Strasburg at #1, Ackley at #2, then who knows.

I'd like Tyler Matzek or Matt Purke at #9, but they want Porcello money+.

According to multiple team sources, several of the draft's best high school players blew them away when they revealed their price tags. California lefthander Tyler Matzek, the best prep prospect in the draft, wants "precedent-setting money," which is interpreted to mean that he wants to surpass the record $7 million guarantee for a high schooler given to Josh Beckett and Rick Porcello. Texas righthander Shelby Miller, previously believed to be signable for around MLB's bonus recommendations, is asking for $4 million.

New Jersey outfielder Mike Trout (upwards of $2.5 million), Texas outfielder Slade Heathcott (upwards of $2 million), Florida third baseman Bobby Borchering ($2 million) and North Carolina catcher Wil Myers ($2 million) all want top-10-pick money. Oklahoma southpaw Chad James seeks $1.75 million. Previously, Missouri righty Jacob Turner and Texas lefty Matt Purke alluded to Porcello money, while Georgia outfielder Donavan Tate will cost $6 million or more.

I've see Purke be the biggest wildcard. Could go top 10...could fall to the bottom of Round 1.

I wish the Tigers could draft a fully developed left-handed hitting corner outfielder with 30 HR power.

Dontrelle Willis is already on the team

I read
1. Nationals- Strasburg
2. Mariners- Ackley
3. Padres- Tate
4. Pirates- Sanches (Pre-Draft Deal)
5. Orioles- Hobgood/Wheeler
6. Giants- Wheeler if Orioles take Hobgood
7. Braves- Minor
8. Reds- White
9. Tigers- Someone better than 4-8, depending on how much money they want to spend.
10. Nationals- Soren

I'd love to see the Orioles take a collegiate pitcher, a proven, older player, like Crow.

People who say Strasburg should be put in the majors this year are idiots. They have nothing to gain by rushing him, all they can do is risk his health/mental makeup.

I disagree completely. He only has a finite amount of innings in his arm. Why waste them in the minors?

All I can hope for is that PitchFX and similar technology becomes more widespread and people start scouting something other than physical build and fastball speed (at least publically).

Because throwing too large an inning load at a young age is like #1 with a big shiny, bolded bullet in reasons for injury. You control someone in the minors where they throw exactly how much you want at the speed you want and you protect the arm as they learn to pitch.

have you ever seen him pitch though? more than half his pitches are way the fuck out of the strike zone. boy needs some command.

They say his mechanics and his arm aren't going to hold up. That's what I've read in a few different places.

Besides, he's only going to sign the day of the deadline. Fuck it, they should bring him up April 15th or so next year and be done with it.

i remember when people talked about lincecum the same way. "oh, his mechanics are going to ruin his arm! he won't last!" fuck them. don't they look like fools now.

You throw him out there immediately you destroy his arm and get a year or two out of him. If you nurture his arm in the minors a bit you still get a year or two out of him but then you get to trade him (as the Nats).

Ya, Mark Prior agrees.

Lincecum didn't gain 15 MPH on his fastball. That puts a whole ton of extra strain on an arm that hadn't had it previously.

Do they? He's had one great season and is having a 2nd. That's hardly a proven injury-free career.

I said I think they should shut him down or have him throw an outing or two after he signs (minors). Then, bring him back next year, and wait for the deadline to get that extra year under control, and bring him up for good once it passes.

prior to his first great season was a good season.

prior to his first great season was a good season.

150 innings of 4 ERA ball is nice, yes. But I still don't get the people who were orgasming after his season last year that he should suddenly be counted among the best pitchers in baseball. Given his continued success this year, maybe he's earning it, but he ain't there yet.

The point is this, whether his time with the Nats ends with injury or a trade they're only going to get maybe 3 years of actual pitching at the ML level out of him. The only question is whether they want him ending that time as a valuable, mature, proven talent worth loads of prospects/youngsters or as a broken former #1 everyone remembers and laughs about in articles the next time a #1 prospect is getting hyped for a draft.

Ugh I hate seeing the O's drafting High School pitchers in the top 5. Top 5 should be can't miss college type guys. Personally I was hoping for Crow.

Now the O's have 4 - 5 years before this kid will come up if he ever even does.
