LaBeouf Back on Transformers Set Thursday
Source: Entertainment Tonight, Film School Rejects August 14, 2008
Both Entertainment Tonight and Film School Rejects are reporting that Shia LaBeouf is returning to the set of Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on Thursday.
Shia and his passenger/co-star Isabel Lucas were hit in the early morning hours of July 27 by another driver who had run a red light in Los Angeles. LaBeouf underwent surgery on his hand to repair damage caused by the accident. Reports in late July said that it would take a month before LaBeouf would be back on set, but that appears not to be the case.
DreamWorks/Paramount is targeting a June 26, 2009 release for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
More Megan Fox, less Shia La Suck. I hated the first Transformers except for Megan Fox and Bernie Mac. She better get naked in this one.

I've got a problem with the title because you've got this verb that you associate with violent activity and this noun that makes me think of immobility. It's like calling it "Transformers 2: Carnage of the Reclined".

Yeah, too bad there will be way more Shia LeBeouf than actual robots.
Draven X 23
08-21-2008, 10:18 PM
Well of course. Robots are expensive to make. Shia isn't because he is real... kinda.
More Megan Fox isn't a bad thing though.
nuclearjew
08-21-2008, 10:22 PM
I don't think it's a matter of expense, it's more of a matter of the studios thinking that people can't handle 90 minutes of robots without too much humanity. Just like how Spider-Man only wears his mask for 15 minutes in each movie...the audience has to constantly be reminded that you're watching Tobey Maguire. It sucks.
And that link for "The Fallen" sounds completely convoluted, this movie will suck if they follow that plot.
Although the Fallen's origins are only suggested in his comic book appearance, they would be fully explained in Dorling Kindersley's Transformers: The Ultimate Guide. One of the original thirteen Transformers created by Primus, the robot who would become the Fallen betrayed his creator by siding with Primus's dark twin, the malevolent planet-eater, Unicron. In the final battle between Primus and Unicron, the Fallen fell victim to the same fate as his master, sucked through a black hole into another dimension. However, while Unicron emerged into another universe, the Fallen was not so fortunate, finding himself trapped in the "underspace" between dimensions.
It'd be cool if this movie got trapped in the underspace.
Draven X 23
08-21-2008, 10:26 PM
I thought Tobey only wears the mask because he wants more face time on screen. Like Topher did with Venom.

Just to offer another opinion here. For a guy who grew up with Transformers as a kid, I'm actually excited about this. Granted, Michael Bay is hit-or-miss with his blockbusters, and Megan Fox definitely wore too many clothes in most of that movie, and Optimus Prime saying "My bad" every two seconds was mildly irritating...
Alright, fine. Transformers kinda sucked...
There I said it.
Regardless, it'll be interesting. I MIGHT have the urge to actually buy a ticket to go see it. Especially if there's more Starscream in the next one and he stays an F-22A for that one.

Only one of these has a "kick ass guarantee". Also, this poster, unlike "Revenge of the Fallen" prominently features human tongue. In addition, I draw the jury's attention to the Jon Voight-less quality of this picture; unlike "Revenge", this film is Jon Voight-less.

I really dont get what sucked about this as a movie... without specific examples.. i have to say you are just hating because its "the in thing to do".
No. I hated it because it wasted 2 hours of my life. It was fucking terrible. Terrible writing, terrible boring script, Shia La Bouf. It's probably the worst movie I've ever seen in theaters. Michael Bay made yet another turd. I expect the same from the 2nd one.

What about the story did you not like. I thought it worked and I understood it completely. I just don't see how you make a movie about transforming robots hiding as cars into a more serious movie. The movie was as good as the idea let it be.
I can't hate a movie because I thought it sucked and it bored me to death? 10 minutes I couldn't wait for it to be over. I didn't like anything about it. The stupid kid with hsi robot friends, him hiding them from his parents, John Tuturo and his task force, I could go on. It fucking sucked.

i liked it.. it was mindless action flick with some humor and a hot chick thrown in... typical Michael Bay movie... chances are if you dont like any of Bay's other movies, you would not like Transformers
Bay's last two films
The Island - action flick with random appearance by Buscemi (humor) and Johanssen (hot chick)
Bad Boys 2 - action flick with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence (humor) and Gabrielle Union (hot chick)
its a formula that has lent itself to making a shit ton of money... why change it to appease a minority of people who dont like that kind of movie?

