When a cataclysmic force merges conquerors from two universes, conflict is inevitable. Kombat forces friends to fight, worlds to collide, and unlikely alliances to be forged. In order to save all they know, the heroes and villains of Mortal Kombat must wage war against the combined might of the DC Universe (DCU). How can either side prevail when rage blinds them to the dark threat poised to destroy them all?
For the first time ever Scorpion, Sub Zero and the warriors from Midway’s billion-dollar fighting franchise face off against Batman, Superman and other iconic and powerful DC Super Heroes, featuring signature attacks for both sides and a unique and intertwining storyline, written as a collaboration between the Mortal Kombat creative team and top comic scribes Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray. Choose your side and challenge your opponents with a new fighting system including Freefall Kombat and Klose Kombat along with dynamic multi-tiered environments. Plus, pick your favorite character from MK or DCU and pursue a fighting adventure in the new single player mode with an intertwined storyline and two unique perspectives.

Haha, the Joker's finishing move was awesome. I also enjoyed billy fucking one-move Superman getting sparked by Sub-Zero. Jury is still out for me though, I was never a big fan of MK games.

I'm actually looking forward to playing more with the DC roster than the MK.

Deathstroke
Flash
Green lantern
Shazam

Those are whom I'm looking forward to playing with. I wonder if Flash will have any projectile moves? He shouldn't but how are they gonna balance him?

does anyone know what the expected roster is for both DC and MK? I figure it won't feature the whole roster that was on MK Armageddon.

Comic book fans who pick up the special Kollector's Edition of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3167435) are in for an unexpected treat. In addition to standard pack-ins like a making-of DVD and 16 page comic book, your extra ten dollars will get you an exclusive, removable cover print created by renowned comic artist Alex Ross.Best known for his work on Marvels, Kingdom Come, and Justice, Ross' art has a very striking, almost photorealistic quality that relies on ink and paint rather than modern technology. Regardless of your feelings about the game itself, commissioning Alex Ross is a very savvy move by Midway that should get more than a few comic junkies to check out MK vs DC Universe when it releases next month.

Get ready to watch your childhood heroes be torn to pieces (literally) in the next few weeks. Midway has announced that Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3167435) is officially set to hit store shelves on November 16 in North America and November 21 in Europe. If you can't guess by the title, the fighting game will feature characters from both the Mortal Kombat series and DC Comics duking it out in arenas based in both their respective universes. The full roster (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3169887) will include the best of both worlds, such as Superman, Sub-Zero, Batman, Liu Kang, and...er, Deathstroke. The main feature people are looking forward to the most though? Fatalities, of course -- or "brutalities" in the cases of the non-killing superheroes. Because let's face it, as children we all wondered just what would happen if these superheroes ever lost badly. Finally we'll get to see Batman facing off against Sub-Zero, a foe who freezes his enemies in their tracks. Oh, wait... (http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00018/ed_imgRSNN1921XX_18681a.jpg)

This sucks. They should've just gone all out and made it a M-rated game.

http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/kotaku/2008/10/mkvsdc_joker.jpg

First the good news. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is still great fun. We played it (http://kotaku.com/5068094/new-details-on-mk-vs-dcs-unique-story-mode-model-viewer-dlc-plans-and-more) from the comfort of the Kotaku couch this week and had a blast. Now the bad news. That amazing Joker fatality, the one where... well, if you haven't seen it yet, we'd suggest you watch it now (http://kotaku.com/5040864/mk-vs-dc-joker-will-shoot-you-in-the-face). It's awesome. Anyway, it's been changed up a bit, toned down to just slightly less than awesome to secure that highly coveted T-rating that Midway and Warner Bros. are so adamant about. In the latest build, Joker still whips out his prank gun, a "BANG!" flag unfurling. Unfortunately, you won't see the follow up of Joker shooting someone in the face; that actually happens off screen now, the headshot safely out of sight.
We asked Midway's Ed Boon about the difficulty in getting that T-rating, something he said the team has been working closely with the ESRB on. They've sent "at least three" submissions to the ESRB, going in with something that's full of M-rated content, getting feedback and "scaling it back."
Another Fatality that's seen some revision was Kitana's, one that involved her opponent being impaled by her trademark blade-fans. Initially, the first fan went into the torso, the other into the forehead. That second was a T-rating no-no. Double fans delivered to the chest, however, that's a T-rated way to end someone's life.
Sure, it's disappointing — Joker's original finishing move was one of the best we've ever seen — but the game would simply not exist with an M-rating. We'll just have to take solace in the archived video-only version, occasionally rewatch it misty-eyed and forlorn, and realize we're going to get the game regardless.

i'm probably going to get this game simply for the fact that i loved the original mortal kombat games and this looks like a bit of a return to the old skool that used to get crowds gathered around the ol' arcade at the mall...

the lack of blood and gore, on the other hand, makes me want to punch the guys at midway in the fucking throat, particularly after showing everyone the joker fatality and then telling us they've taken it out. fucking dickalopes.

