I'm running build 7000 just to check it out. This isn't really an issue but feel that it's gotta be a setting somewhere. Anyone else running this?
The taskbar seems a bit different. I've got most of my normal stuff by my system clock (network, audio, battery power, Skype, etc) but Windows Live Messenger, which had to be downloaded separately and installed) minimizes to my taskbar while running rather than where it always has, over by the system clock. skype minimizes correctly, but it's just irritating to always have a box in my taskbar as though a program is open and just minimized to the taskbar.
I've checked both Taskbar properties as well as options in Live messenger.

Nevermind, just found my answer. Ah well, to anyone else that may run across this at some time, run it in Vista Compatibility mode.
Exit Windows Live Messenger or MSN Messenger completely (Right click on WLM button/icon on Taskbar and select Exit).
Go to Start Menu, locate the Windows Live Messenger shortcut. Tip: It’s also possible to deal directly with the actual WLM program, msnmgsr.exe located in %ProgramFiles%\Windows Live\Messenger\ folder.
Right click on the Windows Live Messenger shortcut or executable, and select Properties. http://www.mydigitallife.info/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/wlm-properties.jpg
Go to Compatibility tab.
Tick the check box for Run this program in compatibility mode for under “Compatibility Mode”, and then select Windows Vista from the drop down list. http://www.mydigitallife.info/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/wlm-vista-style.jpg
Click OK.
Run Windows Live Messenger.

So how's driver compatibility? From what I've heard so far, everything just shows up automatically, but also XP drivers work...is this true?

I've installed it on two different machines and the drivers could not have been easier. Everything was recognized immediately and installed with very little input. Impressive when compared to XP which can be a bitch sometimes in regard to drivers.

I'm running this under VirtualBox right now, just to see what's new compared to Vista.

Actually my USB headphone/mic set picked up automatically and perfectly however my soundblaster x-fi card didn't automatically. I haven't tried manually installing drivers for it yet. A couple other things, like one of my external hard drives, etc. didn't show properly at first, but as i sat at the device window they picked up. (this was after final installation etc. so was odd, but worked)
My Microsoft Webcam is listed as not working properly which surprises me. It's a new one as well that I had to get for Vista x64.
had to install a new (beta) version of Skype or it'd shut down after a few seconds of being loaded. The OS itself seems pretty nice overall. some small features here and there that I like.

Would anyone know how well this thing works with a home network? I am debating installing it, but I cant lose access from my good desktop to my server desktop (not running server 03, using XP pro's home/office network as the connector).

I havent' checked to see how well my other vista/XP systems detect Windows 7, but it set up VERY easily and can see all other computers on my network perfectly. Minimal setup. Seriously EXTREMELY simple. Just. . .works.

If anyone has any experience/knowledge with Windows 7 and Blu-Ray support let me know. I'm hoping that Media Center has native support this go around but I'm doubtful.

Media Center, or Media Player?
I can check when I log back into it.

I loaded it on a test machine, dont remember the build on it but i have been running a stress test and have had no problems, its been up running the stress test for the last 3 days no problems.
So far no compatibility issues other than it didn't like my USB keyboard for some odd reason. I think the keyboard was Jacked anyway.

Thanks.
You neg'd me for this? Well, although I wasn't able to directly answer your question at that moment, I was hoping to lend some insight to someone regarding similar issues.
Do not expect assistance in the future with negging people that actually take the time to respond.

Media Center.
You'll need a Blu-Ray drive to test it out though.

Yea, I've got a Blu-ray drive. I'll reboot and actually give it a shot here in just a second. Dont' have any additional software for it, so should be simple.

I apologize. I didn't pay any attention that you had such neg rep, so the rep you gave did show up as grey. It wasn't neg, it just didn't count toward anything. I guess I kinda jumped the gun not seeing that it was green and assuming you were being sarcastic.
So again, I apologize for the response.

Nope. No playback/detection of Blu-Ray or HD-DVD in Windows 7 in Media center, or Media player of course. At least at this time in Beta. Perhaps a feature upon release? Although i'm willing to bet (M$ was pushing HD-DVD originally) that M$ will not support Blu-ray out of the gate due to licensing. You'll still need to get 3rd party software for this. Perhaps when we see a blu-ray add-on for the XB360 we'll see direct support in Windows. (if that happens)

Now, once I've installed my PowerDVD 7, choosing "Play DVD" opens up PowerDVD and the movie starts playing. Retarded. wish they'd at LEAST keep it w/in Media Center, even if using PowerDVD to decode the movie. Bleh. Oh well, i've never liked using Media Center itself anyhow.

I've read that they are outsourcing the Media Center Blu-Ray support to PowerDVD (edit: to get around licensing I believe), but I don't know when/if that is going to happen.
I have my computer hooked up to a big screen. If I can keep everything within Media Center I'll upgrade. If not, I'll stick with Vista Ultimate.

Ok, so Ive got Iso's of the 32bit and 64bit versions, and am considering just nixing Xp finally and going straight to it. I know they put some kind of XP emulator or virtual OS or whatever within the RC version.
My question is, does anyone have this yet? I am wondering how well it actually works with xp applications, not just games.
Also, I am really wondering does the 64bit version of also have a workable XP 32bit virtual os/emulator or whatever?

I've got it running in a VM in Ubuntu. Before you decided to make 7 your main operating system, remember that starting on March 10th, it'll shut down every 2 hours. Which applications are you talking about? I'm pretty confident 7 will work with any XP application you use.

It shuts down every 2 hours (or at least, it will by March 10 of next year)? I was not aware of this, though I am sure a 'get around' will go online before then.
Do you have the 64bit version?
Specifically, all my games, old and new (from starcraft to fallout 3 *list too long but you get the jist), itunes, photoshop, office 03 enterprise, Chrome, Nero, Azerous/vuze and peerguardian off the top of my head.

I would be surprised if any of those didn't work. I know Fallout 3, iTunes, Photoshop, Chrome, Nero and Azureus will all work, that's all shit I ran on 64-bit Vista. The XP mode is really only for seriously old shit like Legacy appplications. I would be surprised if you had to use it.