One half of the writing duo of the upcoming TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN, Robert Orci, has been kind enough to answer questions about the flick over at the TFW2005 messageboards. The thread is currently at 82 pages but the moderators have been cool enough to put a whole bunch of questions and answers at the beginning. Here's a small little taste:
Q: Mr. Orci, by going at the lenght of the script, is there any small indication at all about what the runtime of the sequel will be? Also: I think you can answer this one safely. Is Ratchet coming back?
A: Going by the length of the script can be tricky because the action is longer in reality than on the page. We're trying to keep it to two hours, but I get a feeling it'll be about the same as movie 1. Ratchet could be on assignment in Alpha Centauri. Who knows?
Q: With all this news about Icecream twins, "Wheels" and so forth, I'm a bit worried that we won't get to see very many new "Classics" characters. Should I be worried?
A: Slightly -- but there will be plenty for die hards.
Q: How many country will receive visitors from space? From what we know by now, france chinaand united states will be there,is there anymore? Will there is any chance we'll get a teaser trailer before the end of the year? How many title ,before the choice of revenge of the fallen, were in the race?
A: The story for part 2 is more global, for sure. Teaser will surely come out before the end of the year. None. Alex Kurtzman came up with the title, and it was the only one we put up on the cover of the script.[/color]
Read the rest of it over HERE (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-movie-discussion/180451-welcome-mr-robert-orci-you-may-ask-him-questions.html). The Fallen gets his revenge on June 26th of next year.

http://mos.totalfilm.com/images/t/transformers-2-concept-art-online-800-75.jpg
Some likely new concept art from Transformers sequel Revenge Of The Fallen has been shoved online.
While we’re hesitant to call anything here 100% official, the new image of Megatron (who we hear is dredged up from the ocean floor to aid the Autobots in fighting a new, worse threat) certainly ties in with current information.
This time around, it looks like the evil robot menace will transform into a tank - and you can see all the images in the thumbnails at the bottom of this post, just click on them for the larger images.
Ravage
Less successful, in our Transformers-loving opinion is the look of what is being labelled Ravage.
Fans of the original Transformers ‘toons will know that Ravage is the panther-like ‘bot who travelled as a tape contained within fellow Decepticon Soundwave, alongside Laserbeak and who usually preferred to stay in his animalistic form.
And though he certainly looks nasty here, he also seems more than a little designed.
Of course, these could both be smokescreens generated by Michael Bay’s paranoia department, but the leaks are starting to become more regular. Now we just need a trailer. Or an official pic. Come on Mike – how about it?

Shia wasn't bad for the role beacuse they needed a pathetic whiney bitch that needed the robots to protect him. If they had some alpha male playing his role it wouldn't have worked.
I liked the movie for what it was, mind numbing entertainment. it wasn't and Oscar worthy movie, it wasn't full of bone chilling suspense. It was a movie about robots and shit blowing up, it covered both very well, thus making it a good movie for what it was.
It really seems that people who didn't like this movie were either expecting way to much from this movie, expecting some sort of award winning movie (haha) or take themselves way to seriously and just can't enjoy a movie for what it was.
I'll see this, not sure if in theaters or download, but I will probably like it again for what it is.

Trailer is supposed to be out soon. Its either going to air during the Super Bowl, or it will be attached to a movie in Feburary. Most likely during the Super Bowl, from what I have heard so far.

What's also funny is that I have no doubt in my mind that Michael Bay will have some sort of corny joke in the finished film that pokes fun at Lebouf's drunk-driving mishap.

