Discuss Fantasy Basketball in a non-league specific place.

Ask the self-proclaimed Fantasy Gurus for advice on trades, rosters, etc...

what does the guru think of arenas coming back from the knee?

I'm guessing Paul is #1 going into the year with how unbelievable he covers the stat sheet other than hurting in turnovers (but what player doesn't do that) and 3s.

right now, I'd say Kobe is a solid #3 overall pick for fantasy this year. Amare is probably going #2 seeing Shaq's presence has been greatly beneficial in nearly every offensive stat plus he'll get that PF/C eligibility, which is great. LeBron is probably the #4 pick.

for you NBA fanatics, Yahoo just opened up registration for the Fantasy season. for those in my GMF_H2H league last year, here's the info to sign up:

He says January at the latest, the team seems to think not at all. I'd avoid him unless you have the luxury of benching him all season with hopes of having him as a keeper for 2009-10.

And the Mo Williams trade?

He still doesn't play d

As far as the lottery, I'm down for it.

Pollo

right now here is what the top 4 picks should be (going by the playoff finish):

shdaow (50%)
ADD (30%)
ruff (15%)
Tua (5%)

I'll set odds for each person (if it's a go), but it will probably be the odds I have next to your name. you'll know the results of the lottery when we draft (just for the suspense).

I am setting up my rankings and Yahoo has Danny Granger ranked 11? How does that work out?

I say the main reason is because he is now the 'guy' on the team after Indiana dealt O'Neal to Toronto in the summer. is he worthy of that high ranking? I don't think so, but Butler is also regarded pretty high this year: which makes sense since Arenas is expected to be out until early 2009.

ADD
10-01-2008, 12:35 PM
The new offense is Indy is basically being designed for Granger. Now with T.J. Ford and a bunch of young guys on the club, they see Granger as being the focal point for many years to come. Everything goes through Granger.

if you already had your draft, then this obviously won't help now, but I think the consensus #1 player this year is Paul. he practically helps you in all categories (obviously in ASTs, but he's great for FG%) minus REBs and BLKs. it depends on your league settings, but one thing I will tell you is there are two keys to every good fantasy team: a good PG and PF.

Blocks and rebounds, gets a lot of touches. Look at a guy like Gasol, Carlos Boozer or David West (all also have a good PG)

Pollo

PF? How do you figure?

PTS, REBS, BLKS, FG%. most PFs (especially the elite ones) provide excellent stats in those categories. you can also make the claim they turnover the ball much less than guards do. the downfall they bring is FT% (most of them do), but if you find one that doesn't (Amare, David West come to mind), snatch them up.

obviously every fantasy team needs balance, and I'm telling you for playing this game awhile, you can never go wrong with a good PG and PF in the opening rounds of a draft. by the mid rounds, I assure you there will be a lack of good PGs/PFs.

Are we going to fill these leagues?

right now, the Hardcore league is in need of 3 (unless Carl and Pats sign up ... so 1 if those 2 come back) and for the GMF_H2H league possibly 4 (unless Pats and Tua sign up ... so we would need 2 more people). I sent invites to people who have yet to sign up, but I'll do so again.

we can always go 8-team leagues, but I'd rather keep it 10-team leagues. anyone who isn't in neither one of these leagues interested in a spot for one or possibly both leagues?

not too shabby at all ... I love the PGs (you pretty much have assists all wrapped up) and PFs/Cs (although I think you can use another backup). I'm guessing you're taking a chance on Durant, but at least you got Jefferson would should provide alot of offensive output in Milwaukee. if I were you, I'd look to get another backup bigman and see if there's interest in Rondo and Bargnani. since you're so loaded with ASTs, you can afford to shop Rondo around.

Ok I just ran my first draft in about 2 years (I'm more of a Fantasy football guy) so I am a bit rusty, but this is what I got, its a yahoo head-2-head league(I had the #2 pick):

PG: Chris Paul
G: Jose Calderon
SG: Brandon Roy
SF: Carmelo Anthony
PF: Kenyon Martin
F: Al Horford
C: Tyson Chandler
C: Chris Kaman
Util: O.J. Mayo
Util: J.R. Smith
BN: Linas Kleiza
BN: Shaq
BN: Luis Scola

I think my bottom 5 is really weak (but has some upside), but the rest I think is pretty solid.

love the guards since you basically have assists all wrapped up, but I'm worried about your forwards (primarily at PF). Martin just isn't a good fantasy guy to have, so if you can trade for a solid PF like Gasol, Okafor, Josh Smith ... you'll be better off. your team may find it hard to score points since Chandler isn't an offensive machine and Roy off-and-on hurt plus your question marks on the bench.

