BOSS.

http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/next/index.html

The last (http://kotaku.com/5265174/kojima-productions-teaser-countdown-ends-just-as-youd-expect) Kojima Productions (http://kotaku.com/tag/kojima-productions/) countdown clock wasn't exactly climatic. This one will hopefully make up for it. The lighting and rain return, but the letters "R" and "P" flash on the screen...along with? What looks like a close-up of Big Boss.
The lighting and rain return, but the letters "R" and "P" flash on the screen...along with? What looks like a close-up of Big Boss. Big Boss is, of course, Solid Snake's commanding officer in the original Metal Gear, and it is later revealed Snake is his son-slash-clone.
If rumors that the next issue of Famitsu reveal a "New Metal Gear" reveal (http://kotaku.com/5264781/new-metal-gear-featured-in-next-issue-of-famitsu) or the site's keywords ("Hideo Kojima", "MGS", "METAL GEAR", "NEXT", "game") don't convince you that Kojima Productions is announcing a new Metal Gear game, then perhaps Big Boss will.
And yes, there is another countdown clock. It ends on June 1.

http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/kotaku/2009/05/raiden_famitsu_kp.jpgLeaked scans from the upcoming Famitsu show another familiar Metal Gear (http://kotaku.com/tag/metal-gear/) character: Raiden.
Raiden means "thunder and lightning" in Japanese — fitting as the teaser site has mostly been thunder and lighting. Oh, rain, there has been rain.
Those hoping for a plethora of details from the Famitsu reveal, tough luck. The title of the article is "Director Kojima Interview With Tons of Blanked Out Words: Talking The Latest MGS."
http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/kotaku/2009/05/blanked_interview.jpgThe interview seems to be mostly that: blanked out words.
See all those white dots? Those are blanked words. The big text on this page shows an exchange between the interview and Kojima. The interview asks, "Is it okay to print everything?" (Which gives substantial insight onto how Famitsu rolls.)
Kojima replied, "If you blank out words, it's okay."
Little to no info so far... But the countdown clock ends on June 1st... Who is supposed to do their E3 keynote on that date?

I just finished MGS4 today so I'm curious as to how they will continue it. Will we see 'Older Snake' in this one? Maybe we'll spend the whole game riding around on a suped up Rascal scooter.

Why is this not in the PS 3 subforum?

Unless the big kicker is it's not an exclusive anymore.

Why is this not in the PS 3 subforum?

Unless the big kicker is it's not an exclusive anymore.

That's just it- I decided to throw it in the general videogame discussion instead of the PS3 forum because it could be multiplatform (you never know). But the renders do look very much PS3-ish, if that makes any sense. I guess we'll have to wait and find out.

BTW- here's a translation of the Famitsu interview with Kojima (still censored of course).

This week's issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu features an interview (http://kotaku.com/5270922/first-big-boss-and-then-raiden-with-censored-kojima-interview) with Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima (http://kotaku.com/tag/hideo-kojima/) about his new project. Make that a censored interview with Hideo Kojima. Can you decipher it? When speaking with Famitsu Editor-in-Chief Hirokazu Hamamura, Kojima apparently revealed more than he originally intended about his new title. Hamamura asked Kojima if Famitsu could run the full interview. Kojima agreed as long as the mag censored the important stuff. And Famitsu did just that.
Below are excerpts we translated. Each "X" refers to a corresponding white circle Famitsu used to blot out important info. If you are planning on filling in the blanks, do keep in mind that they refer to a single Japanese character.

Hamamura: XXXXXXXXX's XXXXXX?
Kojima: But, XXXXXXXXX. It's XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.
Hamamura: Ah! I get it!!
Kojima: "XXXXX XXXXX XXX". Well, it's not "X", but a "X" kind of feeling. That's him. I can't say the title yet, but it's this kind of feeling. But it's the Metal Gear saga's tradition.
Hamamura: The time period is XXX?
Kojima: No, it's XXX. I'm saying everything, maybe XXXXX. I'm designing and directing all of this game.
Hamamura: Wha!
Kojima: I think the focus will be domestic, and we're launching it globally. For me, this is like "XXXX". I won't say "X", but a solid story has been created, and the MGS4 staff is making it.
Hamamura: Wow! That's great.
Kojima: This time, only the image of this guy (image (http://kotaku.com/5270977/kojima-productions-updates-site-with-big-boss)) will appear. Then lighting. Just this appearing, I wan everyone to guess. This is how XX's will be appearing.
Hamamura: This...is Big Boss?
Kojima: XX's way of appearing is slightly different.
Hamamura: Eh? Different...?
Kojima: The emblem on this guy's hat is important.
Hamamura: The emblem isn't a fox. There's like a world map thing drawn.
Kojima: It's not only an emblem, but for the game, it will be a new type of system.
Hamamura: Is it XX-XXXXXXXXXX?
Kojima: Yes. You'll while XXXXXXX. XXXX, etc. are a given, so they'll be included. Ooops, I've said more than I was planning to. (laughs)
Hamamura: Hahahahaha! Well XXXXXX, it's XXXXXXX? Also, where's the game going to be set?
Kojima: The place is XXXXXXX. XXXXXXXXX happened, and it's a XXXXX type of country. There isn't XXXXXXXX in the country, but they do have XX like things and XXXX. At that time, XXXXXX come to where the guy (http://kotaku.com/5270977/kojima-productions-updates-site-with-big-boss) is.
Kojima: The theme is XX. XXXXX kinda thing or XXX theme, or XXXXXXXXXXXX, or why is there X, that's where we're drawing. Maybe everyone is probably thinking, "This sermon again!" Maybe this sermon will become a genre. (laughs)
Hamamura: Ahahahaha!
Kojima: This is quite a deep interview.
Hamamura: So true!

Really doesn't say much unless we can make educated guesses as to what the blanks are supposed to be.

I'm designing and directing all of this game.

For fucks sake Kojima! I love having you in charge and wouldnt have it any other way but it pisses me off that every MGS game that has come out since MGS1 on the PS you have said will be your last. There is no shame in admitting you want to go on creating games for the franchise you started and love.

I dunno.. i am afraid he doesnt really want to keep going on MGS and he is just falling under the big pressure of Konami, you know.. companies who tell "make that games which produces $$$ and not what you would love to do"

http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/kotaku/2009/05/maybe_raiden.jpgAnd it continues (http://kotaku.com/5270977/kojima-productions-updates-site-with-big-boss). On and on and on. Kojima Productions (http://kotaku.com/tag/kojima-productions/) updated its countdown page today, revealing this image.
Is it Raiden? Is it Gray Fox? Is it Sunny? Who knows? Kojima does, that's who. Him and his minions. There are also new letters: C, O, P. There's the number six, too.
The site also sports a new Kojima Productions logo in the bottom corner. When it changes to a mask, click on the image, and it takes you to another site. That site has this:http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/kotaku/2009/05/mask.jpg
There's music, too! That mask seems to morph into this:
http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/kotaku/2009/05/mask-1.jpg
And that morphs into:
http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/kotaku/2009/05/no_mask.jpgIs this Lords of Shadow (http://kotaku.com/5267167/is-kojima-working-on-lords-of-shadow)? Rather, was? So many questions, so many countdowns, too much time.
I wonder what that mask is exactly...

And why is Raiden's eye covered? Is it actually Raiden at all? Maybe it's Gray Fox? Too many questions- still pretty much naked in terms of info.
