Hugh Jackman talks about Gambit and Deadpool characters in Wolverine spin-off
Jul 28, 08
ACTOR Hugh Jackman has revealed details of two of the new characters who will appear in next year's Wolverine spin-off from the X-Men movies.
Jackman, who plays the metal-clawed mutant Wolverine, spoke to Splash Page about two of the other characters to appear in the film - Gambit, who has the power to charge objects with explosive energy, and is played by Taylor Kitsch; and Deadpool, who has an artificial healing power derived from Wolverine's own similar ability, and is played by Ryan Reynolds.
The image above shows Reynolds and the Deadpool comicbook version - images in a teaser trailer show the 31-year-old actor dressed as the character, but without the mask.
Jackman said about Ryan's role as Deadpool: "We were so thrilled to get Ryan. He's the greatest guy. Incredibly funny. He plays Deadpool, the merc with a mouth. Not an easy guy to play. He's always jabbering. He's always going. Physically he's in unbelievable shape and yet he's also got that comedic ability. There are only a handful of actors that can do that."
And on Taylor Kitsch as Gambit, Jackman said: "I can say it. He's sexy, right? He's a little bit like a junior Wolverine in a way. He's a little bit of a wise guy. He's an outsider. He's got some issues himself. He's mischievous. He's cheeky. He's a bit of a badass.
"We have a really great fight sequence. Physically that guy is an animal. He was chucking himself around on the concrete. He has that passion that I remember having when I first did Wolverine. There was no way a stunt double was doing anything for him."
An early teaser trailer for the movie, out next May, was shown at San Diego Comic-Con, and was the first sighting of the mutant Emma Frost, a telepath who can also transform her flesh into a super-hard diamond form.

How so? Just the outward characteristics of him in Blade Trinity? He was a different person altogether from Deadpool if we are getting specific. I think he can pull it off and do a fine job. Introducing Gambit in this movie doesn't make sense to me seeing as how this is an origin movie. Unless its going to be told through flashbacks (sorry if that was stated somewhere already I just recently started following Wolverine). How many of these Origins flick do you all expect to come out before we see an X-Men 4 hit screens?

Magneto is supposed to be the next one, that probably won't come til 2010-2011. By the time that's released who knows if any of the actors would even want to do X-Men 4. They might not have a choice but to do more origins and add new characters.

This is a prequel as is Magneto and apparently the third origins film is being rumored to be X-Men: First Class, focusing on the original five members (even though they clusterfucked that premise by making Angel a 20 year old douche in X-Men 3)

Magneto is supposed to be the next one but Goyer (The same guy who wrote the original treatments for BB and TDK) said he might put that project behind his Invisible Man remake not to mention he has been dicking around with The Flash for years...

It can't be considered a reboot even in that sense. Lauren Donner wants these all connected directly even saying that things that occurred in X-Men 1-3 might have their explanations and precursors here. I would look for it to be in the same vein as X-Men 2 most likely though in terms of what is on screen

Fucking Fox...
http://joblo.com/newsimages1/0820wolverine.jpgIt's a story that could have been written for the past two or three months - there's trouble on the set of X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE (http://joblo.com/upcomingmovies/movies.php?id=3007). It's something that hasn't been a well-kept secret as a lot of us in the web world have heard the rumors from down under. But now Hollywood Elsewhere is reporting on a specific instance to backup the rumors of Fox's unhappiness with the film. The report claims Fox head Tom Rothman is using his powers to override the word of director Gavin Hood. It seems Fox and Rothman aren't exactly happy with the WOLVERINE movie. While that might initially bum you out, their unhappiness with the film is a good thing. Fox has reportedly been very unhappy with the "dark" tone of the film and is actively working to try and make it more "family friendly." Right, because that worked so well with FANTASTIC FOUR...
Hollywood Elsewhere says that Hood left the set for a brief period of time only to return and see a large set for the film had been completely repainted to make it brighter and give it less of a dark and somber vibe. I would think that with the success of THE DARK KNIGHT and the Comic-Con footage (which featured Wolverine telling Sabretooth he was going to rip his "goddamn head" off), that they might opt for a darker feel. Now keep in mind that rumors of turmoil between Fox and Hood have been swirling for some time now and this is just one of the first leaked incidents to support those rumors. I'm sure as the project continues through editing and post-production we'll hear even more. Hopefully Fox will invite a few select journalists to some kind of pow-wow with Hood (perhaps in the edit bay) to help straighten all this out...

