TDK tied for 3rd? Not bad. Naturally it'll probably only win 1.
It's awesome to see Downey get nominated for Tropic Thunder. If not for Ledger, Downey should just win that shit off of the principle of his awesomeness.

WALL-E gets a screenplay nod but not The Wrestler. There aren't even words in half of WALL-E! And Springsteen doesn't even get a nom for best original song.

I was kinda shocked at that too. I think Wall-E is a great movie but the screenplay is hardly stellar. Who thought "hmmm we wont give TDK a nod because that kids film about robots was so much more original and deep".

Alright Oscars! Way to guarantee I won't give two fucks about who you pick for winners, because you can't even get the fucking nominations right.
No "Wrestler" nods other then Mickey Rourke is bullshit. And no "Gran Torino" nods at all?
Now I know why they hold the Oscars in LA in Februrary: If they went anywhere else it'd be too cold for their pussies.

I think Filmdrunk sums it up the best.
Wow. Nice to see Mickey Rourke on there, but The Wrestler is a hell of a lot better than any of their best picture nominees. Frost/Nixon? Milk? The Reader? Is this an award for great filmmaking or the IMPORTANT STORY FROM HISTORY award? And I’m sure you’ll all notice the Dark Knight snub. Even if you don’t think it deserves a best picture nomination (I’m on the fence, myself), Chris Nolan still deserves a best director nod (this dismissive wank is for you, Ron Howard). It’s much harder to make a believable movie (http://filmdrunk.uproxx.com/#) about Batman than it is to make yet another holocaust masturbation. Do they realize what they’ve done? They’ve made us bored. With THE HOLOCAUST. At some point, they may have to recruit some members of the Academy who aren’t a million years old. Just a thought.

Is RDJ in Tropic Thunder, and In Bruges (OG Screenplay) the only "comedies" that got nominated?
Seriously...the whole "Let's go with a sappy drama" shit needs to stop. Some comedies are just as well made and has just as good acting as a good chunk of the dramas.

I would have to agree with you. The Oscars pretty much go for dramtic roles and movies, they are very closed minded. I think everyone and movie should be considered for oscars during voting, and not just have the focus on certain movies. Look at The Dark Knight, 2nd highest grossing film of all time, and while it did get 8 nominations, it was shut out for best director and screenplay. I'm not saying it should be up for best pciture, although it was one of the best movies of the year, but because its from the comic book/ action genre, probably was not even considered, as it goes for other movies as well.

People are bitching about no comedies being nominated in a year when Robert Downey Jr. got nominated for one of the most ridiculous (and great) performances of all-time? You people must not watch the Oscars very often. Comedies NEVER get nominated for ANYTHING. And I want it to stay that way, because you know what the Oscars will become if popular comedies are nominated in every category? The fucking Grammys.
ShitBreak
01-22-2009, 04:51 PM
So by not recognizing the other half of the movie spectrum, the Oscars would become an awards show that recognizes all forms of music?
That makes sense.
Never said they had to be the "popular comedies"...only a retard would say that. It's like if they said only "popular dramas" can be recognized. Look at the fucking list of what all is nominated. Most of it, EVERY YEAR, is shit that didn't make blockbuster-type money.

Have you seen the Grammys, and the shit that they've nominated for the past decade? LIL FUCKING WAYNE GOT NOMINATED THIS YEAR. Having that happen makes your awards show a joke. So I'm ok with a system that prevents White Chicks or The Pacifier from getting nominated, even if it excludes a few worthy choices. Winning an Oscar still means something. Winning a Grammy is basically like winning an MTV award now. If anything, give them their own category. I'd be ok with that.

That is so fucking stupid and ignorant. Who's saying that White Chicks should be nominated. Comedic acting is just as hard to do great as drama, if not harder. To say that utter shit like Meet The Spartans shouldn't be nominated is fucking asinine, man. What about Pineapple Express, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Foot Fist Way to name a few. There were some great comedies this year with some great acting within. Fucking dolt.

You say that. But Lil Wayne did get nominated for a Grammy this year. Which isn't to say that rap music shouldn't be nominated. But BAD rap music should not be nominated. And guess what? It is. My argument is that if you start nominating comedies, then eventually bad comedies will get nominated. White Chicks, that Lil Wayne of cinema, will turn your awards show into a joke.

MUSIC (SONG)
"Down to Earth" - WALL-E

They couldn't narrow it down to one Slumdog Millionaire song to make room for Bruce Springsteen's extremely Bruce Springsteen-esque Wrestler song?
