Here is the Hypothetical:

You are the leader of the Most powerful Nation on Earth. You have an unlimited ammount of resources, and an Army that would give the combined military might of the United States and China a reason to retreat.

Your Problem?

Fix Africa.

Specifically Eastern and Central Africa.

We can discuss why it is, or why it happened forever, but let's work on the solution instead.

Now, the way I see it, there are really only 2 ways. I am starting this thread to maybe hear some more ideas.

1. Let time and African blood fix this. Let them fight civil war for the next 100 years with no outside interference. No aid that will just be stolen by the troops, no money that will just be spent on weapons, no medicine that will just heal the soldiers so the warlords can continue to fight while babies die of the flu.

Pros: The people eventually will be able to say they did it themselves and be stonger country for it (after the next 100 years of rebuilding)

There will be no outside influence, no palms to grease and their government can start out with a clean slate on the international stage of business.

Cons - Tens of Millions of dead, 70% of which will be civilians. Tens of Millions more from indirect causes like famine, disease and lack of shelter.

Child soldiers.

The Grasp of Islamic Extremists will win in most cases (probably), extending the power of Islamic Terrorists.

OR

2. Recolonize, making them some kind of (Gulp) United Nations Territory.

Cons:
Fuck me, Colonize? Do we have to point out the problems with this? I don't feel like typing them all out. Not to mention, it is a thankless process in both world opinion and the inhabitants. Maybe rightfully so.

Pros: Infastruture will be built up faster. Technology and business will flow in faster. Jobs will be created faster. A whole new market will be opened up to the world.

Both solutions have more cons than pros to me. What do you think?

Answer 1.

If there is a solution for Africa (and I don't think there is), it will have to come from Africa. It's been a black hole where foreign aid goes and dies without ever doing any good. Shit, we had to deliver aid at gunpoint in the 90's.

Regardless of the history and/or the bedwetter's compulsion to blame whitey, we've given it a good shot. Our assistance/interference will never do any good until a functioning society develops organically.

It may be prudent, before one disses Africa and it's ills, to delve a little deeper into the colonial culpability of why it is that Africa has become the basket-case that it is.

Sadly, the method by which England, Belgium, France and to a lesser degree, Germany ran their African colonies, whereby the local population were stripped of any semblance of authority, and the beaurocracy held solely in the hands of ex-pats brought in to enrich and ensconce the power-base of the colonial power, only to up and leave when it became politically incorrect (in Europe) to hang onto one's overseas dominions, without establishing any sort of transitional infrastructure, it seems inevitable that Africa would slide into a quagmire of nepotistic self-enrichment.

The solution for Africa would only ever be achieved by attaching accountability to aid, and not to embark on yet another round of economic subjugation, which, to the majority of 'black' Africans, reeks of yet another whitey hand-me-down.

If it's classified as 'typical American cowboy Imperialism' to be involved in politics in the Middle East, and we should just butt out and let them govern themselves, then the same should apply for Africa.

Sounds like a plan to me. Lord knows of all that has been going on in Africa, things can't get too much worse. Look at that insane leader that has been having boy soldiers kill their family members..he's just a cult leader, another Jim Jones, only he has managed to get away with it for over 23 years.
