I really like the book (and the DVC book too). I liked the DVC movie, but didn't love it. This one should at least be a good popcorn flick.

Da Vinci Code was a much more psychological book, solving puzzles by thinking through all the possibilities. That is difficult to make into a movie, especially a movie that's less than 4 hours long.

A&D featured a lot more visual elements, all over Vatican City, something that I think will translate better into a movie than Da Vinci did.

I suffered through the asscrack of the book of "The Da Vinci Code", I despise the popularity of it and wouldn't see the movie and it breaks my heart that this is the sequel Ron Howard chooses to do. Ron Howard. The very good director who doesn't do sequels.

Book was great I happened to read it when they were choosing the latest pope so it added to the intrigue. I hope they don't fuck it up like they did the other movie.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Director Ron Howard on Tuesday defended his film adaptation of "The Da Vinci Code" author Dan Brown 's " Angels & Demons " from criticism that it smears the Roman Catholic Church , heightening an ongoing battle over fictional depictions of the Vatican.

Howard, who also directed the 2006 movie adaptation of " The Da Vinci Code ," posted a blog at The Huffington Post website saying that neither he nor his new movie "Angels & Demons," which debuts in May and stars Tom Hanks , are anti-Catholic.

"And let me be a little controversial: I believe Catholics, including most in the hierarchy of the Church , will enjoy the movie for what it is: an exciting mystery, set in the awe-inspiring beauty of Rome," Howard wrote.

Howard's post came in response to an opinion piece in the New York Daily News by Bill Donahue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, last week. Donahue accused Brown and Howard of "smearing the Catholic Church with fabulously bogus tales."

Last year, the Catholic Church refused to let "Angels & Demons" be filmed in churches in Rome because of the Vatican's outrage over "The Da Vinci Code."

Howard's drama "Frost/Nixon" was nominated for best picture at the Academy Awards this year, but lost to " Slumdog Millionaire ." His other films include " A Beautiful Mind ," which won the best picture Oscar and best directing Oscar for 2001, as well as 1995's " Apollo 13 ."

Brown this week announced that his follow-up novel to "The Da Vinci Code" will be released in September and is titled "The Lost Symbol."

It'll be a shame if they don't use the publicity this movie gets and make an awesome movie instead of it just being passable like the Da Vinci Code was.

The story in the book is awesome and I think it should translate to the screen better than Code did. Code just had so much info in it...and I think Howard tried to squeeze too much of it in a 2 hour movie. Really want to have a good movie going experience with this one.

It was 2 1/2 hours. It is hard to ask most people to sit for longer. I think they should have had the normal movie and an extended movie that covers more of the in depth info. I didn't like the movie as much as the book, but I have high hopes for this one.

Exactly, like with the LoR trilogy. You can't reasonably expect people to sit through a movie that long and still be paying attention.

Going by the clips released on the Yahoo, there seems to be a bunch of little changes through the movie when compared to the book. Like UNC said, I feel the DaVinci Code was sub par as a film bc it tried to be the book. Hopefully A&D will allow the movie to be enjoyed better by those who read the book.

Just saw it. It's better than DA VINCI, but Howard still has not figured out how to make these films move like Brown's best-sellers. There's more action, and a sense of urgency ... for the most part. But 2 1/2 hours is too long, and minor changes made near the end sidestep some major controversies. Hanks tries his damndest to inject some humor These adaptations have been way too serious. Brown's books aren't sacred text, yet Howard treats them as such - to the detriment of his films.

Ah well.

I'm seriously worried that this one will derivate too much from the books intended meaning and storyline.

No. In fact, Langdon turns out to be a disgruntled altar boy who was ass raped by the Pope at a young age. But here's the twist. Langdon's disgruntled because he loved the penetration sensation so much, and he has yet to find a pope with as meaty a cock to fill up his gaping hole. So he heads to Rome in search of deep, wide and wet gay sex. At least, that's the version I watched. And I thought the title card "Anal & Demons" was a typo!

Can someone tell me why they changed the carmelengo's name for this movie? I mean Patrick? Seriously? Seriously? And where the hell is Maximilian Kohler? This movie is going to suck.

I saw it last night and liked it. This movie is closer to the book than the Davinci Code was. Brown took alot of creative license in Bernini's statues, especially in the directions they were pointing, but this was an interesting story.

I was just disappointed by the phrase 'bio entanglement physicist' and the absurd plot surrounding so-called 'anti-matter.'

The studio could have at least requested a real scientist to advise on the screenplay.

As a stand alone movie, I liked it a lot, but comparing it to Da Vinci Code, I didn't think it was as good. I was pretty much happy getting up and throwing away my popcorn after the parachute scene. I felt like lacked hair on the back of the neck standing up quality that the code had. I will say that the person that I went with liked it better then the Code. I did enjoy the twist and turns in the storyline.

Anti matter has been produced in our world. Nowhere near the amounts in A&D but it does exist.