War and POW scenes should be pretty good. Thing is I'm just not that interested in the Weapon X area of Wolverine lore, I'd much rather see a Patch type storyline, but I guess it is an origin movie. But I'm in the same boat as everyone else with being pissed off about the mutants they're throwing in. I watched the first season of Friday Night Lights and the dude playing Gambit was actually pretty sweet, and could probably do the role really well in 5 years, but he just seems way too young right now. They have Emma Frost due for a role in the film which also makes no sense. The picture of Deadpool is just Ryan Reynolds with a red tank top on waving swords, he better get disfigured and wear the mask.
I've been let down by all of the X Men films so far aside from some really cool stuff in X2 so I can't get too excited about this.

Like Rouge not being able to fly or be super strong (granted they never brought up her sucking Ms. Marvel to death) Or Storm having an accent (she did in part one but by 2 & 3 it was gone) Or Nightcrawler being Mystiques son? Rogue was more of an origin story. Halle Berry did have an accent like you said but she could not pull it off. X2 didn't have time to get into Nightcrawlers whole story.
I understand changing some things. Like leather instead of spandex. But Mystique and Nightcrawler had the correct eyes. Why not Gambit?
Why not just have Professor X walking around the whole time?

I think Marvel's latest take on it is that the claws are part of his mutation and all that weapon X did was give him the adamantium.
Although now that I'm typing this and thinking about it, doesn't Stryker say that he gave him claws in the second x-men movie?
It's cool to see they put in so many mutant cameos (looks like little Storm in the trailer). I think a lot of fans expected more of that in the other movies but were a little disappointed.

Just a continuity error. Just because the Origins series wrapped before X2 did doesn't mean they were using it as source material.

It pretty much explains how the movie will follow the comics. Sabretooth is Wolverines older half-brother, who kills (so wolverine things...not actually the case) his love interest silverfox for interfering.

This is my problem with making movies like this "family-friendly." Any punk ass kid going to see this movie wasn't around when it was cool to trade marvel cards, watch the X-men tv show, or collect X-Men or Wolverine comic books. They'd rather watch whateverthefuck garbage is on Cartoon Network today...or whatever kids watch now. So, however they make this movie is what kids will identify with. For that reason, I say fuck the little kids.
I'm under the impression that the people who want to see this movie dark and close to the story line are aging dorks AND the target audience for the movie. (Or at least should be) I still think Wolvie is the most badass and gritty out of all comic book characters. (If not at least X-men) I hope they don't blow this. Then again, I'm just a whiny aging dork. Start milking the cash cow, Fox....

An "Origin" line of films defeats the purpose. Most "Origin" movies suck. It's only when the character is up and running that shit actually starts happening. Thank Christopher Nolan for that... One director managed to do it correctly (batman begins), and now every studio thinks they can fucking do it for every character.. some characters can't have origins done properly..

Ive said this for years. Its because prequels fit some marketability equation production studios factor in when determining 'what will get more watchers, sequel, spinoff or prequel'.
I fucking hate prequels alltogether. Its the lazy way of not expanding a story out of fear of fucking the story up further (which doesnt work, as can be shown by the Star Wars prequels, or Star Trek Enterprise).
Hope you BSG fans loved your show, because its already in line for a prequel series.

Actually, the last one used a lot of Joss Whedon's X-Men run. But yeah, it's to be expected with characters 30-70 years old that they won't necessarily use any direct references.

