I was loosing my faith in a moderate ratio of good to bad movies in this decade from Depp.

I'm sorry Flava Flav isn't in more movies.

I wanted to see the movie before I saw the trailer; the digital video makes me feel like I'm at a Smithsonian exhibit. I keep expecting Marion Cotillard to turn to the camera, then start telling me how about the firing rate and recoil problems of a Thompson machine gun.

I think Michael Mann is one of the best directors ever, but the digital cam shit is for the fucking birds. Not interested.

Just saw the opening midnight showing. They spent all the money on Johnny Depp and Christian Bale and could only hire a cameraman with parkinsons disease. The writing also suffered as there were so many damn camera shots where you were supposed to know what they were thinking that the film dragged on and on. The movie didnt even capture or portray Americas love of John Dillinger getting the man at the right level. The damn thing should have been PG as there was no naked gangster chicks, no cursing, and comparitively little violence. Johnny and Christian didnt even so much as take off their shirts for you girls either.
(and yes I know the director shoots his movies like that)
I wrote a review. It's long. Here's all you need to know:
Despite its meticulous attention to period detail, “Public Enemies” recycles highlights from Mann’s resume. The director frequently has mined this subject matter for fresh perspective, pitting flawed lawmen against alluring criminals in “Heat,” “Manhunter” and, to a lesser extent, “Miami Vice.” Mann continues to experiment with digital photography, a technique that serves his sun-drenched daytime scenes better than the murky night shots. More reverent than riveting, “Public Enemies” can catch your eye with its powerful imagery. But the moment I noticed it started to feel long, we still had 30 minutes to go.

Yes, what this film really needed was Brett Ratner at the helm.

Well, that could be said for every movie.
I saw it tonight. So much promise, but it ended up being long and pointless.
Spoiler: John Dillinger is a bad ass. He does lots of bad ass stuff, like rob banks. thats really all there is to the movie. Beyond the three main characters I couldn't recognise anyone from scene to scene, other than one of Christian Bales men whose head was potato shaped. Laughing at his close ups in the second half was the most entertaining part for me.
Not terrible, but I wish I had my 10 spot and 2 hours back.

Those aren't real spoilers, though. I just said "spoiler" for effect. You can read that paragraph if you want.
I liked it, but it was essentially just Heat in the 30's

Gary likes going into movies knowing literally not a single thing about the plot. He can't watch TV, listen to the radio, or drive along a highway. The media could ruin his next movie going experience.

Really disappointed in the movie. Way too dark, way too shaky of a camera, but most of all they did a really shitty job with the script.
I didn't really appreciate how they started killing off characters to make Dillinger's last days seem more desperate. Baby Face Nelson outlived Dillinger by a few months. This is history, you can't just re-write it to make fit your movie better. Red actually was never confirmed to have been killed, and Homer outlived Dillinger as well. What a load of shit.
