Guidelines for Television Watching

With the new midseason starting up and the influx of new episodes of 'Lost' coming to invade our forums, I thought I'd through up this F.A.Q. of sorts to make sure all is good in one of my favorite little parts of this Utopian society we call Hell or GMF. Nothing radical. Just some helpful tips to make our lives easier.

1. Spoilers and/or Materials Related to Future Episodes.

There were some pictures that were posted in the 'Lost' thread that were of a future episode that hadn't broadcast and could have potentially ruined that episode for someone. So, for the next time, you can either link the photo rather than just making it a red herring for everyone to see or make sure its cool before posting it.

Anything lifted off a spoiler site (ala spoilerfix.com (http://www.spoilerfix.com/)) should use the handy new spoiler tag to perserve the purity of the show for people who don't like to know every facet of next week's episode. I can't stand watching the previews for upcoming weeks and shouldn't have to have the show spoiled because someone got lazy. I watch because I want to have that first experience of seeing The Carver be revealed as Quentin for myself . . . not to read about it a week before it happens.

2. Summarizations of Episodes

It happens folks. Can't do much about that. People are going to want to talk and this is their only means of frustration when Alias keeps repeating the same storyline over and over again. If you don't watch the show in its first initial run, just avoid the thread until you catch up.

I have nothing else to add. If a another mod or admin wants to add something, by all means destroy my 5 minutes of work on this epic of a guideline.

3. Reviews of New Shows

When you catch a new show, write a review for it in the 'Television: Off Topic' page first before starting a new thread. It makes sure the section isn't inundated with 12 new threads for shows like 'Jake in Progress' and 'Emily's Reasons Why Not' when they are just going to be yanked off the network schedule after a few airings. Plus it also gives you the opportunity to gauge whether a new thread is warranted for further discussion or your thoughts can just be contained to TV:OT.

4. Thread title changes possibly being Spoilerific

Some mods have brought it to my attention that possibly some of the frequently changed thread titles for such shows as '24' and others might contain spoilers within them. When this was addressed by one mod a few months ago, I promised to curb the supposed "problem" and do it less. Well, the "problem" was brought up again a few days ago and I don't have anything to do but put my arms up in confusion. Like I said above, people are going to watch the show in its initial run and I'm going to want to change the thread to show the possible developments in the show. Though I can't find "24: Say It Ain't So, Dr. Romano" spoilerific, someone else did. All I can say again is that people are going to talk/change the thread title when they see fit and the best possible way to avoid any type of spoilerific material is to avoid the thread/section completely till you personally see the show for yourself. We can't delay discussion for everyone to watch the show at the same time. This isn't kindergarten. Sorry.

5. New Threads for new seasons-case by case basis

Ok, some threads clearly have ridiculously lengthy discussion every season, and a fresh thread for a fresh season is a good idea, but some threads for some shows don't need it. So if you think a show needs a new thread an the old one needs to go, ask a mod/admin and we'll take a look and see if it's warranted
