What position do you play, and what do you think are your strengths?

Well, you're setting yourself up, but maybe I can just get it out of the way by saying, "We all know you're a catcher."

I played 2b/3b in HS and really whole life. I'd give myself a Chris Coghlan (but RH) comp. Both '85, grew up in MD, decent contact skills, good speed, gap power, reasonable defense.

I was an atrocious baseball player, so the coaches usually put me in right field where I had close to zero responsibility to field plays.

Growing up I always played second base sometimes third. Mostly second. I think because I was quick. All the responsibilty of shortstop, plus covering a base, none of the glory.

No kidding, I'm a catcher. If I'd played since I was ten, I might've played 3B or (more likely) RF, as my arm was always my biggest strength. I played back in HS but didn't pick up the game until I was 16. Since I couldn't hit I got moved to C pretty quickly (and I have the build for it anyways) I'm in college now and I'm spending a year getting in shape, and then I'm going out for the Baltimore Baseball League. I'm also in line for a job as a baseball sportswriter for a website (a paying job, no kidding) so baseball has kind of dominated my otherwise slow summer.

I was notorious in Little League for throwing people out at home plate from the outfield. And for never hitting a home run, but giving many kids injuries from balls hit fucking hard as hell.

It sucked, because in practice I could hit almost any ball thrown in my general direction to wherever I wanted, but in games, I could only hit the ball only once in a while, directly at the face of the pitcher or third basemen, which only proved to be fairly effective at making kids cry.

TiM catches. What a surprise.

I probably should've said RP. I doubt I could go more than 2-3 innings these days

What did you throw and at what level?

I pitched competitively from about 15-22

What did I throw? Like, what pitches?

I had a fastball, a curveball and a sinker. That was about it.

I played some center too, but only senior year, because I was the only one on the team that could cover enough ground. A lot of poor fucking athletes on that team. I played about as deep as possible, because I couldn't judge balls hit right at me for shit, and was always scared of the ball sailing over my fucking head.

I started playing 2nd base and LF, then pitched for most of my short, horrible career. I was one of those kids that was good enough to keep playing regularly, but not good enough to really...be any good.

Tis true for me as well.

Left-handed relief specialist. I was a starting pitcher through high school, but I had a two-seamer and a change up that no lefty could ever hit. My career highlight was a nine-inning complete game with 14 K's, but I fucked my arm up pretty badly during my sophomore year and wasn't really the same again until I gave it a full year off.

Starting Pitcher. I was a righty with 86-88mph Fastball and a curve that could make you fall over (happened a few times). Also had a slurve and a sick circle-change.

I had a couple D1 (6 D2) college scouts after me after Sophomore year, so that's a lie if they say they don't do that. Unfortunately for me I fucked my shoulder up hardcore before high school even started and after Sophomore year I couldn't pitch much anymore. So I went to my Primary Backup, Center (2.9 home-first time)

I don't really have much of an arm, but I have the speed to track down a lot of fly balls. I probably won't throw anybody out at the plate but I will make the catch in the gap to save runs

I never played anything higher than rec ball in like 5th grade. I struck out alot, and cried at least twice a season because I was so frustrated.

I pretended it was the adrenaline.

I was actually a pretty good defensive first baseman, if that means anything.

C/LF all the way through baseball. Didn't have a great arm for a catcher, but had great release and footwork that made up for it. Had the background as a hockey goaltender, so passed balls were rare.

Once baseball turned to softball (don't laugh, you dicks, it will happen to you, too), played left. As I have gotten slower, I play a lot more 1B now than LF, depending on how good the team is.

I never played all that much baseball as a kid. I have a reasonable glove and I'm tall, but chunky, I imagine I'm built to play first base and not much else.

Played anywhere in the outfield for my entire baseball career (7 yrs to ~20 yrs old). I'm left handed so they had me pitching a lot in the early years but I sucked ass at it. Played a lot of first base as well. My favorite position was center field. I was (I don't remember the last time I sprinted) fast so I could cover a lot of ground and I had a decent arm.
Batting lefty and being fast usually meant I was at the top of the batting order. I was always a base hitter, I only hit two home runs in my career.

Played SS all the way through HS. Fast, soft hands, no power ftw!

Does anyone know a good way to get your arm back in shape? I haven't thrown in three years and my arm is just killing me after a short while.

I always played first base being a big power guy. I wasn't a great fielder and not fast enough to play RF, so I was stuck at 1B since a young age. I love it, so no complaints.

Gotta ease your way in man. Lots of stretching and long tossing before you let any rip.

So does anyone know anything useful about getting your arm back into shape?

Back in high school we had a SS/ SP strain his shoulder. One of the old timers in the community had him throw a softball and waterlogged baseball. He took infield practice with the softball and threw bp with waterlogged baseballs. The old timer made him concentrate on mechanics and not throwing very hard. It seemed to work in that instance. I won't swear by it, it's just something to try.
The old dude said the heavy balls with a slighter throwing motion could be the same as rearing back and throwing heat.
