I watched the entire show while it was still on the air (last episode aired in 2005). I just recently bought the complete series on Amazon when I saw it was on sale for a hundred bucks. I'm rewatching the whole show now because my girlfriend hadn't seen it. Anyone else watch this when it was on? I think it's the best dramatic series in television history. It touched on a lot of sensitive concepts that really hadn't been explored prior to the show. Notably the psychology surrounding death and the way in which it effects us emotionally.

Do it, I'll post. I read the rules and regs for this section specifically looking for a stipulation regarding shows which have stopped airing and didn't find one, so here we are. It's relevant to me now. If it's not relevant to anyone else, then I'm sure this will quickly fall into obscurity.

Mongo, you're being bitchy lately. An established member could start a poll saying Fart or Don't Fart and you wouldn't say shit. At least this has some substance to it. I didn't watch the show. If it fails,it fails. Let it fail. BeeRand started a "The Wire" thread after the fact and it sparked a bunch of discussion. I <3 you, but quit being a dick

I watched the show and for a while I liked it. Then it started to get shitty. Then it went off air. Then they recently made a straight to DVD movie. For a while when it first came out, I really liked the show.

Are you sure you're thinking of the same show? I don't recall a straight-to-DVD movie.

You made a thread and didn't know about the movie? You could've at least pretended it had relevance to Mongo if you knew.

I actually liked Dead Like Me also. But that's a different, less good, show.

Why are there all these shows on about dead people? Just speaking as a member of the alive community, I sometimes feel the living are under-represented in traditional, mainstream media.

Well in Six Feet Under, the characters are alive. The show centers around a family that runs a funeral home. So there are dead people but the show doesn't revolve around them. Each show begins with someone dying and that person's death/life represents the theme for that particular episode. Often, the themes are quite uplifting. It's not as morbid as you'd inevitably expect from a show entitled "Six Feet Under".

When I get a new HD I'll be downloading the entire series, until then I'm going to have no fucking idea what it's even about.

Oh man I was so high last night. Confusing Dead Like Me for Six Feet Under. Both HBO shows I watched around the same time. I enjoyed both, but stopped watching both randomly. They just didn't bring the entertainment anymore.

Well, that's a relief. Not to sound prejudiced, but as a person of living, I find it difficult to connect with the undead, what with their pottery sessions and warnings about christmas.

Absolutely. I loved the direction they took with it as far as jumping down each characters life story.

Really? Hmm.. I loved the Show but I stoped just before last Season because it was each time less about the dead people and philosophical message and more about how crazy each charachter was turning into. I may also need to give it another shot then.

I don't feel that way. But like I said before, I don't think the show was ever about dead people. And I wouldn't even go so far as to say that the opening death (and it's relevance throughout the episode), was ever anything but a backdrop for that show's particular storyline. As the series progressed, I think the themes became more existential and delved more deeply into Nate's search for "the meaning of life". As the series progressed, I also think that the introductory death sequences offered themes/messages which were even more relevant to the characters themselves.

Yeah, you are right. but I got annoyed as I did feel the story was turning into a soap opera, where a lot of the charachters going mental. I may really have missjudge the real meaning behind it.

i just went on youtube and watched the last 10 mins of the final episode again. just as good and moving as i remember.

don't do it unless you have already seen it. other wise some things will be ruined and others won't make sense. and you lose a lot.

Lol, I wouldn't say that the characters went "mental". I think Nate becomes progressively more preoccupied with the burdens he feels he's been anchored with. You see this in his relationships with his family as well as his spouses. As a result, he becomes at times despondent and often times neurotic. David, on the other hand, was legitimately off-the-deep-end for awhile when he was suffering from PTSD.

Haha, I would say eccentric. But yes, she was no more eccentric in the last season than the first. The same goes for Claire in regards to her own neurosis.

This is the version I bought on sale. Came with a bunch of extras including a double disc soundtrack for the entire show. I forgot how good the music was. It really highlighted some of the most emotional moments of the series. For example, the bonfire set to Radiohead's "Lucky" or the final montage and Sia's "Breathe Me".

Nate and David are ok, but specially Brenda went almost crazy and way too weird and psychotic, I mean , going in all possible directions. OK, this things happens in life too, but it was just too many charachters at once driffting off.
I will give it another shot and this time watch it to the end, maybe it all make sense again, because I really liked the show.

I liked Brenda at the beginning of the series. Once she and Nate got back together, she got boring real quick.

I don't know how you can say Nate is one of the worst characters. Aside from being the central protagonist, his character is by far the most interesting, in my opinion. His journey throughout the series is one of extraordinary growth and exploration.
