Reaper return reported (http://www.tv.com/story/11971.html?part=rss&subj=11971&tag=news-summary-11971)

High on our list of last year's best new shows, the CW's Reaper nearly made us renounce our faith in Satan when the show was in danger of being canceled. But The CW came to its senses and saved Reaper's soul by renewing the program for a second season at the last second, allowing the TV.com offices to let out a collective sigh of relief. And now we know when we can see more...

The CW has scheduled the premiere of Reaper's second season for Tuesday nights beginning March 17. The 13-episode season (which could be extended) will be paired with one of the network's most popular shows, 90210. The last episode of Reaper aired in late May.

And while some will argue that the pairing doesn't quite make sense, it's the belief of this writer that Reaper just needs to be seen to be loved and hope is being held for it to flourish in that time slot.

Reaper stars Bret Harrison as a 20-something guy who reluctantly works as a bounty hunter for the Devil after his parents sell his soul. The supernatural-tinged mix of comedy and drama also stars Ray Wise, Tyler Labine, and Missy Peregrym.

I enjoy this show, I'm glad it's back. I really needed to know what happened to dad.

Frankly, I think this is the only series positioned directly at my generation, and it's fucking awesome. I identified with Smallville for a while, but then it went weird, which was OK, and then it went retarded, which was...retarded. I have high hopes for the next couple years, after that, well I still have high hopes, but absent the confidence. Nonetheless, this is the best series on television right now.

Isn't awesome that it's basically already been canned, because CW doesn't want anything funny on their network anymore?

AWESOME, CW. AWESOME.

Already been canned after its first episode? Sci Fi needs to pick it up then.

The CW said they were moving away from comedy shows, and adding more shows like Gossip Girl and 90210. They already have announced what shows are coming back next year, and Reaper isn't one of them.

Now, naturally...we went through the same shit last year...but I don't see them keeping it. I see someone else trying to pick it up though. It's got a nice little following.

SO, before yelling at me, maybe you should actually read some stuff first (I believe I read the article as it was re-posted on AICN).

God damnit. Sock's already found other work. That's not a good sign.

March 12, 2009 - Tyler Labine (http://stars.ign.com/objects/914/914523.html), who plays Sock on Reaper (http://tv.ign.com/objects/880/880161.html), has been cast in the lead role in the new FOX pilot Sons of Tucson (http://tv.ign.com/objects/143/14315226.html). Which begs the question – what about Reaper?

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Labine's casting on Tucson is in "second position" to Reaper - meaning in the event Tucson is ordered as a series for next season and Reaper also gets a renewal, Labine remains with Reaper. On the comedy Tucson, Labine would play a man in his 30s hired by three boys to act as their father while their real father is in prison.

Reaper has been suffering some poor ratings however since it came back two weeks ago on The CW and its male-centered, fantasy oriented storyline is a poor fit with most of The CW's schedule, except for the Thursday night Smallville / Supernatural pairing. The problem is, with CW only airing two hours of programming a night, Reaper can't go on Thursdays too. As a Reaper fan, I'm crossing my fingers it can survive, but Labine being cast in this other pilot isn't a positive sign.

Put this and Supernatural on Tuesdays and I'm sure it would do fine. Thursdays is a pretty ambitious slot. Good for Labine though, he deserves recognition for his awesomeness, I remember watching him 12 years ago on Breaker High, a Canadian show about a high school on a cruise ship. God that show was wacky!

You mean the early renewals? That was from February, ie. before Reaper even started.

No shit. This season has been great. I just hope they had planned for this being the last season, and actually have a SERIES finale. No cliff hanger shit since it isn't coming back.

Also. Nina. Yeah. I want to do things to her.

Is this show totally dead? Not sure of the date I read this article, but in the article it said the series might be sold to another network or it would go into syndication.

seperate question, why would it go into syndication when it only has like 30 episodes? or is what I'm thinking the definition of syndication wrong?

ShitBreak
05-30-2009, 07:26 PM
syndication just means a lesser network has the rights to the show, and the markets can determine if they show it or not.

For example...Wheel of Fortune is in syndication. It's still new though.

But yeah, Reaper is dead. It's done.

It'd be nice if they just did a special or a TV movie or something, but they won't, WB is too focused on pandering to teen girls. Socks already in a new show as well, so hopefully he brings the awesome again.

what show is Sock in now? I never seen him before this show, I don't think, yeah hopefully he is good on other shows/movies whichever and not just the perfect fit for the Sock role.
