Scorsese's next with Leo and a kick-ass cast. Teaser poster below.

How does this poster impact your expectations of the film?

RopeofSilicon user “Friends of Eddie” last sent in scans from Cahiers du Cinéma’s January 2009 edition with a diary written by Argentinean filmmaker Celine Murga based on her experiences on the set of Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island and today he returns with a piece of teaser art from the film scanned out of the Berliner Zeitung newspaper as part of a story about TMG/Concorde, the film’s distributor.

Since it is a scan you can slightly see some of the words bleeding through on the lighter areas but for the most part it is a top quality image, but I can’t help get the feeling it is still an early piece of artwork since the font used to write “Whatever happened to patient 67?” on the wall is just a generic font and isn’t exactly up to final art quality.

Shutter Island is currently due out on October 2 and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow, Patricia Clarkson, Emily Mortimer and Jackie Earle Haley. The official site is also live, but merely with placeholder information.

Laeta Kalogridis’ adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s 2004 novel, in which Ruffalo will play U.S. Marshal Chuck Aule, who travels with his new partner (DiCaprio) to the eponymous Massachusetts island in 1954. As they investigate the disappearance of a patient from a hospital for the criminally insane, they encounter a web of lies, a hurricane and a deadly inmate riot that leaves them trapped on the island.

Dissappointed to be honest?

"Whatever happened to patient 67?"

There would have been more punnage material to be had had it been Patient 69? is this going to be another Irish-fest too? because if it is then I don't approve, to be sure, to be sure...

The book was a confusing letdown. And I normally love Lehane, but I didn't care for the resolution to his story. Maybe the film will clean up some plot problems, though I doubt it ...

I thought Scorsese was going to make Silence by Shusaku Endo, so that he's doing another plot-driven genre movie after The Departed is a bit of a surprise. Not knowing the book, I'm wondering if this is going to be a tip of the hat to Hitchcock, like Key to Reserva (http://www.scorsesefilmfreixenet.com/video_eng.htm).

Why does Marty repeat himself while he talks? He sounds like my senile uncle.

Yeah you are right. From this article looks like he is pretty much done with Shutter Island and moving to Silence next.

Scorsese, King talking up 'Silence'
Daniel Day-Lewis, Benicio Del Toro to star
By MICHAEL FLEMING

Martin Scorsese is determined to make "Silence" his next movie. The helmer and Graham King's GK Films are negotiating with Oscar winners Daniel Day-Lewis and Benicio Del Toro to star. Gael Garcia Bernal is also circling the film, expected to begin production later this year in New Zealand.
The drama is set in the 17th century as two Jesuit priests face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and to spread the gospel of Christianity.

"Silence" is based on the Shusaku Endo novel, which was adapted by Jay Cocks. Scorsese has had the project on his radar for more than a decade.

King will produce with Gianni Nunnari and Barbara DeFina.

The film would be Day-Lewis' third with Scorsese following "Gangs of New York" and "The Age of Innocence." Day-Lewis has completed the Rob Marshall-directed musical "Nine."
"Silence" would mark the first collaboration for Scorsese and Del Toro, who most recently starred in the Steven Soderbergh-directed "Che" and next stars as the title character in "The Wolf Man." Garcia Bernal, best known for "Babel" and "Y tu mama tambien," is in early talks.

There is currently no domestic distributor for the pic. King is financing the film himself, as he did on "Edge of Darkness," the William Monahan-scripted and Martin Campbell-directed drama that stars Mel Gibson.

Scorsese and King have worked together on "The Departed," "The Aviator" and "Gangs of New York."

Scorsese most recently completed an adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel "Shutter Island" for Paramount with Leonardo DiCaprio starring.

When directors remake films, they should find ways to add DDL.

DDL could be Mr. Miyagi in the Karate Kid remake!

DDL could have played Kirk and Spock in the new Star Trek.

I'm going to remake The Wizard of Oz. DDL will play the Lion, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Wicked Witch of the West. Dorothy will be played by Tony Jaa.

They could remake The Station Agent and use DDL to play the midget. Special effects, like LOTR type shit. Phase midgets out of the limelight completely.

Wizard of Oz - and The Station Agent... fucking hilarious!

Remake all Danny DeVito roes using DDL, and cut out the midget from In Bruges.

I hear Chris Nolan is speaking with DDL to play the Penguin in the next Batman film. He'll also play Batman, Alfred, Two-Face and Catwoman.

Emily Mortimer is in the Pink Panther, right?

Re-Make Pink Panther with DDL as Clouseau (a serious ass kicking Clouseau.)
