This is Cotton, my bestest doggie in the world. He's so sweet and smart, and a really, really good boy. He started having seizures 3 yrs ago, and he'd have a seizure about every 13 mos. This year, he's started having them about every 3 mos. The past two have been cluster seizures, and he had one last night that scared the hell out of us. They are so hard to watch: he starts out by acting like he sees something out of his reach, and will wedge himself under the bed or couch, or in a corner, trying to get it. Then the seizure will start, and even though he has absolutely no motor control, by sheer willpower alone he will climb into my lap and hold on. He has a tendency to throw his forelegs up and over his head, so I try to keep him from dislocating his shoulders. This will last for about 7 minutes, then he regains control and comes to a little bit, but he is really disoriented for a while. He used to get back to normal after this, but lately he has been going into another seizure. last night he came out of his first seizure, then climbed back into my lap with his forepaws around my neck in a death grip. We had to pry him off me (tearing two huge holes in my leg) and then the second seizure hit even worse than the first and it took him forever to recover.

Even though his seizures aren't too frequent, cluster seizures are dangerous because I guess sometimes they don't stop. We were hoping that we wouldn't have to start medicating him because the drugs are pretty heavy and do a bit of damage to his liver, but I think we might have to. This really sucks, and we are so bummed out.

I guess epilepsy is common in herding dogs, and onsets between 1-3 years. We found out later that the from the farm where we got our border collie, other people have ended up with pups from the same parents with even worse epilepsy than Cotton. He's such a good boy, well-mannered and polite. It's sad that this happens to him.

Me and a buddy took our 6' dinghy's down the river yesterday. We decided to surf a wave that the company we work for used to surf (under different owners at that time). He kind of missed it but I hit it straight on and flipped. It wasn't so bad the first time, I was only sucked under for about 4 seconds.
I was trying to oar my way across from where I surfaced (it's a big recirculating pool) and got stuck in a wave train and couldn't make it across. I tried it again and only made it half way across. I surfed for a bit and eventually flipped. It turns out there's a whirlpool where I flipped and I was sucked under over and over again for about 30-40 seconds, which it a pretty long time for unwillingly being under water and not knowing you were going to be there. It sucked me down to the bottom once where I tried to kick off but it didn't work. There was also a rock undercut there so I was actually under the surface under the rocks. I couldn't swim as it was whitewater so all I could do was wait. It felt like it was playing with me, letting me go near the surface, sucking me back down, and throwing me against the rocks. Eventually as I was getting frustrated I curled into a ball (like you're su-fucking-pposed to) and after another 4-5 seconds it spit me out. I hit the surface and still had another 3 waves before I could catch a breath.
I've jumped in whirlpools before for guide training and this was this scariest experience I've ever had. I was 95% sure I would die.
I felt really bad for my buddy who would have seen my limp body floating by.
Today I'm happy as shit to be alive but a little choked I put a hole in my dinghy.

What kind of dog do you have? Our vet says epilepsy usually shows up in male dogs around 2 yrs old. They might never have another seizure, or it might start becoming more frequent as they age, like our dog.

Anyway, I'm so frigging clever. People with epilepsy swear that their dogs can sense when they are about to have a seizure, and they give them some kind of signal. Well, we're thinking that maybe we could get a second dog and see if it can tell when Cotton is getting ready to seize. If we know a seizure is coming, we can give him a dose of lorizipam and stop it. Then we won't have to put him on the heavy shit.

Ok no one laugh at me but I need to just get a few things off my chest, even if you are all strangers and douches.

My girlfriend left for college on Saturday, and we said we'd try to make things work out. Yes, she's a good Christian but we did have sex before she left. It was her first, but not mine. But since then, I've just been so bummed she's gone. We texted each other for a bit today, but nothing significant. And I feel like doing nothing tonight. I hung out with some friends last night and drank, but one of my friends told me I was looking pretty depressed after a few drinks last night. And all today, I've just felt like shit and got no appetite whatsoever.

Her mom gave me a cd the night before she left and I popped it in today, and it was a slide show of a bunch of pictures we took together and our favorite songs were on the back tune, everything from our first football game together to prom. And I choked up pretty bad from it, and I'm not a guy who cries a lot. Like, at all. And I couldn't eat dinner tonight, so since I was home alone I put in Ratatouille because that's about food and figured it'd get my mind off things since I like the movie. But I choked up again because that was the first movie we saw together and I got her the movie as part of her Christmas gift.

We've gone on vacation for longer periods of time, but there's never been the feeling of I'm not going to see her until Thanksgiving at the soonest.

I've been dumped before, I've cheated on a girl that I really liked at the time, but I've never, ever felt even remotely this bad about anything before. And it's even worse because I know there's nothing I can do to help the situation, and life goes on.

actually that's a negative. I'm always on the go. I don't really play games as much as it would seem. I didn't even own a playstation 1 or two b/c i was like on tons of sports teams and always taking pictures for the newspaper and yearbook. Most of my side work has me outdoors. I do video for HS sports teams and do the edits to make team films. What happened is since I mostly work in a government climate controlled building and then go spend hours in the sun my skin when into "shock" (the doc's words not mine) and I started sheeding like a freaking sheepdog. It became a concer b/c I was pealing in places that weren't exposed to the sun.

i need advice, i was going to post on OT but i think i might get shit for bringing up a subject as such..

When I came to where I am now, I opened up an account with Wachovia and put $100 in my new savings and another $100 checking, just so I'd have something in there. The savings was more or less an overdraft protection, and since I was getting a crap interest rate I never bothered putting more in there; I just kept my earnings in checking.

So, about a month passes and I notice in my online banking statement that my savings balance has gone from $100 to $95. I forgot to follow up on it, then the next month I go back again and my balance is now $90. I then decided it was time to worry and called Wachovia. Turns out my savings account has a $300 minimum balance and for every month I don't maintain said balance I'm charged a penalty of $5. I told the operator I spoke to that this wasn't specified to me when I initiated the account (and you'd think the manager I set the account up through in the first place would've let me know seeing as how I only deposited $100 initially), so she refunded one of the penalties and now I keep exactly $300 in that account at all times, although I think I'm up to $300.09 thanks to interest payments I've received.

Seriously. Credit Unions are the way to go. They have the best interest rates. The overdraft fee is like $5 or some shit and they are the only banks that seem to care about individual members. All of the other banks I have been with treat customers like they are wasting their time and have absolutely no emphasis on customer satisfaction. I was with Wachovia, Bank of America, and BB&T before joining the credit union. They all sucked massive ammounts of schlong. BB&T was the worst though. They did some really sneaky type shit.
