5 favorite video games and why.
Shadowman - N64/Dreamcast
I love creepy games and this was the best of it's time. Way over looked, most people have never heard of it. Also the only game I can remember with the words fuck, shit and asshole on the 64.
Metal Gear Series - PS1,2,3/Gamecube
I'm including the entire series as one game. I really like Twin Snakes on the game cube as the first metal gear was one of my favorite. MGS4 remains the only reason I own a PS3.
Earthbound - SNES
One of my first RPG games. The game holds up well, even today. It has that pure 16 bit nostalgia thing going on.
Final Fantasy Series - Playstation
FF8 being my current fav of the series. I still play FFXI from time to time, being that it's the only console MMO.
Super Mario Series - Nintendo
Mario has made some fucked up ventures over the years. Everything from tennis to typing. Super Mario 2 is my favorite of the series with Mario 3 being in a close 2nd.
Of course there are many more, but these are the ones that came to mind, and I still play from time to time.

For the 360, my favorite game by far is Mass Effect. That fucking game is the best told story I've seen in quite some time.

A series doesn't count as a video game Bizz. Man up and make THOSE HARD DECISIONS.
Hey other Kyle. I do what I want. I made sure to mention my favorite of each series.

A few days ago me and Arch were discussing a "GMF's Favorite Game" similar to the favorite babe shit.
It's be a buncha polls, favorite series, favorite game, favorite console, favorite game by console, etc.

That seems a bit nerdy, but totally appropriate.
For the 360, my favorite game by far is Mass Effect. That fucking game is the best told story I've seen in quite some time.
I loved Mass Effect. For a couple years BioWare really hyped the game as a go anywhere do anything kind of game. It just couldn't live up to the hype in my eyes and I was a little let down.
My biggest complaint of the game was the texture loading problems with the unreal 3 engine and 360. It made it difficult to get immersed in the game.
Still a solid game and I'm looking forward to the sequel.

Great thread.
SKIES OF ARCADIA: LEGENDS - Gamecube
I love rpgs, and this has to be one of the best I've ever played. The fighting system is nothing new, but the storyline (which is second to none), characters, cutscenes, and innovations like the ship battles were absolutely brilliant. It was so good I didn't want to finish it. Graphics wern't amazing but whatever, graphics are as important in an rpg as money is to bill gates.
METROID PRIME - Gamecube
Because it was on the GC, there was never any chance of the game getting the acclaim it deserves. Maybe among reviewers and award ceremonies, but if you ask the average gamer what they thought of it, 8 times out of 10 they wont have even played it. A truly amazing game. The landscapes were so detailed, the different flora and fauna so meticulously created. On the surface the enviornments are nothing new, ya have your ice level, your fire level, your green level, but you can't stop marvelling at them all the same. The plot wasn't of much interest to me, but the boss battles were epic, the balance between the weapons was spot on, the map system was brilliant (had anything like it even been done before?). There was so much variety in gameplay, and I don't care what people said, after about 5 minutes the control system is intuitive. Had so much fun playing it, I'd consider buying a GC just to play it again.
GTA: SAN ANDREAS
I love this game. It's the only game where I can drive(/fly) around doing absolutely nothing and still be satisfied. Huge, huge, world, which is brilliant. You can do so much, even if its a bit repetative (pimping, taxi, ambulance, freighter, trucker missions are all the same basically. Take object from A to B, repeat ad nauseum). So many vehicles to piss about in (Super GT is my fav, has shit handling but such a good car). The voice acting is second to none (on the last generation of consoles). The story missions can be immensly fun, or annoying, or repetitive. And if you can't do a certain mission then you can't prgress in the game which I think is a bit stupid. There are a few useless features if you ask me, dating is a waste of time, I don't like the whole having to eat/excersise thing, and the gang war thing is a bit hit and miss to me. But on the whole it's a brilliant game, with great characters, story and graphics.
TALES OF SYMPHONIA - Multiplatform
The Tales series is as old as time itself. This game is one of the best. I can't be bothered to write much on it, but it kicks serious ass. I played it for days at a time it was that hard to put down.
There are more obviously but those are my favourites.

