Silent Hill is the reverse for me. I thought it would be decent and it turned out to be horrible.
Anyways, I'll add "Atonement" to this thread. I had zero interest in seeing it when it was in the theatre and caught it on HBO a few months back. Really, a very good movie and far less of a period romance than I thought it would be.

The one movie that came to my mind immediately was Deuce Bigalow (the first one). I pretty much hate comedies and Rob Schneider but for some fucking reason I ended up watching this one night and was surprised that not only was it watchable, it was actually mildly entertaining and not nearly as stupid as I had anticipated although there were of course some stupid parts, on the whole it was pretty good.
The first Resident Evil the other two were horrible though

When I first heard of it I thought it would be another bland Ben Stiller vehicle but once I started to read about the controversial nature of the film I went to see it and really enjoyed it.

Yeah, that one definitely. I thought it'd be ok, but nothing special. Then it started getting good reviews and I had to see it, turned out to be fucking hilarious.

Usually when Stiller plays a character that is kinda off I like him. But Tropic Thunder did nothing for me. And when he plays an 'everyman' he is just horrible.
I could name a billion 'hope its good but it was horrible' movies. But lets go with:
Kung Fu Panda - I thought it just be a cartoon Beverly Hills Ninja flick. Sure it wasn't really orgininal but I laughed.
Galaxy Quest was ok. Zoolander was more surprising than Tropic Thunder.
Some of these movies make me wonder what is wrong with you people.

Man, some of these movies that you guys are mentioning are movies that I knew were going to be good.
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist was as awesome as I predicted. And Hot Rod was also great. How can you not expect great things from The Lonely Island?

Yeah, I expected awesomeness heading into "Zodiac"
Because Jake Gyllenhaal was the lead. and it was about an unsolved, 30 year old case. And Fincher was coming off Panic Room, which was meh.