No. Too much money. Just release it as a T but have the option to turn gore on.

No. Too much money. Just release it as a T but have the option to turn gore on.

Could they do that and still have a T rated game? That would be ideal I would think. If not, then release an optional downloadable patch that allows this option. Imagine the controversy there though when thinking how it could apply to other games. Or would they be bound to the original ESRB ruling?

It would be awesome honestly.

Much looser.

I wasnt exactly inspired by the trailer, the voice acting was poor and the character models arent what I would expect from next-gen consoles, Soul Calibur looked better.

Yeah, the voice acting sounds really uninspired. Batman and Joker in particular sound like two dudes they pulled in off the street doing Batman and Joker impressions.

Skybase

I'm still looking at getting the game. I've never purchased a MK game thinking to myself "Wow, what an amazing story. . .and the voice acting, top notch!" In fact, I'm not sure I really remember anything in those terms except a bunch of fools are gathered by some weirdo to fight eachother to the death and rip eachother apart. That and. . . "Get Over Here!". (Or "Come Here" on the SNES)

doesn't mean I'm excited by some of the developments I've seen in the game, and quite frankly figure the series basically dead since it's gone 3D, if not before. But I'm a glutton, and will give it yet another chance.

I rented it today, saw everything I needed to, swapped it out for Guitar Hero WT three hours later.

The Flash kicks some ass, the Joker not so much, the luster of having DC fighters in just another MK game wears off pretty quick.

Why on earth did the choose DC over Street fighter. That would have been so fucking cool.

Skybase

I'm actually enjoying the story mode. Beat it w/ the DC side, and I think the Joker's a blast. Playing AS him in story-mode he was just on par w/ lots of the others (DC side) however for a fighting game (and especially a Mortal Kombat game) the storyline's actually alright. Sure it's hokey but not nearly as bad as I'd have expected. Controls don't feel sloppy, even as horrid as I really am at the game. A fighting game is just that, and will likely get boring somewhat quickly but the story mode kept me going longer than I probably would have otherwise. MUCH better than selecting one person, fighting like 8-10 guys to "get to the top" and that's it.

The packaging for the Kollector's Edition, however, was horrid. A poorly put together carboard box inside of one of those stupid clear plastic sleeves, then the game and Bonus DVD slipped inside of a carboard sleeve. Can't even tell which is game/DVD w/o sliding the DVDs out. Very cheap feeling overall.

So after beating both storylines I've gone in to start on the arcade side of the game. I decided I'd go for some of the fatility achievements. . .and I'm done. Horrible. Worse, in my opinion, than the SNES version. At least in that dumbed down version they changed the fatalities to work with the rating. In this game I've watched Baraka slice off someone's head only to see the slightest amount of blood and the person fall over like a board. Head attached. looked like a normal move honestly. His other fatality is no better.

Then moved to Jax, and his signature head crush. Wow, again hardly any blood. The head stays perfectly intact and they fall like a board again. As dissapointed as I already was with the fact they made some changes to keep the rating this is pathetic. I'd honestly rather not SEE fatalities in the game than this crap. They honestly just feel like a normal (not even GOOD) normal fighting move.

Of which I want another one. . .almost more than any other game at this point. I hear we're getting/got MvC2 in Xbox Live Arcade which is a nice start, but. . .unfortunately I'm guessing whe EA having Marvel's license now that we'll never see another NEW one of these.

I would also LOOOOOVE to see another Eternal Champions. Modeled after EC for Sega CD, not Genesis.

Amazon Gold box deal at 2PM PST hints at a "Johnny Cage vs Iron Man" deal. Well, clearly this hint was written by someone who has never played this, or forgot that Iron Man is a marvel character, but regardless, it may be as low as 30 or 40 bucks.

The CE of this sucks terribly. Not necessarily the "Kontent", but the packaging itself. I would almost trade this straight across for someone that has the standard version (minus the pull-out artwork) Behind the artwork is another print of the same picture.

The game and extra DVD are packaged in cardboard sleeves where you can't even tell which is the game and which is the DVD w/o pulling them out. Cheap as shit. The box itself is a cheap cardboard box stuck inside one of those plastic sleeves and. . .well, it's all just cheap as shit.

Yeah probably not worth $70.. I just recieved my GoW2 Limited edition in the mail. The packaging looks nice, plus the 5 extra redone maps are great. And the golden lancer for added e-peen. I usually get the collector's editions for random crap they include with it. (Like the bobblehead for Fallout 3).

The Collector's edition of MKvsDC Universe is selling on Amazon right now for $45. So even if you just wanted the basic game, it's a pretty good time to swing at the deal.
