Anyone else worried about what is going to happen? Writers handled last season plot fine, but the loss of Tobey, Ryan (?), and dealing with Pam and Jim could be unfunny. Or really funny. Here's to hoping for the best

Yeah kind of worried it will become "Drama" with the Pam/Jim Romance... Obviously she is going to go to school, one of them is going to meet someone else, blah blah blah...
One of the best scenes has to be when Michael gives Tobby his exit interview in the final show last season...

My belief is that Jim takes Ryan's job and they both move to NY. They then show both HQ stuff and Scranton stuff

There's no way they break up Jim and Dwight...at least I hope not. Their pranks are half the show. Although I just want Pam to show off those puppies, which she might do at school in NY. Maybe it wouldn't be that bad.

The reasoning behind my guess is that
1) they practically offered the job to Jim before, but he wouldn't take it due to Pam
2) Pam needs to go to Philly or NY, so know Jim can leave
3) Pam and Jim both work at HQ when Pam finishes her schooling and she does something aesome to prove her chops to Dunder Mifflin
4) Jim can still pull pranks on Dwight. Now, they can be even more absurd. Also, we saw plenty of Ryan even tho he worked at HQ
5) Gotta keep a show fresh. Pam and Jim have been central to the show a bit too long. Dwight and Michael are the show. They can bring in other acts to spice stuff up (Darryl, Tobey, Andy)

I am wondering though if "the IT crowd" US (with the Moss character in both us/uk and the same actor) will be as good.

If your preference is dry british humor then naturally your preference is the UK version. I really think that seasons 2-4 of the US version are some of the best comedy ever put on tv.

Yeah. There is something to be said for the way the US has been able to sustain the quality. And now that there is a deeper well of episodes to draw from, the two versions get harder and harder to compare. The US version is great, I just have a hard time looking past the absolutely dreadful first season and a half.

How can you make a statement like that and not expect to start a big debate?
I completely disagree. The british office was good, but as its been said, dry british humor needs to be your thing. I agree that the first few versions of the US office weren't great, but they were targeted towards a public that for the most part hadn't seen the british office (if its not broken, don't fix it mentality), but the US Office has taken on a life of its own and I think it is far superior to the original.
Not only that but the "pam" in the British Office is a big fat hog beast that probably eats a bajillion pancakes for breakfeast.
grimoald
08-17-2008, 04:06 PM
The thing is the two are vastly different shows. I don't think there is much in the history of television that maintained such a high level over every minute as the UK Office. While the US show is great the UK version is also much more layered and kind of surpasses the sitcom format.
That said I find the US show a lot easier to watch, even when it does embrace the humour of embarrassment it does so in a way that is almost knowing, while Brent's antics are so real it can be excruciating. It also does have its fair share of weak episodes, but when it is on there isn't much funnier.
The Office UK was good, but The Office US is much better.
I am wondering though if "the IT crowd" US (with the Moss character in both us/uk and the same actor) will be as good.
I think that has pretty much died. NBC commissioned 6 eps, but then new executives took over and that was that. It is a shame, as I think Joel McHale is great and would have liked to have seen him get a good gig.
Not only that but the "pam" in the British Office is a big fat hog beast that probably eats a bajillion pancakes for breakfeast.

Well what's good is the real disruption is happening amongst Angela/Dwight/Andy who are already weird enough they can write almost whatever they want to 'fix' things. So long as they don't just continually make Pam/Jim the selling tool for the finale, I'm ok.

What Carl said. They called each other at the same time and got each other's voicemail, which is supposed to show that they really are right for each other. Though they're "out of sync" they managed to call each other at the right time.
I loved Jan playing reverse psychology with Michael. "Whatever you do, don't date Holly." So what does he do? He runs back in and asks Holly on a date. It made me think of Michael running through the glass door because he heard the ice cream truck. He is such a child.
One of the funniest moments of the episode came when Andy got the baby pictures wrong. The double-take he did on Angela's baby picture killed me (and I forget...I think the baby had a frown on its face?).

I agree. I thought Roy would be more of a dick, not simply a plot device to show another facet of Jim and Pam's relationship. The writers may have missed a chance to inject some funny (the uncomfortable kind) with the situation. Instead, Jim comes off as looking pathetic any time he questions the relationship. To me, the funny, laid-back, witty Halpern wouldn't act like this.

Darryl is becoming a great character on the show. A couple weeks ago, it was rather subtle, but when Michael came down to the dock area and confined in Darryl, just the way he said, "What's up, MIKE?" was hilarious. Then last week with, "Mike gave me a list of his top ten Springsteen songs. 3 of them were Huey Lewis and the News, 1 was Tracy Chapman's Fast Car, and my personal favorite, Short People." Now the latest episode, singing Life is a Highway and the blues...classic.

Holly's probably going to be back. At the beginning of this season they said she was going to be a main character, it doesn't make any sense to just get rid of her.

Because Jim buying that house unannounced is a bunch of bullshit and turning the garage into a crappy art studio shouldn't cut it (especially considering Pam just flunked out of art school).
