Pretty straight forward. The clubs which have been dominating the sport since before any of us were born (well, except Morfin and fuld maybe): National titles, league cups, Champions League/Copa Libertadores wins, you name it.
But who reigns supreme?
Oh yeah, Nottingham Forest was omitted: They may have kicked arse decades ago, but where are they now? Some consistency is desirable...

Probably Man Utd.
It's not that i like them. It's just they have the history, the history of winning and some great footballers played/are playing for the club.

I'm biased, but I've got to go with Juve here. 27 scudetti, playing in the same league as Milan, Inter, Lazio, Fiorentina and Roma? Plus not too shabby showings in the Champions League, and an all time roster that can stand up to any in the world...

They've had their sucess, yes. But due to the recent relegation from Serie A, and the reasons for it, they will not get my vote.

Plus, the classiest guy in that league (not saying much), maybe all of football. The ONE reason I don't begrudge Italy their 2006 World Cup title - God knows Pinturicchio deserved it.

I hate most of that team, the exceptions being Ale, Buffon and Cannavaro.
But for a player of Del Piero's stature to follow his team into relegation... Unassuming, humble (well, relatively), never a scandal, no coke and whores, while being one of the biggest names in football for, what, 15 years; nah, that guy is something else.

Really?
Juve have quite the horrendous streak in CL. Seriously, I don't know what their problem is with this competition, but they can't seem to finish the job properly (then again, we might as well scream: OY, Barca, what the fuck have ya been doing all these years, ya pathetic beautifull players?).
Only for the CL, Real is the king, followed by Liverpool and Milan, but Bayern and Ajax straight trebble (6 years in the row, interceded by World cup/Euro confrontations with some of the best generation of players never seen) made for some of the best football ever played.
As for the fact that you didn't even mentionned Saint Etienne...well, let just say that the only team in the world to play with a pure green plain shirt SHOULD be on this poll, and I'm a Marseille fan.
PS: Juve, seriously? Don't get me wrong, I love me some Platini or Zidane, they're probably 2 of the best football player ever, but the first won his only CL with Juve by scoring a winning fucking penalty (and only goal) in what might be the most shamefull finale in the history of the sport while the other lost 2 (or was it 3) finales in the row (including one against Borussia Fooking Dortmund) before moving to Real and winning it by scoring what might be the most exquisite bloody volley EVER.

Hence, "not too shabby" and not "brilliant"; they're like Germany in the World Cup - keep getting into the Finals, just to lose most of the time.
And NEVER remind me of the '97 Finals. I still get pissed off when I think about Lars Ricken scoring a couple of seconds after being subbed in... It's even worse because Kalle Riedle was one of my fave players ever at Werder. Also, Zizou's volley against Leverkusen was sweet, but I have to give the edge to van Basten's in the '88 Euro Finals.

That's definetly could be a nice poll. Add djorkaeff's volley against Roma in 97 and some other (that I can't think off right now but will) and we might have a poll that even the baseball guys would find smashing.

Voted ManU, but really it's hard to pick the top team. Football changes constantly, wealth going from country to country, picking an all time best team is almost impossible. On pure consistency, United are going to have a shout at being the best. But, Arch's argument for Juve makes sense too, but their success in recent years has been lacking where as United has been excellent.
Best team by decade would be a better poll probably.

I always tell Madrid fans that I choose to ignore the 1st 5 years of the European cup. Becuase it was a mediocre compeition no one gave a shit about (trust me its works a charm for starting an argument, and really getting them pissed off). Picking decades to discard as well for their 31 league titles is always fun.
Regardless of my vote AC Milan have the most impressive record. And don't have a vote yet. While massive under achievers like Manchester are running away with this thing.
Nothing against Juve. But aren't they the team that has lost more European cup finals than any other?

I don't know how many cups Real have.
But they have 31 leagues and 9 cls.
I know there are a couple of uefas (maybe more in there also)
If we're gonna combine everything, no one really matches their record.

Manchester United (and I'm not a supporter of them) are not where they are now without some decent pedigree, over 330m worldwide supporters, 17 top flight championships - in what is now the world's best league, 27 domestic cups, 5 European championships has led to their current position.

Yeah, but how many of those cups and titles were won when the Premiership was the world's best league, which is a rather recent development?
And as for the 330 million supporters, I'm pretty sure that that was started with silly Japanese teen-aged girls who don't know what offsides means soiling their knickers over David Beckham.

Because 90% of Americans who've ever heard of football only know the Premiership. They probably think all those other clubs are only there so they have somebody to play in UEFA and CL.
Come on, these people call their national league winners "World Champions"; do you honestly believe that they could grasp the concept of multiple national leagues?

I was a little worried, but a good performance at the weekend has eased my nerves a little. And we do have an away goal.
