spread your ignorance. Maybe try the conspiracy thread where you can each spout on about how the ACLU is to blame for society's downfall.

I don't need an explaination of the ACLU's platform or how winnable this case would or would not be in litigation!
I was using sarcasm, which you obviously didn't pick up on.
No doubt, this is a horrendous tragedy!
The gun-ban lobby will no doubt use this story (and stories like this) as fodder to promote their agenda.
The greater tragedy in this case was that this idiot father was allowed to reproduce in the first place!