Angel? He wasn't a teenager, Ben Foster is 28.
In the movies he was a teen who was also in love with a teen Rouge, who's storyline of how she got her powers is by far one of the best in X-Men, yet they don't even touch the story and just make her a girl born with the powers, and there not even her right powers.

what X-Men movies are you watching? b/c what you just described didnt happen in any of the movies. Angel was only in X-Men 3 (as a young adult - not a teen), neither he nor Rouge were big characters in it and their stories didnt intertwine at all.

1) The first link Will-Kill posted (the zshare.net one) is only 50 minutes long. Is that all the movie that they have out?
2) Celt...about Deadpool. Did they rape it because he doesn't act like Wad Wilson...or he doesn't act like "Deadpool"??? I read an interview with Ryan about how it's an origin, so the Deadpool in the movie isn't the Deadpool we all know and love.

They really didn't "mess up" Venom. The way he was portrayed was halfway accurate...they just didn't give him enough time.
In this movie, Deadpool has even less screentime than Venom. His origin is fucked up, his character is fucked up, then they go and fuck his character up so god damn bad that he will offically never be able to be on the big screen, unless they cast someone completely different and reboot it...which would suck because Reynolds really would be the perfect WW.

The studio said it had the file removed, but copies quickly propagated and continue to appear on several file-sharing Web sites. The movie focuses on the beginnings of Hugh Jackman's clawed Marvel superhero Wolverine and is set for a May 1 release.Fox vowed in a statement Wednesday that the source of the "stolen, incomplete and early version" of the movie would be prosecuted and said the FBI and MPAA are investigating. The studio also insisted that the version of the film posted online was "was without many effects, had missing and unedited scenes and temporary sound and music."

Can't deadpool reattach parts of his limbs to himself and as such cannot be killed?
He has survived being decapitated, though his head did not regenerate; it was simply replaced and healed back to his torso.[53] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadpool_(comics)#cite_note-52) Deadpool can also come back from the dead, as a direct result of his healing ability. The reason for this is unknown.[54] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadpool_(comics)#cite_note-53)

Unless you didnt read the books it isnt much of a spoiler. How much more can Hollywood fuck up a good franchise?

By the looks of this there was no reason for them to pick the Deadpool character to fill this role in the story. They should of just made up a mutant.

Deadpool was killed and brought back a bunch of times in the comics. I'm sure we will see him again in another xmen/wolverine sequel
I watched The Last Stand on the flight out here. You talk about fucking up a character. There's no way Deadpool is treated worse than Phoenix, who apparently has the awesome power of making furniture levitate.

I think it'll still hit $80 million + opening weekend. Box Office is red hot right now and the general public isn't as aware of the leak/bad early word as the internet folk are.

Then again, I haven't seen a lot of hype for this movie in general.
Most major movies have a bazillion leaders and teases and trailers and previews and whatever else before the release. I know that I'm no TMJ, but the even existence of this movie in general almost snuck up on me.
Fans come out in droves for Harry Potter, or Iron Man, or Twilight or Spiderman... why? Because the movie is advertised. I haven't seen anything about this movie anywhere.
X-Men 2, X-Men 3, they were advertised all over the place. This? Nothing.
It's going to be a weak showing, and it damn well should be, and once Trek is released, it's only going to get worse.

There is a new Wolverine style/flavor slushie? I am both intrigued and repulsed by that. I love a cool refreshing slushie on a nice warm day but I always associate Wolverine as being a short extremely hairy killing machine. That is pretty savvy of the marketing team for Wolverine though. The slushie crowd is a powerful group and we are many.

I still dont get why people think Star Trek will open so big. Reboots make some money after opening weekend with good word of mouth. I can see Star Trek's opening weekend #'s making half of what Wolverine does. Batman Begins, Casino Royal, Superman Returns all had very sub par opening weekends when compared to summer blockbusters. Plus, it wasnt like previous Star Trek movies did amazing box office numbers.
