Interview with Chet Faliszek (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/06/01/left-4-dead-2-exclusive-podcast-with-chet-faliszek/)
Quote:
In a world exclusive audio interview, Rock, Paper, Shotgun sat down with Valve’s project lead, Chet Faliszek, to discuss the freshly revealed Left 4 Dead 2.

Within is comprehensive coverage of the new game, the new ideas, the new weapons and campaigns and characters and Infected. You’ll find this nowhere else on the internet. It’s still a Rock, Paper, Shotgun podcast, of course, so there’s also plenty of discussion about our mums, swine flu, and Chet’s horror at John’s foul language.

Chet talks not only about the new elements to the game, but also gives us some background as to why Valve chose to make a whole new game, rather than expanding upon the original. There’s also information on how this doesn’t mean L4D is forgotten. And if that sounds too sensible, you can also hear John as Chet questions like, “2?” and “Is this the best interview you’ve ever had?”

I don't want to break up the gang bang here, but I'm a little disappointed at the look of the game. It doesn't look anything like L4D. Kind of looks cartoony. Obviously that won't take away from the greatest thing about L4D, the gameplay, so I'll still be buying it.

So I'll just be the creepy guy in the corner jacking off to the gang bang.

Did anyone else like the guys in hazmat suits that became infected? When i first saw them i thought they were some guys in some baggy hoodies.

I wish they would change the look of the special infected since they are in a new town...Like a hunter wearing a wife beater...

One of the bigger surprises of E3 was Valve's announcement (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3174487) of Left 4 Dead 2, mainly because -- given Valve's history of post-release support -- no one expected a sequel to the original game to come this soon. But for many, the announcement has garnered much more than just surprise. Kotaku reports (http://kotaku.com/5281374/l4d-sequel-met-with-much-more-than-indifference) that a new group (http://steamcommunity.com/groups/L4D2boycott) on the Steam Community site has promised to boycott Left 4 Dead 2, and this group, as of this writing, is 10,661 members strong. The group (titled "L4D2 Boycott (NO-L4D2)") has posted a few key reasons for why exactly they're so upset with this announcement, which can be perused in this handy list:

Significant content for L4D1 was promised, and never delivered
Valve put little faith in L4D1 since they almost certainly started working on L4D2 right after release
The fact that L4D2 is nearly identical to L4D1 will decimate the community for both games
The announced date is not nearly enough time to polish content or make significant gameplay changes
The new character designs seem bland and unappealing so far
L4D2 is too bright to fit in with L4D1's visual aesthetic
The fiddle-based horde music is extremely disliked, though the differently orchestrated music is otherwise welcome
L4D2's release will result in a drop in quality and frequency for L4D1 content, even compared to before
The community has lost faith in Valve's former reputation for commitment to their games post-release

While complaints about the "fiddle-based" music and "bright" visual aesthetics recall some of the sillier complaints levied (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3168512) against Diablo 3 (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3138257) last year, many of these points do seem like legitimate bones of contention. More troublesome, though, are reports that posts regarding the boycott group on the official Steam forums are being removed, with those making the posts receiving warnings and reprimands (as you can see in this forum screen grab (http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/kotaku/2009/06/L4D2_01.jpg)).
Speaking (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=23911) to Gamasutra earlier this week, Tom Leonard, project lead for Left 4 Dead 2, explained why they decided to make a sequel so soon after the original's release last November. Shortly after the first game's release, Leonard explained, the team "hit the white board and came up with ideas about how we could expand the experience -- new characters, new locations, new positioning on the timeline of the infection, new game mechanics." He continued, "As we started talking that through, it became clear that we weren't really talking about incremental updates; we were talking about a whole experience. And it would be hard to deliver that totality of experience in incremental bits."
It doesn't look like Valve has issued any official statement regarding this growing boycott yet (and it should be noted that a lot could change between now and L4D2's release, and some who have pledged to boycott it may not hold to that pledge by November). If any kind of official statement comes in, we'll pass it along.

lol infractions

Honestly, it's kid of crazy they are boycotting it. It's Valve, and it's hard for me to remember a time they really have ever let me down with a game. On top of this, they are really delivering a whole new game, and they said for us to expect some updates and news for L4D within the coming weeks.

