A few details...

The latest issue of Game Informer features a cover story on Max Payne 3 (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3170539), and as is so often the case in this age of new media, a few details about the new game have trickled to the web. As Shacknews reports (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/59092), Max Payne 3 will be set 12 years after Max Payne 2 (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=2011661), and it takes place in Sao Paulo, Brazil. As the cover image (http://gameinformer.com/News/Story/200906/N09.0609.1800.43633.htm) for Game Informer reveals, Max has let himself go a little bit since last we saw him, now sporting a bald head and a scruffy beard. Evidently Max moved to Sao Paulo to escape "the demons from New York," where he now works in private security for a wealthy family. He's also addicted to painkillers, which ties into the gameplay in some unspecified way.
Like any respectable shooter today, Max Payne 3 will also feature a cover system, although it's "not the focus of the game." Rockstar's Rob Nelson explains it'll still play very similarly to the past Max Payne titles, as they took "the elements of traditional Max and expanded it out so the game becomes gun ballet, or gun-fu, or whatever you want to call it."
A few other details: The game will use Rockstar's RAGE engine (seen in Grand Theft Auto 4 (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3150593)), it'll have highly destructible environments, and it'll feature online multiplayer, although details for it weren't revealed.
Max Payne 3 is set for release on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 in winter of 2009.

I loved the RAGE engine so hopefully they go all out on the graphics and make the gameplay more Splinter Cell Conviction-esque (Less Bullet-Time, more run and gun).

Put a big circle around November and December on your calendars because Max is back!
The new Game Informer has Max Payne on its cover! Yep - that grizzled, angry, mess of a man is Max himself 12 years after Max Payne 2. (http://www.theguiltygeek.com/%3Cbr?PHPSESSID=39c9cb2e1faae47f8238b9dd98b6dec9%2 0/%3Ehttp://gameinformer.com/News/Story/200906/N09.0609.1800.43633.htm)

Game Informer has released a slew of information, and obviously confirmation, about Max Payne 3. What kind of information you ask? Well for one, it is scheduled for Winter 09 for PC, PS3, and 360!

Apparently, Max has moved away from New York City after the previous events. He now works as a private security guard for a big shot, wealthy family in Sao Paulo, Brazil 12 years after the 2nd game.

The past has done enough damage to him, clearly seen in the front cover art, and it will affect the gameplay. For example, he is addicted to painkillers which were how you gained health in the previous games. This will somehow come into play but no information on how was given. Of course, bullet time will make a come back but reworked and expanded so it is kind of like a "gun ballet" says Rockstar. There will also be fully destructible environments, a cover system, and human shields.

To top the cake off, the game will be running off the Grand Theft Auto 4's RAGE engine and most of the action will take place in Sao Paulo's ghettos.

We can't wait to hear and see more of Max Payne's new adventure.
