All more or less recent titles going "bang" go here. Top vote-getter competes for the best current game spot.

Left 4 Dead's gotten quite a few noms, but it's already gotten some votes in the Survival Horror category, so I chose to omit it here. Bitch away.

Whoops, my bad. Edited. Warhead is better anyway.

Damn. Bioshock is the best game on that list but it isnt the best shooter (if that makes sense).

It does, even though I disagree about that "best game" part.

HL2 isn't that great a shooter, either, but as a game experience, it has few peers.

Yeah I put Bioshock and HL2 in the same group in that respect. Really the best shooter on that list is CoD4.

Bioshock > HL2 in any gaming sense (ok, maybe not weapon variety)

I love them both dearly, but HL2 got Bioshock beat by a country mile in terms of originality and variety. HL2 was bigger and better than its predecessor in every way, while Bioshock really wasn't that much of an improvement, if any, over System Shock 2 (which it didn't need to be, seeing as how imo, SS2 is easily one of the best 50 games ever, on any list).
Also, I always found that agoraphobia is far more effective than claustrophobia (albeit harder to pull off) in creating seriously oppressive atmospheres - another example being SotC - but that's a question of personal taste more than anything, I guess.

Damn, no Halo: Combat Evolved? That was so much better than 2 or 3...

Only if you're blinded by nostalga. I was introduced to the franchise with 3 and enjoyed it enough to buy the 1&2 boxset to check them out. Halo 1 is boring and basic, Halo 2 is better but the Arbiter sections suck the momentum out of the game. Halo 3 is the best but could have done with more original set-pieces.

Is nostalga the sequel to Galaga?

I've never got the I in nostalgia. Makes it sound too Italian for my tastes.

Better than Greek.

Makes sense, if you pronounce the I the word suddenly becomes gayer.

I am going to lead a one man crusade to anglicise nostalgia!

There was just nothing bad about 1, while 3 and ESPECIALLY 2 had major problems.

I went with CS:S. I spent many hours playing CS:S. It's simple, but so satisfying. I literally ejaculated every time I came around a corner with the pump shotty and took someone's head off...literally came in my pants.

You think after a while you'd stop wearing pants.

Bioshock ftw. I hate to chose over BF2, but it was the community that made BF2 more fun than anything.