Top 5 (No particular Order)
Metal Gear Solid 4

http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/1057/lolmgsfritzlpr8.jpg
Right off the bat, I could fill this list with Metal Gear Solid titles. MGS is by far my most loved series/videogame of all time. I first bought Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty as an afterthought. I heard it was good so I figured I'd give it a shot. Little did I know it was the start of an extremely nerdy relationship. MGS2, I loved, because before this game, I hadn't seen anything so cinematic represented in an interactive medium. It was like playing through a movie. Not only that, but there was substance and attention to detail like I had never seen before. There was so much you could do. You could call Otacon 15 times and he'd rattle off something different each time. They'd just have useless dialogue that you never had to see, but they included it if you wanted to dig deep. They really fleshed out the members of Dead Cell, and gave them a background and a history. And again, you could call Peter Stillman and get waist deep in the character's past and motivations, that it was obscene. Everything worked about that game for me. It felt like I was being immersed in a world bigger than my own. I dunno how to describe it, but it was awesome.
Hideo Kojima is a mastermind. If I had to rank these titles in order of personal preference, I would have to say (and God knows it pains me to do this) but: MGS4, MGS2, MGS3, MGS1. MGS1 I played on the gamecube (Twin Snakes), and loved it. I was finally able to play Solid Snake's first "solid" story. But there were a few control issues that I didn't like (no pressure sensitive buttons made it so you couldn't lower your weapon without firing off a shot). MGS3 and MGS1 are pretty much tied, but I have to give it up to MGS3 for the fact that it brought us to the past, to play as Big Boss. Also, you could no longer just run right behind an enemy without them hearing you, and they had online, which was a blast (lots of hackers though). So from top of the line graphics, to unreal storyline depth, to an incredible musical score, orgasm-worthy voice acting, and tense/addicting/beautiful gameplay, this is by far #1 on top game of games.
TLDR: I'd go gay for Snake.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

tpDaNxeoM3M
I sunk countless hours into this game. It's a really tough choice for me between this and Majora's Mask, but ultimately I have to give it up to OoT, if nothing more than the time traveling elements. It's awesome to see Hyrule 7 years later, and as an adult (with magically appearing gauntlets and tights no les..). It was really the basis for Majora's Mask, even though Majora's mask had some great gameplay elements with the different masks and abilities that came with them. I honestly think they should put those up on the Wii online store. Or better yet, on the NDS (if they were able). I actually waited at the end, when the screen goes black and white and you're standing in front of the young princess Zelda, returning back from the future to the new, safe Hyrule. (Navi flies away!) So I waited there. And waited.. and waited.. Actually I think there's an easter egg where if you waited so long the Scarecrow's Song would play (remember that? And the fishing tournament? Ho-lee-shite. So many awesome moments). Basically, I was waiting to be able to play in the new, safe Hyrule. But I was young, and didn't know that this couldn't happen. I wanted to be able to save my game, because everytime I now went back to that file, I would be thrown back into a world where Ganondorf was still breathing, and it bothered me. Bothered me so much I called Funcoland (as they were known) and told them my game wouldn't save after I beat ganondorf. the dude on the other end sounded confused, I don't think he knew what I was talking about. Anyway, i'm rambling. Just another fond memory.
TLDR: Zelda goes in disguise as a MAN named Sheik. Awesome.

http://www.geocities.com/tenistarkage/Dan/neverhappened.jpg
I wasn't much of a fighting game fan until somewhat recently. this past summer I bought Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike for the Xbox, and repeatedly got my ass handed to me by the guys on xbox live. I then got Street Fighter HD Remix on Xbox arcade, and again was destroyed in every possible way, and then some. It's the competition that drives me to play SFIV, and I love the style and move-sets of the characters. I haven't explored many other fighting games than SF, and that's fine. It's the daddy of fighting games as we know them today, and for good reason. The layers of strategy are engaging and with the new focus attack, things can change pretty quick if you get caught off guard. Strategy that games like Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm for the PS3 don't have (considering it's combo system consists of mashing the O button until your thumb bleeds).
TLDR "Space Opera Symphony!"
Starcraft: Broodwar

