While our sources had suggested it wouldn't be until next year's Game Developer's Conference that we heard about the next evolution of the Xbox 360, we've actually received some confirmation well ahead of next March. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer spoke today at The Executive's Club of Chicago and confirmed that a new Xbox 360 will be released in the fall of 2010. Ballmer didn't come right out and reveal all the details, but he made a number of allusions to the details that suggest this is the Xbox Natal that we reported (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3174762) on late last week. According to TG Daily (http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/42904/118/), Ballmer claimed the system carries technology "really, really close" to becoming a reality, has a "natural interface," and includes a camera that can sense both movement and voice.
None of what he discussed mentioned the current hardware being beefed up, but with more than 15 months between now and next fall, plenty of time remains for further details to be announced.
