The first season is the only one based off the book. The 2nd season and this season are their own thing, which is probably a good thing since I heard the 3rd book sucked donkey balls.

No, but I've been meaning to pick up the books (at the very least, the first two). The 3rd one dives into supernatural shit, saying there are spirits in Dexter's head directing him. Stupid shit like that. But I still wanna read them. They've been re-issued since the show started in paperback with Michael Hall on the cover. Might look into it in the next few weeks.

I bought the first two on paperback, and took the third one out of the library. I couldn't even finish it once they got into the supernatural garbage.

Personally, I'm hoping Lundy makes a return to further investigate things a little bit. I liked his character a lot, he and Dexter had real good chemistry together, and I would like to see him have some sort of resolution.

LaGuerta turning on Dexter would be a real interesting plotline as well.

Oh, and the new head writer used to be the head writer on The Shield. I can't wait to see what direction the show takes as a whole.

The first two are pretty good. The second season reeeally steers away from the books but theres some shit that might not jive with TV

Doakes (and several other victims) gets all of his limbs, eyelids, tongue, ears, etc slowly removed by the "main killer" and is reduced to a lump that can only scream.

I think the series is actually better than the books though, one of those rare cases. Haven't read the third.

But they do need to include the Rita's children storyline at some point.

I just can't see how the show is better than the actual books. The show is awesome, but the books just worked better. The books also get the nod for having more Doakes and not delving into that horrid side-plot with his obnoxious mistress. The first season stayed relatively true to the first book up until the end (the book's ending was way more awesome) Killing that bitch LaGuerta instead of his brother, who was actually one of the better characters, was a much better ending and set up Dexter's conflicts with the code of Harry better. The relationship between him and his sister also plays better in the books where she knows that he's a killer. I loved the books' side story with Rita's messed up kids, and I preferred the way Dexter was portrayed as a much darker and more psychopathic character.

I don't think there are any aliens involved. This is the backcover synopsis by the author Jeff Lindsay-

This shows fucking brilliant. Great episode. As for Miguels fate, I think it's pretty clear. In the first book Dex didn't kill his brother/Ice Truck Killer, so it's entirely possible for Dexter to allow someone guilty of the code, but Miguel is an entirely different situation. The parallels between Dexter and the Skinner were obvious tonight, Dex giving tips to Deb about the violations to codes and the primary violation he mentioned was disrespect. It's apparent to Dexter and the audience now that Miguel has done nothing but disrespect, manipulate and lie to Dexter since the night at Freebo's. I loved the inner rage they showed with Dexter smashing up his office internally, but remaining his calm and emotionally void self to the real world. This season is so much better than last it's ridiculous.

The finale to season 3 was enjoyable. I especially liked the banter and the fight between Dexter and the Skinner and hearing the snap of Skinner’s neck. I have almost given up hope in seeing Debra die. In the next season, I’ll settle for her being beaten and violated in various ways.

Dexter is reallly moving into in his own as a person now. He put his daddy issues to rest this season, discovered emotion with rita, became a father...he doesn't need Deb around anymore. She was his gadfly that would poke him into remembering familial obligations and keep him acting "normal". And now that she has been used as a plot device several times now (ice truck, lindy, anton/skinner), we don't need her around. The show is about Dexter, not Dexter and family (although i guess it is now that he has his own). My point is Deb will be dried out for materials sake and can (should) be killed off.
