ScienceDaily (Nov. 27, 2008) — Researchers have uncovered what may be a universal cause of aging, one that applies to both single cell organisms such as yeast and multicellular organisms, including mammals. This is the first time that such an evolutionarily conserved aging mechanism has been identified between such diverse organisms.

I'll see you mother fuckers in 2108.

Why would that happen?.... in a world?

I am a bit confused, I thought it was already known what causes a cell and a complex system like an animal to age. I thought it was the tips of the DNA i think they are called telemeres (sp?) stripping off the top of the chain each time a cell reproduces.

Why would he ask an art major about biology?

And the next time anyone refers to jj as "Arch", I'm gonna fucking cut someone.

"I don't know what kind of weapons will be used in the third world war, assuming there will be a third world war. But I can tell you what the fourth world war will be fought with - stone clubs." (Albert Einstein)

Haha, right. See you in 2108! ..If you make it that long.

Well, as a bio guy, I'll tell you that this research isn't really anything new. In response to what someone else asked, a lot of people thought telemeres were the answer to aging, but it's looking like they might not be. Most tumors don't cut off the telomeres and so they can just keep growing, but doing that in normal cells would often just cause tumor-type growth. So yeah, people are going to keep aging, and dying, and the world is just going to have to live with that.

Just imagine, sometime in the future humans may look back at our era dazzled at how we managed to cope with existence when all humans actually had to grow old and die...