This game I have been playing since the 7th grade. I got really into it and started playing semi competitively (or just at a higher, more serious level) a year or two back, then realized there are people called "Koreans" who do this for a living. This, in my opinion, is the only RTS that matters. No other RTS will come to Starcraft's level of perfection and balance. I loved watching pro players duke it out, and even the way the Korean commentators react and cast the match can get you really pumped to fire up the game and try to bring your APM up that extra 50 points. At my peak, I was leveling out at about 250APM over a solid 10-15minute bout. I loved the speed, intensity, and concentration needed when the mid-end game came around and you had about 50 different things that needed to be completed at the same time. It's a game about reflexes, brains, and knowing the map and your opponent. Awesome stuff. I absolutely cannot wait for SC2. They better do the Zerg right, or there'll be hell to pay.
TLDR: kekeke ^_^
------
It's tough for me to nail down a 5th game, I may just be a bit tired atm, seeing as I've now been up for about 30 hours. But these are definitely the top 4 (again in no particular order). Truly awesome. it's tough. I feel bad, as though SFIV shouldn't be up there, but rather perhaps a game like TF2 or half-life. Difficult to keep it only at 5, but otherwise I'd probably rattle off 50.

counter-strike, i wasted way too many nights rocking the shit out of my pc with that game. no story, not even single player, i don't think. but the MP was just so good.
devil may cry. guns and swords. it was the shit. any game that makes dual pistols sexy, has my interest.
castlevania: symphony of the night. played it for the first time a few years ago. good stuff. deep for being a psx title.
dead rising: zombie hack and slash. sold.

Gran Turismo series: Yes, I know it's a series but each one has been fantastic. In my opinion, the BEST racing series EVER.
Also, Final Fantasy 7. The whole series is good but #7 just hit new heights!

Goldeneye
http://360.kombo.com/images/content/misc/goldeneye1up.jpg
Absolutely amazing game. I can't imagine growing up without spending hours upon hours upon hours going through those missions in different ways. Putting in stupid cheat codes that made the bad guys' heads far too large. The multiplayer was the best of it's time.
Star Wars Rogue Squadron
http://i3.ebayimg.com/02/c/05/b4/93/a9_8.JPG
Star Wars, I get off on it. I don't know how much of my life I wasted playing this. Too much. Fun as hell.
Final Fantasy 8
http://www.openarcade.info/games_blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/final_fantasy_8_ntsc-front.jpg
I know the general consensus among nerds is that FF7 is by far the best game of the series, but hey, I got a lot of pussy in high school. I liked this one, I thought they improved the graphics dramatically and the fighting system was a bit better.
God of War 2
http://redzonegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/god_of_war2.jpg
The God of War games are fucking great, just fucking great. I can project my pathetic onto inhabit the most badass motherfucker of all time. I'm just gonna pick the second game because it was longer and more asskicking, funtimes.
Call of Duty World At War
http://media.moddb.com/cache/images/games/1/12/11544/thumb_620x2000/call-of-duty-world-at-war.jpg
Again, I believe I'm shirking majority opinion here, but I love this fucking game. I don't know why. I really loved Modern Warfare, but for some fucking reason this game has captured my fancy and I've wasted a lot of my life playing it. The zombie levels are cool too, especially the one in the map pack.
Honorable Mentions:
The Metal Gear Solid games. Yeah, I loved them all since the first one. I probably had the most fun with Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, I liked the setting, the backstory, the new camo feature, I just liked it a lot.
Mario Games. Grew up on 'em. Blah Blah sentimentality and shit.
Ken Griffey Jr major league baseball. I loved Baseball, I loved videogames, and I loved Ken Griffey Jr. What a match.
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. More Star Wars. I love you, Star Wars!
GTA San Andreas. Hours of fun.
And lots of other shit. It's not like I have a life.
PSX - Resident Evil 2
This was one of the first games I ever played and I was absolutely addicted to it. This to me is still on of the shining stars of series (the whole series is amazing.)
360 - Bioshock
This game floored me as soon as I started playing I could not stop. I loved all the different adams and just how creepy the whole game was in general. Plus I'm a sucker for 50's style games.
XBOX - The Elder Scrolls III:Morrowind
This game is amazing. I spent hours just looting in Balmora and just wandering around going through various caves and trying to find all the pieces of the daedric armor. Honestly as good as Oblivion is this game is still better in my opinion (if you can ignore all the glitches).
SNES - Final Fantasy VI (III in the US)
I think alot of people will agree with me the story was great and the gameplay was fun. Just about everygame in the series has a strong story but this one stuck out the most to me.
PS2 - Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3
Another series that I am a huge fan of but this game played through the best and had a very creepy dark story. I also love the fact that for a strong attack the cinematic basically showed your characters committing suicide in various ways to unlock the Persona's within them.

