So the crime in the movie is obviously Juddah partaking in the murder of Dolores, but what is the "Misdemeanor?"

The original reason for the title is that the movie once contained musical interludes by a certain up and coming performer, but they were cut after poor test audience reaction.

They left the title in anyway, letting it refer to the various transgressions of the characters, duplicity, infidelity, superficiality, that don't constitute crimes.