Really? I am usually one of the people bitching that if I like a game I want a sequel soon. I'm still waiting on DR2. Which I bought when it came out.

Significant content for L4D1 was promised, and never delivered - Added a survival mode and added vs for the final 2 scenarios. FOR FREE.
Valve put little faith in L4D1 since they almost certainly started working on L4D2 right after release - Little Faith? Why make a sequel to a game you have LITTLE FAITH in?
The fact that L4D2 is nearly identical to L4D1 will decimate the community for both games - Yeah because it kills Madden every year its almost exactly the same. Halo 2 and 3 seem to do well even though there was barely an upgrade in much.
The announced date is not nearly enough time to polish content or make significant gameplay changes - Adding new places, weapons, people and such might have been in place but were removed from L4D. And now its been perfected?
The new character designs seem bland and unappealing so far - Some people are bland. Its not next top model in L4D.
L4D2 is too bright to fit in with L4D1's visual aesthetic - That would mean its a different place? Taking place during the day? GASP! I have never seen zombies during the day before.
The fiddle-based horde music is extremely disliked, though the differently orchestrated music is otherwise welcome - Wah
L4D2's release will result in a drop in quality and frequency for L4D1 content, even compared to before - What content was left? Only thing I can think of is expansion packs. But it seems they did a sequel instead.
The community has lost faith in Valve's former reputation for commitment to their games post-release - Yeah because they only fixed bugs in the thing every month, added free content and has been hard at work on a sequel before people get bored with 1. And they have not stopped working on TF2 stuff. So Valve made a quick sequel? So what? I am still waiting on Half Life 2 Ep III.

I just hope the game is longer. My friend and I beat the first L4D in a few hours and got quickly bored of it. Great game, though. This one looks even better!

Warden

The game was made to be short. A few short scenarios that people could beat rather quickly.

In all honesty, L4D is/was a great game but Valve dropped the ball by not adding new content. Saying you are releasing a sequel when the first is still so new seems like a mistake Valve should not be making. Make it DLC, or an expansion, not a damn sequel.

But, since it is a sequel, I dont think I will waste my money on it. I got L4D for a few reasons and the biggest was the content updates I expected. So far, those have not been enough. I won't be buying this one. To short, gets to old way to fast for $60.

Le Goat

As was stated many, many times the Content is far bigger than what they originally anticipated so they made it a sequel. I have a very good feeling that Valve will somehow make it up for their fans, be it a 30 dollar price tag or something big on Steam

I'd really love to have a zombie game where someone can turn into the dead and become an enemy. Not instantly..but gradually. You wouldn't know when it was going to happen and then BAM! your buddy is trying to eat your delicious brains.

Valve is looking into ways to let Left 4 Dead (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3155405) and Left 4 Dead 2 (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3171238) players hunt down zombies together, according to marketing VP Doug Lombardi. In an interview (http://www.totalvideogames.com/Left-4-Dead-2/news/Valve-Trying-To-Work-Out-Cross-Game-Play-Between-L4D1--2-14319.html) with TVG, Lombardi said it's "something that we're trying to work out the details of right now. So nothing specific to say today, but we understand that it's a very valid thing to be working on and looking at." He also pointed out that mods for the first game will be transferable to its sequel "with very minor amounts of work." These steps should do something to appease the almost 40,000-strong boycott group (http://steamcommunity.com/groups/L4D2boycott) on Steam, who claim that the sequel is coming too soon. One of the group's requests is "full compatibility with basic Left 4 Dead owners," but that's said in the context of wishing for Left 4 Dead 2 to be a free update or expansion. We'll see if Valve manages to work in the cross-game functionality, and if so, if it wins back some naysayers.
