View Full Version : Are you superstitious?

We've done it before, and we're doing it again assholes!

I don't know why people are superstitious. I just don't get it. I need logic. I need results.

i have a few. spilled salt being one of the main ones, it just glares at me, so i always throw a pinch over my shoulder. i recently found out that i've been throwing the salt over the wrong shoulder, it hasn't affected my luck yet, so fuck it. i also hate people sweeping anywhere near my feet, and if i say something that i think might jinx me then i have to knock on wood. it just keeps my universe in harmony.

If I see a magpie alone, I'll salute it - something my Grandmother told me to do.

Apart from that, not much. I've broken a mirror and weeks later I've got biblical with an attractive woman so that myth has been busted - unless she had broken one too and that was her bad luck.

i like this one mentioned in drugstore cowboy.

Bob (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000369/): Hats. Okay? Hats. If I ever see a hat on a bed in this house, man, like you'll never see me again. I'm gone.
Diane (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001488/): That makes two of us.
Nadine (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001287/): Why a hat?
Bob (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000369/): Because that's just the way it is, sweetie.

When you believe in things that you don't understand, then you suffer.
Superstition ain't the way.

Not sure if it qualifies as a superstition..I have a Saint Sebastian, patron saint of athletes, prayer card that was given to me by my grandmother seven years ago. I put it in my kit bag before a game.

I only quote a certain part of the prayer to myself the night before a game.."Your body proved atheletically strong. May athletes be as strong as their faith etc.."

Otherwise I'm not that superstitious.

Archangel

I never got why St Sebastian got to be the patron saint of athletes. I mean, anything related to shooting, sure, but track and field or football? No idea why.

I could be wrong but I believe many saints have been modified over the centuries to suit the needs of today's beliefs or situations. Kind of like Saint Nicholas evolving to santa claus.. I could check out what other saints could apply. Maybe the fact that Saint Sebastian survived being impaled by arrows and then being completely healed by another saint. So that would attribute to "physical endurance".

When I got my licenece my grandpa gave me a little folded car with this and a short prayer in it.

Saint Christopher, the Patron Saint of Travel. While I am not religious, I like having it in my car. It is in my visor.

my car related superstition consists of taunting fate by bringing up the fact i've never made contact w/ anything on the track. others have 'contacted' me, but that's not the same. i have yet to run out of skill. or luck.

when i play craps, before i shoot i always line up the dice w/ hard six facing up, in a v formation.

i wear a jade charm on my neck.

other than that, i walk under ladders and not concern myself w/ much else.

Just a little. Part of me feels like there's a logical explanation behind everything and another part is like I don't give a fuck. Then there's that little part that says there's some things we'll never know... booga booga.