I could give a rats behind about the cleavage or the overly stylized robots.

pffff Michael Bay's Terminator is way cooler than McG's.
Holy Fucktards.
Bigger, brawnier and better – much better – than its predecessor, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” fucking dominates a mediocre summer.
The script is less silly this time around, though Bay’s sense of humor remains childish and mildly racist. But from an action standpoint, “Revenge of the Fallen” is unmatched. It's smoother. Bay actually pulls his camera back and keeps it (relatively) stationary so we can appreciate the AMAZING robot creations. I'm a jaded fuck, and even I uttered "Holy shit" at least three times. This is the quintessential Michael Bay film, and I mean that as a high compliment.
In a summer season that promises an “event” picture every weekend, Bay’s “Transformers” sequel is the first to deliver the goods.

What did you guys think about the pacing of the movie? I can't really comment since I haven't seen it, but a lot of early reviews have been complaining that after the first hour, the movie drags.
I want to just chalk it up to people being ADD-riddled retards who have to have shit blow up every 5 minutes to keep their attention.
Just wanted y'alls take.
I'd kind of agree. It's way too long. But all of Bay's movies are too long. And the humor is aimed at retards. But again, nothing new. However, the action is unreal. Bay steps it up. So, credit where credit's due. But yeah, you feel the film's length. Dude needs to make a 90-minute motherfucker. I'm not sure he's capable.

Well..... Its established Obama is the President of the United States not some fictional character. So when its the Presidential Order that the N.E.S.T. be shut down and that turns out to be the wrong this to do, Obama and his staff are not very likeable.
But ...
All of Bay's movies need a government/administrative stooge for the director to belittle. See Jon Voight (T1), Joey Pantolaino (the Bad Boys films), William Fichter (Armageddon) and John Spencer (The Rock). It's not politics with Bay. It's pure formula!

The story made sense to me, but I'm a huge TF nut so I know the idea behind the Fallen and TF lore, convoluted as it is, it does have structure. It's a good sequel, huge body count, had way too many loose ends at the end. Be sure Transformers 3 will happen, with or without Bay.
damn, prime fucked some shit up, then got his shit fucked up, then proceeded to fuck more shit up
you really just can't keep a good optimus down

I think I am the only one who didnt go for the GI Joe vs Transformers ending.
But Bay always has a HUGE military presence, Celt. Soldiers fought robots at the end of the first one, too.
And what is "convoluted" about the plot? Bad robots want a shard of the Allspark. Good robots try and stop them. Boom.
Did I miss anything?

Here is my issue with everything.... and this is coming from someone who really liked the first Transformers and Bad Boys 2.....
Everything that made the first movie work isn’t in there.
The humor in the first was there, but it was only certain characters like Mom, Dad and Agent Simmons. I guess some Bumblebee. Transformers 2 it seemed to be pushed way past the limit. Everyone is in there for comedy. I understand the Bay comedy element, but I don’t need every character.
The story structure was terrible. I don’t care about length (it’s like 10 minutes longer than the first) and I don’t care about the plot bc it’s a popcorn flick. I care that there was no threat. I didn’t care for the villain, which to me wasn’t thought of as a "the" villain simply bc he was some robot bitch who kept pushing the point that he will have revenge. Big woop to his flashback scene. Really boring. No threat what so ever.
As for the Autobot Transformers, in the first movie, they were actual characters. They were involved in moving the plot forward. They had consecutive lines of dialogue. They were almost human. You cared when Bumblebee was captured in the original. Now, it’s like they are just giant robots shooting things. Again, boring.
I am not looking for perfection. The first one was no where near perfect. Just a little consistency. In Transformers 1, US military had no effect on the robots. With RotF, and not including the demise of the Devastator, USA guns and tanks and bombs all do the job just fine.
That stuff bugs me. I can give a shit about the continuity of Shia’s bandages showing up throughout the movie. I can care less about the racist robots. I can deal with Meghan Fox not looking hot with her slow motion tits bouncing off her chin. I can deal with the Terminator who made its way into the film. I can deal with Green Day songs. It’s a popcorn flick. I just ask make me say “ooh that was cool” instead of “that was awkward and silly.”

