Bought the entire series (which ended last year in March) on Amazon a couple months back. Just finished watching it. I thought it was one of the best shows I've ever watched. Really gritty and well done. Anyone catch this show while it was still running?

Yeah, it is definitely one of the best shows HBO has ever produced.

Amazing show.
Was Michael molesting his little brother? Thats the one question I was unsure of when I finished watching this. I remember when Dookie first moved in with them and he walked by a bedroom where him and his little brother were lieing in bed together and it just looked weird, the way it was shot, the look on Dookies face, everything just didn't seem right. But then they never went back to that and I figured I was looking into it too much.

I think it was meant to show how michael was the "parent" figure. And how Michael was taking care of Dookie and the younger brother now.

yeah Michael wasnt molesting his brother. he got his stepfather killed because his stepfather molested him and he wanted to protect his brother from the same fate.
great show, one of the best ever. for me i'd rate the seasons in the following order best to "worst (in the loosest sense possible)" - 3, 4, 1, 5, 2

I thought they were doing something similar to how abused kids often repeat their parents ways later in their lives, but from the way the direction they took with Michael it didn't seem like anything like that was actually happening.
I liked all the seasons quite a bit, I don't remember feeling underwhelmed by any of them.
Favorite character is a toss up between Bubbles and Omar, but there are so many great ones.

Probably the best acting and writing of any show I've seen. So many great characters and story lines.
I'm pretty positive Michael wasn't abusing his brother. There was no mention of anything like that happening, and this isn't the type of show that would present a question for no reason just to do it (like Lost does so often.)

Season five was pretty weak. The newsroom characters didn't have the same depth that we got with the other new guys introduced throughout the series. (Though I do like Clark Johnson from Homicide) The whole serial killer story arc seemed very forced and not really in line with what those characters would do. Otherwise, the series was indeed one of the greatest in tv history. I'd rank the season as 1, 3, 4, 2.... 5.

Season 5 was my least favorite as well. I agree with you in regards to your opinion on the serial killer arch. For me, the seasons (best to least best) are as follows: 2, 4, 1, 3, 5.
I loved season two because it illustrated the plight of the American blue collar workers and the inevitable move away from manual labor to technology. And I liked the character of "The Greek".
My favorite character throughout the series was probably Snoop. That chick was hardcore, lol. And apparently a facsimile of her real life identity at one point.

She was so unique. Obviously bizarre but unique nonetheless. I liked the whole Stanfield crew to be honest. Marlo was hardcore. I love the ending of the series when he walks up to the dealers on the corner and muscles them out.

This is by far the best show ever from beginning to end. I don't have a favorite song, favorite food, or favorite much of anything, but this is by far my favorite show. They gradually painted a brilliant picture of the turn of the century drug war in Baltimore and they were able to do it by gradually introducing new characters and themes throughout the series. I think they did this so that our small brains could actually comprehend the entire painting without focusing too hard on one point like most shows. It's a big story to tell with tons of extraneous variables and they did a great job of covering the entire spectrum. I really loved all the seasons equally and actually yelled out "NOOOOO!" at the TV when Bodie was killed. This show will be remembered not for it's entertainment value, but for it's realistic look at the futility of fighting the drug war and it's cost on society.
The Creators of this show also did Generation Kill, which is also brilliant.

The Wire was an outstanding fucking show. There were certainly some weak seasons, but overall, without a doubt one of my favorite shows of all time.
I can't recall any other show which so accurately depicted an issue from so many different perspectives.

When Omar got shot by the little kid, I was pissed. I understand the message behind it, but it was nonetheless upsetting to see Omar go out like that. Stringer Bell was a douche. He was cool in season one but got real sketchy after that. I always liked Avon so when Stringer started undermining him, I immediately began disliking him.

I respected the soldier aspect of Avon's character. He was old-school. Stringer Bell was all business and devious as all hell. Spent too much time going behind Avon's back and undermining his command. Plus, he had D'Angelo killed.

I liked Stringer. Avon was too bent on power whereas Stringer realized he had enough for a sweet life and almost got it. D'angelo was a good character and I wasn't a big fan of the way they took him out. WHERES WALLACE!

They were both equally ambitious. The difference being that Avon didn't care about business and only sought to gain territory and stay at war with his rivals. Stringer was constantly trying to increase his profits (as evidenced by his meeting with Marlo). Stringer wanted to get off of the streets.

If Rappers were Characters from the Wire (http://smokingsection.uproxx.com/TSS/2009/02/if-rappers-were-characters-from-the-wire)
Pretty good list and explanations for the most part with some obvious exceptions. 50 Cent as Marlo? No.

Funny stuff. LL Cool J as Cutty is pretty much spot on.
