You can really turn someone’s world upside down by altering their perception of what they’d theretofore conceived as being a genuine part of reality. Want proof? Tell a 6 year old kid on Christmas Eve that Santa Claus is a sham perpetuated by grownups that don’t have any greater scheme for keeping their kids in line than to tell them the fat bastard won’t bring them any toys if they misbehave. Sure, the kid might hate you for it now, but hopefully the rage they’ll harbor for their parents for having lied to them will someday lead them to become a productive individual – or at least to robbing a convenience store I don’t happen to be in during the commission of the crime.
