I recently picked Street Fighter Anniversary Collection up for the Xbox - includes SF III: 3rd Strike & SF:2 Turbo - and it's been a blast. There are still guys that play on Xbox live, and I regularly get my ass handed to me. I went 1-30 to this one guy, it's brutal but I'm a scrub so I can't quite complain and I don't have an arcade stick (will likely order this one (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox360-Fighting-Stick-EX-Xbox-360/dp/B0018OCJ5Q/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1221113165&sr=8-1) sometime tomorrow.)
Though they are a bit older, here's a couple trailers that give the game a bit more justice than the one above:

Between the two I believe they introduce all the characters except for Akuma, who has been 'unlocked' in the Arcade version as a playable character. I currently play as Ken, but I can see myself using Abel a lot. Hopefully this gets a solid release date for consoles soon.

I hope the fighters are as balanced as they can be. I played against a guy in an arcade who was rolling through Marvel v Capcom II and got my ass handed to me because he had Guile and a set of moves that was basically unblock-able, unstoppable. I'm guessing the same set would work in the console version, but the greatest battle any fighting game faces is balancing.
High hopes.

Yeah, Marvel vs Capcom II has ridiculous combos. As for Street Fighter IV, so far all I've heard is that Rufus is sometimes considered kind of 'cheap' (or just really good/easy to use), and El Fuerte has an infinite loop that is hard to maintain but could be a problem.. but overall he's not that great of a character. At some point I've gotta head out to Chinatown in New York and get on their machine.
Here's some photos of an arcade stick for the 360/PS3 versions that's due out sometime in '09. http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=5536290&postcount=227 .
It's made by madcatz of all people, which has me a bit cautious- but apparently they'll be using the same parts as the Arcade version.. And I've just ordered the Hori Fighting EX2 stick, so I'll probably pass unless it's a reasonable price.
Edit: Now with photos and prices.

Straight from the GameStop Expo 2008 in Las Vegas, here are some shots of Mad Catz's official line of Street Fighter IV controllers. They come in three different flavors - the decorated gamepad version for $39.99 (meh), the definitely-a-console-accessory stick for $69.99 (hmmm), and the ripped-directly-from-the-cabinet premium arcade stick for $139.99 (tissue please). Shin-RoTeNdO from Shoryuken got to play on one of the premiums, and reports that it feels just like the arcade sticks, with "some other cool features" he wouldn't mention. Damn stick-tease.

I may be in the minority, but I love the artistic style of this game. I don't care if they are exaggerated and all have huge bulges(no homo).
Ocelot

I dig the art style too, I really like the watercolor effect they use for special moves and in the trailer.
Also Fei Long and Dan (http://www.capcom.co.jp/sf4/cs2.html) are going to make an appearance in the 360/PS3 versions of this game.
I really wish there was some local arcade nearby that had this... But from the looks of it, either you pay around $20,000 for the four machines needed (they're networked together so must be purchased together) or buy the Street Fighter IV board, gut an old arcade machine, and transform the new setup. Capcom USA is eventually planning on bringing the arcades stateside though.
Edit: Also the Capcom reports say that they expect to have it out for consoles before March 31st. Hopefully they'll stay true to that.

Not only is Rose now revealed to be in the game, but we have a confirmed release date of February 17th 2009, as well as the details for the North American collector's edition package.
Capcom has announced a Street Fighter IV Collector's Edition for both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in North America. They also came to their senses and updated the game's box art! After months of listening to Street Fighter fans everywhere, Capcom decided to drop the horrible box art (http://kotaku.com/5053902/street-fighter-iv-box-art-which-is-worse) shown earlier this fall for a much better one. You agree, yes? We knew of the CE a week ago (http://kotaku.com/5105273/and-now-the-north-american-street-fighter-iv-ce), but now we have pictures!
You can see the new artwork, details, and pricing after the jump!
http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/kotaku/2008/12/360.jpg
For $79.99, here's everything you get: 1. The game (duh)
2. A limited-edition (ie., not sold anywhere else) figurine – Ryu in the PS3 box, C. Viper hotness in the 360 flavor. Decisions, decisions...
3. Street Fighter IV: The Ties That Bind: a 65 minute anime movie — created by Studio 4C — that sets up the story of SFIV by explaining events post-SFII. BluRay disc in the PS3 box! The Xbox version is a 360 game disc that outputs the movie at 720P, not a DVD.
4. A mini-strategy guide from Prima, written by the same people doing the full-on guide and illustrated by Udon Comics
5. CD soundtrack. Rock SFIV stage chunez in your car!
6. …Plus some secret additional downloadable content that we’re not quite ready to reveal at this point. Look for more announcements soon!
I've had this on pre-order but it's too bad you don't get both figurines in the same box. I'm wondering which version will have the better online community.

Then kerjack comes along and beats Seth first try. However we were only on EASY. (we skipped past the pussy very easy and easiest settings)
I noticed some lag the first night I played it. I was playing ranked games and for a short while every match I played was lagging a bit. Not like I expected to get very high in the rankings anyhow I suppose.
I rented this today. I'll be playing it later.