A review on MSN.com. I haven't seen the movie yet, but if this holds any truth... Hrm.
Transformers': Nothing Meets the EyeJames Rocchi, Special to MSN Movies
http://entimg.msn.com/i/rev/msnReviewLogo.gif In 2007's "Transformers (http://movies.msn.com/movies/movie/transformers/)," director Michael Bay (http://movies.msn.com/celebrities/celebrity/michael-bay/) (who is also responsible for "Pearl Harbor (http://movies.msn.com/movies/movie/pearl-harbor.2/)" and "Armageddon (http://movies.msn.com/movies/movie/armageddon.4/)") brought the Hasbro toy line to the big screen in the perfect marriage of plastic, mass-production subject and plastic, mass-production director. "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (http://movies.msn.com/movies/movie/transformers-revenge-of-the-fallen/)" brings Bay, his armada of effects technicians and his cast back to continue the Earth-bound battle between two rival groups of alien robots who can disguise themselves as vehicles so as to better hide among us. Based on a mythology created to rev up the promotion and profits between a toy line and an animated show during the '80s, "Transformers" was big and dumb and loud and fake, full of slapdash storytelling and special effects that leapt off the screen and clawed at your retinas in the hope of distracting you from just how badly made the movie was. "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is not as bad as "Transformers"; somehow, in the face of long odds, it is actually worse.
Where the first film was desperate, this one is desperate and sad. Where the first film sent mixed messages about ethnic and racial groups and women, this one is overtly racist and sexist. Where the first "Transformers" was clumsy, "Revenge of the Fallen" is paralyzed with its own stupidity. I literally could not stop laughing out loud during "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" -- not at the moments intended as comedy, which are not funny in any way, but rather at Bay's superhuman ability to look at his own film and not see that it's nothing but broken bits, desperate distractions and empty explosions. (I can imagine Bay braying "Wonderful! Cut! Print!" after every scene regardless of its quality, Ed Wood (http://movies.msn.com/celebrities/celebrity/edward-d-wood-jr/) with hundreds of millions of dollars, not just hundreds.) Screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman wrote this summer's fun, smart, breezy "Star Trek (http://movies.msn.com/movies/movie/star-trek/)"; alongside Ehren Kruger, they're credited with the screenplay for "Revenge of the Fallen." How can one of these things be so good and one of them be so bad? Look to the director's chair, and who makes the ultimate decision about what goes onscreen and why, and you'll get that Bay has no interest in character or story or real excitement or any aspect of moviemaking that's built on anything more than the retinal equivalent of a sugar rush.
And, to deal with the token objections of the film's defenders, I have an inner child; he's just not an inner idiot. And if how much money something made had any correlation to how good it actually is, doctors would recommend you get more cocaine instead of more leafy greens. And no, I can't shut my brain off and have fun, anymore than I could rip out my tongue and enjoy a meal, because my brain is where I feel fun. And I could talk about the plot and characters and performances of "Revenge of the Fallen," but why should I care about those things when it's so clear that Bay doesn't? Many will walk out of "Revenge" praising the action and the special effects, but they'll be indicating that they don't know what they're talking about. The action is badly cut, confusing and incoherent, with no sense of space or distance or dynamism aside from close-ups of brutal blows and long shots of explosions. The effects are either too swift to be truly seen (Wasn't one of the pleasures of the Transformers toys slllllllowly ... clicking ... each change into place?) or so phony you can't bear to look (like when walking big-rig Optimus Prime, a giant multiton mass of metal, moves and fights with the lithe lightness of a 12-year-old gymnast). "Revenge of the Fallen" isn't good; it's just expensive, and while Michael Bay can't tell the difference between those things, a reasonably intelligent person can.
And I haven't even begun to talk about the racist-caricature robots of "The Twins," who speak in thug slang and "aren't much for reading" and talk about getting "up in that ass," and one of whom has, I wish I were kidding, a gold tooth. Or about how when the film isn't drooling over Megan Fox (http://movies.msn.com/celebrities/celebrity/megan-fox/)'s poreless, lifeless form and visage, it's busy calling women "bitches" and throwing around "pussy" as an insult. Or how Shia LaBeouf (http://movies.msn.com/celebrities/celebrity/shia-labeouf/)'s "performance" has him spend half the film doing third-rate Danny Kaye tricks to depict mental freak-out and the other half running in slow motion yelling "Optimus!" If Bay wanted to make a big, epic science-fiction battle, he failed by adapting a toy and television series made for kids; if he wanted to make a family-friendly adventure, he failed by larding it with violence and sex and smutty "humor" and dog-humping sight gags. Transforming robots can be two very different things, through the miracle of special effects, but Bay's bloated blockbuster wants to flip between high-octane action and fizzy-fun kids stuff and winds up failing at both. If you tell me you loved "Revenge of the Fallen" -- really, truly, loved it without reservation or complaint -- then you've essentially told me you can't tell something from nothing, good from bad, craft from cost. The best thing about "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is that it's perhaps the funniest movie of the year (Oh, look, Optimus Prime's fallen robo-corpse is being lain to rest at sunset, waaaah-wwwwwwanh, sad-trom-bone ...). The worst thing is that ticket-buying masses will shower stupid spectacle with success one more time because they don't want, need or expect anything better from big Hollywood.

