To be fair, I thought Wall-E looked retarded in the previews, but I loved it.

I thought Wall-E looked great in the previews but didn't care for the movie as a whole. The humans ruined it for me, I would have preferred Wall-E and Eve stayed on Earth and developed a story there.

Good thing you don't write the stories.

And I still haven't watched Cars. I've only heard good things but... Larry the Cable guy? I dunno, he urks me bad enough that I'd kind of like to avoid supporting any of his movies.

Apparently, the trailer of this movie features a new character for Toy Story 3. Here's the link: http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2009/05/13/exclusive-pixar-unveils-new-toy-story-3-character-in-up-can-you-find-it/

Saw it. While good, it's nowhere near Pixar's best. Little things nagged me throughout. Not as funny or as exciting as past Pixar films. The opening 5-minute sequence is fantastic, but the film never reaches that emotional level after. Good, not great.

Interesting review. I read a negative review about the movie from the WSJ. I didn't want to believe it, but I guess I'm going to have to lower my expectations for this movie. So far, my least favorite Pixar movie is Cars.

I thought this (http://www.filmcritic.com/misc/emporium.nsf/reviews/Up).

And for those who've seen it, I'd like to know if you think the brief doctor's office scene - which is part of the Carl-Ellie montage - is too serious for a movie that you know will play to kids?

I saw it, and I loved it.

How Pixar makes their scenes so emotional without using any words is beyond me. But Bravo to them.

the incredibles was one of the best animated movies ever, if not the bestest!

TMJ
05-30-2009, 07:54 AM
The Incredibles might be Pixar's lamest. Such a blatant Fantastic Four/X-Men ripoff. So Trendy can suck his mother's 2-inch cock (that damn tranny and her still visible balls)

If we're going to play this, let's play.
1. Toy Story 2 (better story, great new characters, way more humor than the original)
2. WALL-E (genius)
3. Toy Story (the original, a classic)
4. Finding Nemo (more heart than expected, and a technical masterpiece)
5. A Bug's Life (so underrated, but the precision in the animation blows me away)
6. Up (good story, but plot holes all over the damn place)
7. Monsters, Inc. (the door sequence towards the end saves it from obscurity)
8. Ratatouille (a cooking rat? fine. manipulating Linguini like a puppet? stupid)
9. The Incredibles (too similar to thousands of superhero origin stories)
10. Cars (Doc Hollywood with cars. Yay.)

NOTKyle

I would put Monsters Inc in my top 5 for the storyline alone.

Liked UP a lot. First half emotional, second half hilarious with the payoffs to the various set ups. See it as a date movie, no need to have kids for an excuse.

Tough exercise to rate Pixar's best. They are all great, except for Cars, which sucks.

TMJ

Put CARS alongside any damn SHREK film or a DIsney animated feature from the 1990s (Treasure Planet? Atlantis?!), and suddenly it looks fucking amazing.

Whats wrong with Sherk, well at least the first two.

Agree, but the second and third Shrek films blow. The first was alright. Disney films like Treasure Planet and Atlantis are a low point.

Cars didn't reach the Pixar standard in my opinion, and just wasn't more than an average film.

What they did in Cars, however, was start using the older actors (Paul Newman.) I really like this trend which certainly kept going in Up.

I saw this yesterday. I gotta say it was good, but it didn't meet my expectations. Walle and Finding Nemo are by far my favorite Pixar movies. I was little disappointed with the 3D version of this movie. I thought it would be more exciting. Heck, I think the trailer for G-force was even better in 3D than this movie was. Overall, it was lovely. The short movie was mediocre as well. I give this movie a 3 1/2 out of a 5.

Saw Up in 3-d this weekend. Very ho-hum. I think I have now become tired of the 3-D experience. Its great when a production produces a 3-d movie. Otherwise, just let it be.

And for those who've seen it, I'd like to know if you think the brief doctor's office scene - which is part of the Carl-Ellie montage - is too serious for a movie that you know will play to kids?

I thought it was. I was sitting in front of 2 little girls, and they asked really loudly "Mommy, why is she sad?" I don't remember what the mother said. But I thought it was a bit too serious. I went with a 8 yr old and an 11 yr old. I'm not sure if they understood either, but probably knew more than a 4 yr would have.

I loved the montage in the beginning, it was so sweet and of course, I cried.

I agree with you, there were pot holes everywhere. The animation was what I had expected from Pixar - But nothing stellar. I'm glad I saw it, I don't know if I would've spent the money to see it in theatres though.

For a Pixar movie, I expected more of a story than what I saw. It just seemed to lack a solid plot. I don't know, definitely not my favourite Pixar. But not the worst either.

3/5

I saw UP the other night with my girlfriend and her 8 year old niece. The little girl didn't really understand what was going on but thought the dogs were funny. This Pixar movie was not really for children, but rather more for the adults. The fact that people in the theater were crying at the start of the movie speaks volumes to the artistic talent, and general story telling abilities of the geniuses at pixar. How many other animated movies bring people to tears?

Saw it a couple of days ago with a few of my buddies on a fluke (Terminator was sold out...), and we all enjoyed it, despite however gay you think 5 19 year old guys watching this is.

First off, Partially Cloudy was brutally uplifting. The cackles of my heart were warmed.

I think Up was great, to be honest. I actually really liked the 3d, especially the part where a plane explodes and the propeller comes right at you. That actually made me jump a wee bit. The first 5 minutes were emotionally treacherous, as everyone sat there tearing up, with some people openly weeping. I liked how the rest of the movie brought you back up from that sadness with moments of overwhelming satisfaction. I thought the humour was great as well.

I didn't think the doctor part was that bad. I remember me and my friend talking about it when it happened and we agreed that since so much is left up to the imagination the kids can do whatever they want with it. Maybe she's crying because the doctor rubbed dirt in her eyes? Maybe she smelled a particularly strong onion? If the children ask the parents and the parents want to tell them, they will. If not, so be it, not understanding that piece only detracts an iota of backstory

With regards to your spoiler I completely agree, it was extremely elegant it how it was presented. The 3d in general was a lot of fun, it was not that blatant in your face 3d with like, things flying at your face or whatever. But rather it made the movie feel that much more delicious to the eyes. I wish Wall-E had been in 3d.

The 3-D has come such a long way. Up was great in it as was Monsters vs. Aliens, but the Disney 3-D seems to be superior. I can't wait for Toy Story 3 in it.
