two strictly drum and keyboard bands. both male/female. matt & kim are more raw for sure. mates of state is more talented, vocally, for sure. for me it's an easy choice, but i have many indie loving friends that will argue this till the cows come home.

I haven't heard the Mates of State record. I think Matt & Kim are catchy, but not really all that talented.

Havin a hell of a time listening to Matt & Kim. They're just so bad. It's not even catchy. Maybe with time, but the production value sounds of such crap that I don't think I'll bother.
Also, not gonna lie, if these two are at the forefront of Indie, then I don't have high hopes for indie music in the near future. But maybe they aren't.

Matt and Kim for sure. They may not have as much substance as MoS, but they make up for it in catchiness and just how much fun their first two records are.
Oh and Seve vs Evan should be added to the poll.

I saw Mates of State open for Beulah in Atlanta in 2001. They were enjoyable I suppose. The two-member bands aren't really my cup of tea.
