Their live stuff is amazing, I saw them with Pearl Jam a couple years back and they blew me away. As far as I'm concerned it's damn near the perfect metal album. I've always loved the brutality of the riffs Mastodon come up with, but they've always fell short on the songwriting aspect. On Crack The Skye they've not only learned how to write a great song, they've discovered and ran with the solo.

This Phoenix album is really good, but it all kind of melds together. 1901 is the first song I heard, and it's catchy as all getout.

As for the great Animal Collective debate, I fall into the "love My Girls" side. But my favorite song on the record is probably Summertime Clothes. Open to multiple interpretations, it's an innocent pop song at its best, a dark stalker (pedo?) song at worst. Plus it's got a great beat, like the whole record.
