LOS ANGELES - A friend of adult film star Marilyn Chambers says the actress has been found dead at her home in northern Los Angeles County.

Peggy McGinn says the 56-year-old Chambers was found by her 17-year-old daughter Sunday night and the cause of death has not been determined.

Chambers starred in the 1972 film "Behind the Green Door," which was more widely distributed and attracted a more mainstream audience than the usual adult fare.

Chambers, whose given name was Marilyn Briggs, was once a model for Ivory Snow. She was among the first porn superstars when the stag films of the 1940s through 1960s gave way to the more polished sex films of the 1970s.

She was great. A true class act, and a big part of my teenage years, along with Ginger Lynn and Christy Canyon. She was like a friend to me.

Autopsy inconclusive for adult star's death

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles County coroner official says an
autopsy has failed to determine the cause of death for adult film star Marilyn Chambers.

Los Angeles County coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter said Tuesday that 56-year-old Chambers probably died of natural causes, but additional testing will be required.

Chambers was found dead Sunday at her home in the Los Angeles suburb of Canyon Country.

Chambers starred in the explicit 1972 movie "Behind the Green Door," which helped bring hard-core adult films into the mainstream.

Her appearance in the film cost the then-aspiring model and actress her job as Procter & Gamble's Ivory Snow girl. She had appeared on the soap box with a baby and the caption "99 & 44/100 percent pure."