His review is what a good chunk of critics are saying though. I'm reading terrible review after terrible reviews from critics.
Yet the masses are all walking out drooling on themselves, kicking each other in the crotch saying "NOMG ROBOTS AND BOOM AND POW AND AWWESOME"
With that being said...I'm TOTALLY going to the theatre this weekend!!!

Michael Bay must know the feeling. In making a movie that's literally about toys -- "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" -- the director had access to a reported $200 million budget, the high-tech talents of Industrial Light & Magic and the It performers Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, reprising their roles from 2007's "Transformers."
Audiences, so far, have been excited. Fandango.com, the movie ticket-selling Web site, reported that it sold out more than 2,000 midnight and wee-hours showings of the film, which opened Wednesday.
MovieTickets.com, another ticket-selling site, reported that "Transformers" had broken into its list of the top 20 pre-sellers of all time, ahead of films such as "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/img/2.0/mosaic/tabs/video.gif Watch the Transformers make their change » (http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Movies/06/24/transformers.reviews/index.html#cnnSTCVideo)
Passions have been running so high that a New York iReporter said (http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-281195) that police shut down a Manhattan theater Tuesday because the waiting crowd -- which had been gathering for hours -- started getting out of hand.
But there's one group that's not impressed: those traditional killjoys, movie critics.

EW: Q&A with Megan Fox (http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2009/06/more-from-our-megan-fox-interview.html?cnn=yes)
The film is earning a 21 percent rating at the review-aggregation site RottenTomatoes.com (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/transformers_revenge_of_the_fallen/), marking it as one of the most poorly reviewed films of the year. (At rival Metacritic.com, it's not doing much better, with a score of 42 out of 100.) But what's really striking is the vitriol with which some critics are attacking "Transformers," to wit:
• Eric Childress, eFilmCritic.com: "The single worst film to be released thus far in the summer of 2009."
• Peter Bradshaw, The (UK) Guardian: "Like watching paint dry while getting hit over the head with a frying pan."
• Manohla Dargis, The New York Times: "Cretinous."
• Steven Whitty, The Newark (New Jersey) Star-Ledger: "Can you thwart a migraine for two-and-a-half hours?"
CNN.com's Tom Charity didn't think much of it either (http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Movies/06/23/review.transformers.revenge/index.html).
Even some of the movie's hoped-for audience -- the fanboys who have admired Transformers since the toys first appeared in the 1980s -- weren't kind. One CNN staffer compared it to one of the all-time bombs, the George Lucas-produced "Howard the Duck." iReporter "davidseaman" called it "the worst movie I've ever seen." (http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-281656)
In a cheeky review, iReporter "Achiever" praised Bay "for his excessive use of the 360 spinning crane cam" and the frequent slow-motion shots of Megan Fox fleeing.
"I'm certain that scientists will be able to extrapolate many books on information in the field of boob jiggling," he wrote.
Of course, there were words of outright praise as well. Entertainment Weekly's Owen Gleiberman, who gave the movie a B, hailed the Transformer characters for having "wizardry and grandeur." Newsday's Rafer Guzman enjoyed Bay's "obvious delight" in making the film. And iReporter Rajiim Gross described the film as "awesome."
http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/img/2.0/content/ads/advertisement.gif
In the end, none of these lines will matter. The only line Bay, producer Steven Spielberg and other Hollywood execs are paying attention to is, of course, the bottom line.
The first "Transformers" made more than $300 million domestically. If "Revenge of the Fallen" gets into that neighborhood, it will be another indication that giant robots can be readily transformed into cold, hard box office cash.

