On February 5, 2009, Kiffin falsely accused Urban Meyer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urban_Meyer) the head coach of the Florida Gators (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_Gators_football) of violating NCAA recruiting rules at Tennessee Booster breakfast at the Knoxville Convention Center. [21] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lane_Kiffin#cite_note-Kiffin-Meyer-20)
"I'm going to turn Florida in right here in front of you," Kiffin told the crowd. "As Nu'Keese was here on campus, his phone keeps ringing. And so one of our coaches is sitting in the meeting with him and says, 'Who is that?' And he looks at the phone and says, 'Urban Meyer.'
"Just so you know, you can't call a recruit on another campus. But I love the fact that Urban had to cheat and still didn't get him."[21] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lane_Kiffin#cite_note-Kiffin-Meyer-20)
While Kiffin was accusing Meyer of violating NCAA rules, he was actually violating Southeastern Conference rules himself and his accusations of Meyer's conduct being against NCAA rules was incorrect.[21] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lane_Kiffin#cite_note-Kiffin-Meyer-20) For his violation of conference rules and lack of knowledge of NCAA rules, Southeastern Conference commissioner Mike Slive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Slive) issued a public reprimand to Kiffin.[22] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lane_Kiffin#cite_note-21) In addition to the public reprimand by Slive, Florida Athletic Director Jeremy Foley (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Foley) issued a statement demanding an public apology from Kiffin for his false statements.[23] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lane_Kiffin#cite_note-22)

Kiffin issued a public apology a day after the remarks. In a statement released by the University of Tennessee, Kiffin said, "In my enthusiasm for our recruiting class, I made some statements that were meant solely to excite those at the breakfast. If I offended anyone at the University of Florida, including Mr. Foley and Urban Meyer, I sincerely apologize. That was not my intention."[24] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lane_Kiffin#cite_note-23)

On February 5th, Kiffin said he ordered high school recruit Nu'Keese Richardson to fax his signing papers from somewhere other than Pahokee High, because: "...somebody at the school was going to screw it up, the fax machine wouldn't work or they would have changed the signatures. All the things that go on in Pahokee now." [25] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lane_Kiffin#cite_note-24) According to Pahokee Head Coach Blaze Thompson, Kiffin promised a public apology for these and other remarks [26] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lane_Kiffin#cite_note-25) and has not delivered.

On February 13th, 2009 on a Knoxville radio show, Kiffin referred to Bryce Brown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bryce_Brown), a coveted high school recruit, as a "great player," which the university plans to self-report as a secondary recruiting violation. [27] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lane_Kiffin#cite_note-26)
In late February 2009, Kiffin was accused of denigrating the Georgia Bulldogs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_Bulldogs) recruiting efforts in the state of Georgia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_%28U.S._state%29) on a talk radio show with the Rivals network. The University of Georgia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Georgia) Athletic Director Damon Evans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damon_Evans) responded that the program does not need to cheat to have success. However, no recorded or written record has been produced to support the existence of such comments from Kiffin.[28] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lane_Kiffin#cite_note-27)[29] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lane_Kiffin#cite_note-28)

In March 2009, it was revealed that Kiffin had another recruiting incident involving Alshon Jeffrey who is one of the top recruits from South Carolina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Carolina). According to ESPN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESPN)'s Chris Low (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Chris_Low&action=edit&redlink=1) “Kiffin told Jeffrey that if he chose the Gamecocks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Carolina_Gamecocks), he would end up pumping gas for the rest of his life like all the other players from that state who had gone to South Carolina.”[30] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lane_Kiffin#cite_note-29)[31] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lane_Kiffin#cite_note-30) Kiffin denies ever making that statement.[32] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lane_Kiffin#cite_note-31)
Al (and those who looked at the situation objectively) was laid into heavily for letting this guy go. Does GMF still think he was a scapegoat?

Looks like Al may have been right. Kiffin has been a headcase in his short term at UTK, and I couldn't be happier.

Al simply lucked into firing Kiffin. I won't give him any credit for it, and he does not deserve any. Plus the way he went about it, and the pay dispute is simply pathetic.

But overall, the Raiders are probably better off without him.

Lane is an idiot--with a hot wife. He will have a target on his back this fall just for all the things he has said since coming to Tennessee.

Al Davis was just as smart to fire him as he was stupid for hiring him in the firstplace

I agree with soup nazi, the raiders are better off, but not for the reasons Al wanted him gone.

I guess this kinda vindicates Al's comments about Lane having no integrity.