A) I need an arcade stick NOW. Playing this with a pad is gay.
B) Abel can suck my fucking balls, at least until I figure out the proper timing for throw escapes.
C) I'm enjoying the fuck out of this thus far.
D) However, dunno, one problem I have is the one I had with the Alpha/Zero games, as well. EX attacks, Super attacks, Focus attacks... They fuck with the purity of the game, imho. Oh well.

but the fun factor is making up for some of that.

Further observations:
Zangief is ridiculously over-powered. His green spinning backhand is stupidly quick AND avoids every long range attack in the game, and at close range, the computer (even on Very Easy) or any capable human opponent will pile-drive you to death. For proof, try COM v COM matches: Zangief beats the shit out of everybody.
Throw escapes are basically worthless against the computer, because the only throws it will use are special moves, and there is no escaping them. Incredibly frustrating v Abel, Seth and indeed Zangief.
I still need an arcade stick (ordered one a few days ago), because with the joypad/analogue, the super/ultra combos are very unreliable - except Akuma's, which is why I've been only using him ever since he got unlocked.
I'm fairly certain that once you figure out the correct timing for stage 1 focus armour, you're pretty much unbeatable. Not sure whether that's a good thing or not.
If you don't have a long range attack, Seth (especially in his second form) is damn near impossible. Using Abel, I murdered everybody, but needed 8 continues to beat Seth - on EASY.
Challenge Mode is a good inclusion, since you finally get a way to learn the best combos for each character without too much trial and error. It's hard as fuck, but better than getting your arse kicked online.

Zangief is insanely powered, but beatable no doubt.
But with special throws, I play Abel (or try), and whenever I try to do my special, or EX throw (half circle back light punch+light kick) I am either light punched out of it, or thrown before I grab them.
IMO the only way to play this is with a stick. I have it for both systems actually, and I don't yet have a stick for the PS3. Whenever I play my PS3 buddies I tend to do much more poorly. That, and perhaps it's because I'm using wireless, but the servers on PSN seem to lag more consistently than the Live servers do.
The challenge mode is great, but frustrating at times. Especially with the timing moves. It's tough to tell when exactly you're to do the next move in the sequence, but it's part of the learning curve I suppose.
Bad habits are hard to break, but I feel that my Abel is getting closer to my Sagat every time I play a bit more. (Not that my Sagat is wonderful... I just need to master some of those high damage combos and practice more varied matchups.)
And speaking of the focus moves, I have to learn how to incorporate them into my routine more often. I don't use them nearly as much as I should- but it does add an interesting midgame element to the mix.

Speaking of Sagat, his Tiger Destruction is fucking ridiculous. I just took off about 65% of Sakura's energy with one hit...
Ocelot
03-16-2009, 04:37 PM
If you think Sagat's is insane, Zangief's is worse.
Right now I've been sparring with this decent dude I met via Xbox live playing HD Remix. He plays a pretty mean M.Bison.
I'm trying to get my Abel up to snuff, but compared to the general "ease" with which I win with Sagat- I still have a little ways to go.

Gouki/Akuma >>>>> Ryu.
Also, Seth is only tough when you're playing a close quarters character; I almost despaired before beating him with Abel, but easily kick his arse with Sakura. The thing that gets noobs is that the usual tactic of jumping in with a strong kick/sweep WILL get you killed by either Shoryuken or SPD.
Keep your distance, block a lot, and use ranged attacks.

I ended up taking him down by keeping my distance, leaping forward over his sonic booms, then back out of range of his yoga double punch, then forward with a medium jump kick as he's getting up, then pounding him with a shoryuken or a super hadouken combo... took a few tries but I managed to take him down
I'm amazed though at how much of a difference there is between the first and second rounds, I was able to drop him 3 times with no damage in the first round, then got my ass handed to me in the second
as a general rule, I suck ass at fighters but I have the patience of a saint so I keep trying relentlessly until I get lucky

Unlocking Gouken is a bloody pain in the arse, though, especially considering how (imo at least) Gouki/Akuma is far better, or at least far easier to use. However, you need to unlock him to get Seth (done by beating the game with all the characters).

Most of that time was spent trying to beat Seth with useless characters like Dhalsim, or close in fighters like Cammy, Abel and Fei Long. You can get Gouki/Akuma in half an hour or so.

It is really easy to pull off, but against a good player it's tough to connect.
My brother plays Akuma, and usually when he pulls that off, I have to be making a mistake.
When I play Abel, he can catch me with it if a do a marselleis roll or if I am about to land and don't have time to jump. It's unblockable, but even if you stand right in front of him, the combo will cause Akuma to hit you with a light punch first, and he'll actually push your character a little bit before grabbing on and all you have to do is jump.
What I found was a pretty easy way of catching someone with it is to jump first, and do the inputs in the air except for the last fierce kick which you have to input the instant akuma hits the ground. Also if someone lands right in front of you, they have no way to escape. The simplest move will stuff it though, even mashing the light punch.