Which is saying a lot.
Long story short: The Decepticons are back, fixed on destroying Sam (Shia LaBeouf), Optimus Prime and the Earth, in that order.
Produced by Hasbro -- the accompanying trailer for "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" suggests that the company's not-exactly-subtle strategy is to mass market war toys for boys -- "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is a grotesque exercise in hyperinflation. At 149 minutes, it's longer than "2001," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" or "Star Wars." In fact, this may be the emptiest epic ever made.
Director Michael Bay is famous for blowing things up, but you could invade a small country with less firepower than he expends on this extended-length commercial.
For all his sound and fury, Bay isn't much of an action director. There's no rhythm in his slam-bang cutting, no discipline in his orientation, and there's so little to distinguish an Autobot (the good Transformers) from a Decepticon (the bad) that at any given moment, it's a toss-up who is pulverizing who. http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/img/2.0/mosaic/tabs/interactive.gif A guide to the Transformers » (http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Movies/06/23/review.transformers.revenge/index.html#cnnSTCOther1)
Combat scenes are a bewildering blur of crunching metal. On top of that, the humans are essentially bystanders and onlookers here, so that LaBeouf's primary contribution to the fighting is to run away, duck and cover. It's the same deal for Megan Fox, only in lingering slow motion. http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/img/2.0/mosaic/tabs/video.gif Watch the Transformers do their thing » (http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Movies/06/23/review.transformers.revenge/index.html#cnnSTCVideo)
The Defense Department does get the opportunity to show off its hardware, even if most of the missile strikes fall wide of the mark -- probably because there aren't enough Decepticons to sustain heavy losses. If he ever needs another job, Bay should consider a move into arms procurement.
At least the nonstop carnage is on a scale to satisfy the demolition derby crowd, down to destroying one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The effects work is mostly rock-solid, and the Transformers themselves have a chromatic showroom gleam. As a kind of 21st-century Mechano movie, it could have hit the right buttons.

EW: Q&A with Megan Fox (http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2009/06/more-from-our-megan-fox-interview.html?cnn=yes)
It's not the extravagant fireworks display that rankles, it's everything else: the dull and pompous exposition, the trite characterizations, the tacky love story, the dismal comic relief and incongruous pretensions to the status of a popcorn epic.
Here's a sample of what Bay throws at the wall in the hope of generating some stray laughs: small dogs humping. Hysterical middle-aged women. Autobots with effeminate voices. A miniature Decepticon dry-humping Fox's leg. John Turturro improvising. Tasers. A cowardly Latino. A short Arab. Snails.
None of these things is funny. Not in this movie, anyway.
The truth is, Bay is a rotten fit for this assignment; he's much too self-important to recalibrate his approach for the younger audience this material demands.
Memo to Michael: It's a toy movie. Your audience is predominantly teen and pre-teen. My kids don't need to see your salivating soft-porn fantasies or your reactionary militaristic politics.