Having two fantasy basketball teams is rough, I've already forgotten a dozen times who i should be rooting for.

Yahoo doesn't have free stat-tracker for the first week?

What a poop pillow.

I'm sure it will be free for this week, and then they'll offer some special offer to get StatTracker for free if you sign up for something (much like they did for Fantasy Football).

yea that was a big problem as the draft went on I kept losing my chances to grab a good PG... But I hope to get decent assist totals from DWade, T.J Ford, Devin Harris, and Brandon Roy...

Otherwise I will have to keep a close eye on the waiver wire and see if anyone steps up this year...

You could afford to package either Bosh or Jefferson with Artest to pick up a good PG and a mid level big man.

you've got to be shitting me? why wasn't this noted by Rotoworld by now? I knew he was hurting (and it was speculated he'd only miss the opener), but not for 2 weeks. in my winners league which I have him (plus Oden), I still managed to score 120 pts tonight ... so I think I can handle 2-4 weeks minus Dunleavy and Oden.

Mike Dunleavy-G/F - Pacers Oct. 22 - 4:03 am et

Mike Dunleavy (knee) isn't expected back until at least the start of the regular season on Oct. 29.
We are starting to get very concerned about his gimpy knee. The injury appears to be more serious than initially reported and he sounds extremely questionable for opening night, and possibly beyond. He should have a strong season if healthy, but at this point, you're probably better off letting someone else draft him.

well it all depends. is your league a h2h league? if it is, what categories are you currently losing in? if you're losing in some categories which some of your bench guys can help close the gap, play those guys. if it's not a h2h league, I might consider moving Thornton into the starting lineup since Baron will be out tonight -- so he'll help with the offensive load tonight although the Clips have a tough matchup vs. Utah.

Thanks for the comments. My league is a Roto (8 CAT) league so I am considering moving Thornton into the starting lineup in place of Chalmers. But I still think Chalmers will be one of the top rookies this year and I really like him, especially since I am a Miami Homer. :)

Fuck....how long is Diddy gonna be out?

it's speculated a few games:

Baron Davis left Friday's game in the second quarter after taking a hard fall on his backside and did not return.

It's being called a hip injury and Baron is considered doubtful for Saturday's game. We should have more information over the weekend, but he could miss a few games, which is not a good sign for a healthy and productive season. It's also possible that he has a bruised tailbone in addition to the hip problem. Jason Hart will likely start for the Clippers on Saturday, but he's not a great fantasy option. Nov. 1 - 1:58 am et

and Cryp, I'd make that switch -- although I think Chalmers should look decent tonight vs. the Bobcats, so he should provide some nice assist & point numbers.

Kirk Hinrich to miss 12 weeks thanks to grabby Amare Stoudemire

Chicago Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich was examined earlier today by Dr. John Fernandez, and Bulls team physician, Dr. Brian Cole, both of Rush University Medical Center. The results of that exam confirmed the earlier MRI which showed a torn ulnar collateral ligament of his right thumb.
The injury will require surgery, which will be performed on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Rush. Hinrich may be out as long as 12 weeks following his surgery. The injury occurred in the third quarter of last evening’s Bulls win over Phoenix. On the year, Hinrich has appeared in six games and averaged 8.3 ppg, 4.0 apg, 1.8 rpg and 1.33 spg in 24.5 mpg.

Keith Bogans out 4-6 weeks if anyone has him

Keith Bogans of the Orlando Magic will miss approximately four-to-six weeks of action due to a fractured left thumb, General Manager Otis Smith announced in a statement on Monday.

Bogans suffered the injury during the Magic’s game against Houston on Saturday, November 22. Bogans has played in all 13 games (one start) this season for Orlando, averaging 6.4 ppg. and 3.5 rpg. in 24.4 minpg. He is shooting .362 (17-of-47) from three-point range and has scored in double figures three times.

Bogans is currently 179th in RealGM's season FIC and has a per 40 FIC of 8.1 (league median is about 10.0).

Pietrus out 3-5 weeks

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orlando Magic (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=orl) guard Mickael Pietrus (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2173) will be out three to five weeks because of a torn ligament in his right thumb. Pietrus averages nearly 13 points a game and is one of the Magic's main 3-point shooters. He hurt his thumb against Philadelphia last week. Pietrus played with the injury against the Wizards on Thursday but an MRI exam revealed the damage Friday. The injury leaves an already thin Magic backcourt even more depleted. The Magic are already missing backup guard Keith Bogans (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1995) because of a broken thumb, and starting point guard Jameer Nelson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2439) is nursing a pulled groin.
