In-demand hip-hop producer Timbaland is making a rock and roll crossover. On Ryan Seacrest (http://www.people.com/people/ryan_seacrest)'s "On Air" radio show Thursday, it was announced that he is producing Chris Cornell's third solo album.

"This is the best work I've done in my career," Timbaland told Seacrest. And Cornell – a former member of Audioslave and, most famously, Soundgarden – was equally enthusiastic about the collaboration. Said Cornell: "This is the most excited I've been about an album in years. The music is natural, not self-conscious ... open."

Predicting Cornell will be the "first rock star in the club", Timbaland says he's currently mixing the album, and hopes to release it within a month. No title or released date has been confirmed.

In February, guests at PEOPLE's pre-Grammy party at the Avalon in Los Angeles got an early taste of Cornell's new music – as the rocker performed a song at the bash, which featured Timbaland and a fleet of his former collaborators including Missy Elliott. Timbaland has also famously worked with Justin Timberlake (http://www.people.com/people/justin_timberlake) and Nelly Furtado on their recent projects.

As long as the music doesn't suck ridiculously, I guess it doesn't matter who produces it. Although I doubt it will sound much like Temple of the Dog with oonst...oonst....oonst in the background.

Well, I'll definitely download it. I suppose we'll see.

But Timbaland works with everyone. Whats the big deal anymore?

Its like if Pam Anderson got married again. Its not really news when it happens all the time.

Most of Timabaland's shit make the girls smile when I roll-up at the corner. He's doin' something right.

Can't be any worse than his solo project. Aside from the Casino Royale theme the rest was a waste of a torrent download.

I'm just wondering what angry minority Cornell has planned for his next album.

It can't be Carlos Santana, he is just too happy.

Tim, nobody wants anyone to get hurt, so just calm down, keep it cool, AND PUT DOWN THE VOCODER. THAT'S RIGHT. Nice and easy...JUST DROP IT AND KICK IT TO THE SIDE.

You know, Timbaland knows the way to reach the top of the charts. Maybe if Chris Cornell works with him he can perfect the art.

Also, in that picture, Timbaland looks like a black Little Stevie from the E-street Band. And I don't mean that in a complimentary manner.

I think I see what you did there. Clever.

This is going to be pretty bad ass. Cornell has said that it has a pinkfloyd sound to the album.

Some of us like it, so yes. Different strokes for different folks. If we all liked the same msuic, the world would be a boring place.

i dig cornell a lot. the fall of audioslave really disappointed me, mainly because i think rage against the machine is played out. they're only coming back because the world is a shittier place than before they left so zach has something to whine about... the rest of the band, especially tom morello, should have stayed with cornell.

timbaland's work on this project is significant. ross robinson has been known for producing some of the greatest metal albums of all time, mainly because he was able to ellicit that kind of energy and emotion out of his artists. it can't be said that a producer's job isn't important, because it is. timbaland's success to date is a good indicator that his production skills (more than just hitting knobs, switches and sliders) are among the best in the business.

i suspect this album is going to be pretty good, probably unlike any of cornell's previous works.

What a shocker, just as a new album comes out a member involved insists its the best stuff evar. What are the odds? And I'll bet the next album Timbaland works on will be "the best stuff I've ever done".

I still say ZDLR was broke, and no one likes working with him except these 3 guys for some strange reason. If they still were in it for anything but touring money, they'd be working on a new album.

If there's a single stuttering Timbaland vocal track on this album, it's not worth it.

Wasn't Timbo supposed to have released that "Clash of the Titans" album with Dre like 6 years ago?

Speaking of which, what happened to Detox?

And it should be. The day he doesn't say his newest is his best is the day that he's plateaued as an artist/producer; he'll have reached the pinnacle of what he's able to accomplish. That's a sad day in anyone's career: "sorry, I've reached the point where I can get no better." I understand what you're saying (he's feeding into the hype machine), but I think Timbaland could have retired after working with Madonna/Timberlake/Rihanna/etc., never produced again, and still lived off the bank. So I think it's as much about being at the top of his game as a producer as it is about making that dough.

Dre and people he works with claim the album's coming out in November to coincide with Dre's line of various boozes.

I gave up on waiting for Detox long ago. If you dont expect it to come out, you cant be irritated when it gets pushed back for the 200th time. In 40 years time my grandchildren are gonna come to me and tell me Detox is coming out soon. I'll just smile knowingly and tell them to pick me up a copy.

Timbaland should work with Hasselhoff!

I'm psyched for the album. I'm sure it will be great. Don't know about the Timbaland hype, with Cornell's skill and unique voice any retard could produce a successful album for him.

I saw Chris Cornell in concert this past weekend and he preformed one of the new songs. I cannot tell you how horrible it was. It was like watching someone sell out before your eyes. Dumb lyrics, ridiculous hook, unnecessary beats. Really horrific. Its like Soundgarden got raped by britney spears.