Final Fantasy IV (2 in US)
The game that changed the way I see video games. An actual deep story, with character development, that makes the player feel like he wants to finish the story, not just beat the game.

Final Fantasy Tactics
The first TRUE final fantasy on the Playstation IMO. Extraordinarily deep gameplay systems and a dark story of betrayal, power grabs, backstabbing, murder, kidnapping, and religious denial/Truths. Ties with the above as my favorite RPG ever.

Tekken Tag
IMO, the most deep, complex fighter ever to exist. It even surpasses its own sequels in depth. Its been years, but there was once a time I spent in the cafeteria arcade of my community college mastering every character, playing tourneys, and even setting handicaps against noobs.

Halo
I fucking hated FPS games before playing this. Looking back, it was a fairly simple game, but the popularity, and multiplayer function combined with my old apartments free internet network made this THE game of college.
http://schatztech.hr/linux/grafika/igre/halo_combat_evolved.jpg
Castlevania: Symphony of the night
I only name this one because IMO it is the best of the series. However, each one holds a dear place to me. I rented the original, bought the second as my 3rd NES game ever (incredibly fucking difficult game to beat), got the 3rd for my birthday 2 years later, and ended up getting every single version and sequel of this game released. Even the shitty ones kicked ass. The gameplay the music, the story, all of it.

GOW = Gears of War or God of War?
Gears of War I really do think is overrated. It's fine, but it's a pretty normal shooter with some quicktime events.
God of War I can't speak to, but I know some folks love it.
Oh, and in no order:
Starcraft
http://www.makefive.com/images/200816/878c797fce9171de.jpg
One of the most perfectly balanced RTS' of all time. You are talking about a game more than a decade old that still has crazy Koreans who play it dozens of hours a week finding new strategies for. Endlessly playable, endlessly balanced, the only game I've actually sought out footage of professional gamers playing.
Diablo II
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/bigboxshots/7/578097_49729_front.jpg
Before they got their hooks in me with WoW, Blizzard got me with their (thankfully free to play online) Diablo sequel. Suffice it to say me and my level 82 Zeal Paladin spent a lot of time playing. A lot a lot. Like to the point where Diablo-talk was banned from the dinner table at a friend's house because whenever I went over there that was all we'd talk about. For like a year.
World of Warcraft
http://www.mmoger.eu/images/world_of_warcraft_box.jpg
Ok look, I know I'm a pretty ugly/fat kid, but I think Blizzard is at least partially responsible for my lack of social skills, particularly with women. Each one of these fucking games sucked at least a solid year (in reality several years) out of me, and WoW took a monthly fee for the privelege. Thank god my mother was stupid enough to enter her credit card number when I originally signed up, so at least I wasn't paying for my addiction the entire time.
Goldeneye
http://360.kombo.com/images/content/misc/goldeneye1up.jpg
I always forget it when I'm making these lists, and that is simply wrong wrong wrong. I went back and tried to play this recently, but the MacGyver'd 6-axis with the D-pad was so awkward I couldn't get a hold of it. But in the day this simply was THE game.
Grand Theft Auto 3
http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa318/petef201/Grand_Theft_Auto_3_Cover.jpg
One of the few games on my PS2 that I played heavily, but oh man did I play it heavily. About halfway into my GTAIII addiction I made the fatal flaw of saving my game with the angry citizens cheat on (which becomes impossible to turn off if you save with it on), which made the game actually more interesting (keeps you on your toes more when ANYONE can attack you). Never really got into any of the other ones.
Honorable mentions: Super Smash Brothers (series), SOCOM I/II, Tekken Tag Tournament (agree w/ taters here), Team Fortress 2, Pokemon Yellow, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

No doubt that Goldeneye is a great game. I loved it, thought it was amazing, and the multiplayer was fantastic. But am I the only one that prefers Perfect Dark(N64) to Goldeneye? Better graphics, better guns, better control- I played some of the missions repeatedly. The XR-20 Farsight? Laptop gun? The Poison knives that blurred your vision? Elvis?! The bonus missions were pretty cool too, when you could play as Mr. Blonde or Trent Easton, get their guns. The dual mode! combat simulator.. videogame's first Black President:

Tons of cool stuff, and one of the first games (that I can remember) that showed your character reloading the weapon instead of it disappearing from screen for a moment before reappearing with a full ammo clip.
