I've been watching a lot of MLB TV.

I'm liking the channel and I have a pretty good feeling about it.
I do however, have a problem.

Sure, I like the Red Sox and enjoy seeing their "reverse the curse" footage every once in a while. But how many times are they going to play this, and other Recdc Sox games? I understand that they are starting this channel up and and need to get people watching it, but DANG!!!!

Also, they are showing World Series games in their entirety, and thats fine with me.
In fact I love the idea.
But the 2008 World Series?
Already?

MLBTV is going to be great becasue they will have the right to show anything they want, so why not start right now by taking advantage of that fact.

How about a few game 7s?

How about a great All Star Game?

They own all the games and the tapes to all the games, right?

Anyone else have any thoughts on this channel and what they'd like to see?

It's a great addition to NBA TV and the NFL Network. It always gives me something to watch. Come on NHL, get the fuck on board already.

THere is an NHL network. Do you think it sucks?

I'm enjoying the replays of the Phils/Rays world series!

I'm liking the guys on the panel so far.
I love Harlold Reynolds and I'm liking Mitch Williams' view on things.
I think he has an interesting point of view with what he's been through.
Al Leiter is alright too, but he needs some work in my eyes.

I'm not the biggest Larkin fan though. I hate people that interupt.

You have to keep in mind it just launched and they don't have their entire grid set in stone.

That said, they have to establish a structure for the offseason that differs from the regular season. When the season starts, they're going to have very limited time for old footage.

I wish we had access to it up here... I really want it.

I know, it's just that they have an entire catalog of millions of games.

I'm sure they are going to get things going soon, but I just wish they would start showing more things, ya know?

Specials on specific players and such.

reading this on their website the other day made me a little sad.

MLB Network will air 26 live games throughout the season

i thought they'd have more exclusive games than that.

It's better that it has fewer games. If your team is on FSN everyday, why would you want MLBTV to have a few of those games? Then you're paying extra for a channel to see the games you'd have gotten to see for free (for those who wouldn't want MLBTV)

I'm sure that they are thinking that they have to continue to make $ off of their season packages that they sell.

They did go behind the scenes and show all of the rooms in the studio (like a tour)
They said that they will be "joining in" on a lot of games.

It's all in HD too, that's cool.

detroitwilly
01-03-2009, 07:15 PM
I agree with 29a.
I'm watching the Tigers every night on FSN anyway.

I'll probably flip to MLB after the Tiger gam and see whats going on with other games instead of looking at The Wolrd Series of Poker every fucking night on ESPN and ESPN2.

Mitch Williams

MLB Tonight and Hot Stove Analyst

Williams most recently was the post-game analyst on Comcast Sportsnet's Phillies Post Game Live. Additionally, he was featured on TBS's game of the week Sunday pre-game shows and served as a weekly contributor and baseball expert on 610-WIP's Angelo Cataldi morning show in Philadelphia. Williams also hosted his own radio show, "The Wild Pitch," on the Phillies Broadcast Station 1210-WPHT in Philadelphia. He earned 192 saves and posted 3.65 ERA in his 11 Major League seasons with the Texas Rangers (1986-88), the Chicago Cubs (1989-90), the Phillies (1991-93), the Houston Astros(1994), the California Angels (1995) and the Kansas City Royals (1997). Williams twice led his league in games pitched. Williams was a National League All-Star in 1989 with the N.L. East Champion Cubs, with whom he earned the nickname "Wild Thing." He posted a career-high 43 saves in 1993 and then went 2-0 with two saves in the N.L. Championship Series, helping vault the Phillies into the World Series.

Does he at least speak coherent English? I used to think that was a requirement to be a tv broadcaster but then I saw some of the assholes that ESPN and the networks throw out there.

Mike Franscesa of Mike and the Mad Dog was killing the MLB tv idea. Why? It's not costing any channels. Eventually everything will have its own channels. It was ok with him frothe NFL but not MLB. I understand teh difference in broadcasting hours between the two of them but baseball as a historical game plays much much better than football. All baseball fans know something about at least some guys that played before they were born and frequently long before they were born. Not nearly the same goes for football. They can use that to their advantage. There's plenty of shit they can do. I agree they can't just steal marquee games on unusual nights like NFL is doing the last two years but I think maybe their in season move is to set up some hot shit show that covers every game at once. Like Baseball Tonight does but somehow better. Not sure what else they could do. It'll definitely be interesting to see...if I get the channel.

they installed cameras in all the MLB parks. These cameras can be controlled from their studios.
Every night during the regular season, the will have a show called MLB Tonight that starts at 6 and ends after the last pitch of the night.
They say they will be "dropping in" on different games every night, and checking out key at-bats or what ever else is going on.

It will be interesting for sure.

26 games isn't that bad. It's not like the NFL Network is showing a live game every week.

Do the classic games on some of these networks piss you off? When I hear classic, I want something from the 70s, or 80s... maybe a little Bird, Magic, Stockton, not LeBron's rookie debut. The NHL is worse, showing games from last season between the same two teams. The only one of these exclusive sports channels with good classic games for me has been Leafs TV with games from the 60s, and 70s, and the NFL Network occasionally too. I hope MLBTV gets into some real classic games in the offseason.

ShitBreak
01-05-2009, 02:56 PM
Their definition of classics are "instant classics". I would much rather watch LeBron's rookie debut then some game with a bunch of no name retards from the 70s.

And I bet the networks feel the same way.

This week there is a different series debuting each night. (this is the first officiail week of programing)
I was thinking the same thing at the begining.

this network is going to get better and better.

Legendary sportscaster Bob Costas has signed a multi-year deal to join the upstart MLB Network, the league announced Tuesday.
A lifelong baseball fan who covered the game regularly for NBC during the 1980s and '90s, Costas, 56, will host several original documentaries and be the lead play-by-play voice for a select number of the upcoming season's 26 nationally-televised Thursday night games.
His first assignment is an exclusive interview with Dodgers manager (and now published author) Joe Torre that is scheduled to air at 8 p.m. Thursday (Ch. 279 on Comcast, 213 on DirecTV).

Costas will remain the face of NBC Sports.

Prime 9 is awesome. They actually have credible guys on there.
The World Baseball Classic coverage was amazing. And 30 clubs in 30 days is more in depth than anything ESPN has ever done.

They have a lot of ST games too. Some of them are repeats. The other day McCann got hurt in a game. The next day they had the game he got hurt on that night.

TVersity on a XP machine will allow you to use internet streams on your 360..

If I remember right, when you start a stream up, right click it, copy stream or copy link or something like that, then put it into TVersity?

I've never tried it, but sounds like it would work.
