Saw this on AICN http://www.aintitcool.com/node/39486
According to Reeves, Cowboy Bebop currently revolves around expanding the anime's first episode, "Asteroid Blues," into a two hour movie, with producer Erwin Stoff minding the project at 20th Century Fox. “We’ve got the rights, we’ve got a writer,” Keanu explained. “He’s putting together a scene outline.”You have got to be kidding me. Spike was a charismatic character, Keanu is far from that shit. STOP RAPING MY FAV.THINGS HOLLYWOOD!!!!!
Discuss.
*Bizz apparently posted a link somewhere for this as well, but i didn't know. So credit to Bizz as well*

Keanu is not a good actor. I just can't understand why he keeps getting roles. I am le sad now. Peanut butter and bananas will make this better.

Keanu used to be so dreamy during his Speed and Johnny Mnemonic days. He might've pulled this off during those days with just his boyish good looks. If we're gunna talk about acting skills, Boy Reeves don't really have it. He's got three expressions, his wtf face, his angry warrior face, and his oh shit face. They got him through the Matrix, but they're getting old. :(

I didn't see it, but Cowboy Bebop is way to fucking sweet for the likes of him. They shouldn't touch it unless they use a wacked out Japanese cast and cast Spike with this fool.

Meh, I don't think he can capture all that is Spike but since all such translations to film are doomed for some kind of change or screw up I'm more then happy to settle for Keanu's Spike over how else Hollywood could FUBAR the lead.
Won't be the same, but could still be made into something of its own. Keanu has a good track record of not staring in shit.

True story. It's a running joke in my circle of friends that I kept rerenting and watching Johnny Mnemonic because I'd completely forgotten seeing it until about 20 minutes into the movie. Must've rented that like 5 times. Fuck Keanu

This one isn't gunna be all that great. What I care about is Spielberg not fucking up the live action Ghost in the Shell. If we ended up with another Aeon Flux, I'm gunna strangle someone.

Yeah, I can definitely see Hollywood making a cyberpunk action thriller that quotes Corinthians and references Milton while asking serious ontological questions. I mean, Transformers, damn if that wasn't profound.

Two hours isn't gunna be enough for them to delve into that. I was thinking more or less like Blade Runner.

Yeah, but that was Ridley Scott at his best: If memory serves, Spielberg's forays into cyberpunk are Minority Report and AI...

It's a different medium and a different audience that have never been exposed to the story. Everything needs to be reintroduced in a dumbed down way for Americans without overdoing it and pissing off the hardcore fans. I should submit my own storyboard to Spielberg.

Don't forget that James Cameron is serving up a Battle Angel Alita flick. I actually have high hopes for that one.

I still can't decide if I'm excited to see NGE. There is no possible way they won't butcher the story, but.... the prospect of Weta doing the special effects are mouthwatering.

I'll tell you what needs to go live action and would be fairly easy to translate.
Berserk.
Rated OMFG (for language, gore, violence, sexual themes, x1000)

I started off liking it, but about 6 episodes into it, I detected a significant change in the quality of the writing. It got sucky. Maybe new writers took over. I dunno.

I'll admit each episode by itself isn't necessarily something to write home about, but the overarching story they tell is definitely worth the time. Just a shame they never finished the story. Talk about ending on a cliffhanger.

Update: http://www.aintitcoolnews.com/node/39788
Keanu Reeves will topline (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117998641.html?categoryid=13&cs=1) 20th Century Fox's big screen adaptation of the very popular COWBOY BEBOP series. A relative unknown screenwriter, Peter Craig, is attached to pen the adaptation with Sunrise Inc. (original anime producers) working closely with Fox on the adaptation.
Click on the link for a little more insight from an anime fan about cowboy bebop, as well as who they would like to see in the role.

Whoa.
Why? Why? I just don't see them pulling this off. They better cast someone good for Faye.
