This past Election Day, I volunteered to work as what’s referred to as a “poll rover”. The basic gist of the gig is that you ride around to the precincts you’ve been assigned, making sure the voting machines are functional and that the poll workers have all the materials they need (seeing as how they can’t leave their stations until the end of the day). As I was leaving my first precinct, I had to make my way through a very narrow parking lot. Making matters challenging is the fact that I drive a fairly large truck, but that wasn’t the worst of it. I had to drive near the front door of the building where the by this time the 100+ person-long line was gathering, and sure enough they were backed out into the road. Did these folks move as I was nearing them? Did they flee in terror at the notion of being hit by a Chevy Silverado? Nope, they stood there like the idiots they were/are. I can only assume that they figured if I hit them, they still come out winners because I was moving at less than 5 MPH and personal injury lawyers love shit like that.
So in honor of getting out of the way of oncoming traffic, I give you – BLOCK DODGE!
