The question is: what happens after season 8?
Zach Braff has already said he's leaving the show after season 8, even if they decide to continue the series.
But even with the lackluster performance of late, I'd really hate for this show to call it quits.

ABC hopes that Scrubs may have a long life on the network. They're bringing in some new interns to refresh the show, and hope that like ER - the show could continue with an evolving cast. Lawrence has said that Season 8 would likely be his and Braff's last season of the show. However, Braff hinted that he may not be entirely finished with the series. When asked about this, Braff said, "If it keeps going I'd love to stay involved. I love directing the show, I love participating. I just won't be there every day anymore. It's kind of like a mom going on maternity leave."

Continuing without Braff and Lawrence would be a very bad idea. Just write the best and funniest season you can, wrap it up all nice and neat. And say goodbye.

heck I'd like to see how the show does without Kelso before I can even fathom how badly the show will be without Lawrence and Braff.
I would love nothing more if it went past Season 8, but after Season 7, it just looks like it's at its end. now if Lawrence is right in that he'll make this season more like Seasons 1 and 2 in terms of goofyness, then it should be a thrill to watch.

since when? he resigned as the chief of medicine, and didn't Ken Jenkins wanted to leave the show -- hence this resignation?
I'm sure he'll make cameos, but not a regular unless I haven't been informed of something.

Actually, Lawrence mentioned that Cox will constantly go to Kelso for advice, so he'll probably at least be a regular.

I never heard anything about Jenkins wanting to leave the show. I'm pretty sure they wrote him off because they thought it was their last season. Just like why they killed Laverne.

I wish I remember where I read that, but if it's true he's staying abroad, that would be awesome because without Kelso, Ted just won't be the same.

It could be an interesting angle, have Ted get some confidence with Kelso not constantly around to torment & demean him. I mean he's gone from funny loser to creepy lonely guy who sleeps with his mom (and possibly SLEEPS with his mom).

I just think there has to be more balance. Some of the really out there stuff is some of the show's best bits (the kung fu fighting scene, Turk accidentally switching his kid with a pumpkin, etc.). But Lawrence has repeatedly said when the show started out (i.e. seasons 1 & 2) it was more of a drama with comedy interlaced, and then it later seasons it became much more of a goofball show, which I think worked pretty well for 3-5, 5 being my favorite season, somewhat worked in 6 and let's just pretend the majority of 7 didn't happen though it did have some very strong episodes (Kelso's leaving being one of them). And he said he wants to go back to more of being a drama with some comedy, which things like a new batch of interns to focus on may help.

ER was able to survive with a rotating cast because the show wasn't centrally focused around one character, the hospital itself was always the main character. In Scrubs Zach Braff is CLEARLY the main character of the show, and it would never be the same without him around.

as much as I would love the show to go on (if Braff were to leave), I think you're right and most Scrubs fans would agree no one can take J.D.'s role. it's like saying no one could of replaced Kevin James' role on the King of Queens, or at least how I see things.
and I hope you're right Erad about Cox going to Kelso for regular advice, despite hearing rumors there will be a new chief of medicine (http://scrubs.wikia.com/wiki/Season_Eight) although that might be temporary. and according to that link, Judy Reyes (Carla) will be leaving, too.

The best way they should have ended it is they all get lock in somewhere and have to tell their favorite story. Their treated a flashbacks but their events that we have never seen before. Then it should have a Wonder Years type ending where we have JD finishing up the script he's trying to sell as a show about his life as a young doctor. He gets up to leave his study and you see some award for Dr. Acula a picture of Him, Carla, Turk and the kids. Then one of the the former staff. JD turns off the light and closed the door.

September 8, 2008 - Scrubs had a rocky road at NBC, with numerous time shifts through the years. Series creator Bill Lawrence has not been shy about speaking up about issues he had with the network's treatment of his show, especially now that it's moved to ABC for Season 8, in the midst of what he felt was more poor treatment.
Scrubs was incredibly ahead of schedule this season, and in fact already shot the season finale this past week, even though the show's ABC debut is still unscheduled - it will return sometime mid-season.
Now, EW.com's Michael Ausiello (http://tv.ign.com/articles/908/website) reveals that NBC had a new affect on Scrubs, despite the network change. While there has been some talk of Scrubs continuing for another season, Season 8 is being treated as the final one by Lawrence, especially since it will definitely be the last for series star Zach Braff. So for the finale, Lawrence came up with a scene that would feature a mass-reunion of guest stars throughout the series.
Ausiello reveals that two of these guest stars would have been Masi Oka and Sarah Lancaster, who both appeared on Scrubs in earlier seasons. However, Oka and Lancaster are currently NBC stars, appearing on Heroes and Chuck respectively. And apparently the bad blood between NBC and Scrubs reared its head, leading NBC to nix Oka and Lancaster appearing on ABC.
http://tvmedia.ign.com/tv/image/article/908/908446/ScrubsNonDuo_1220898671.jpg - NBC
Masi Oka and Sarah Lancaster: Once but not future Scrubs guest stars
Lawrence tells Ausiello, "They both wanted to do it, but NBC said they weren't allowed to. Typical classy stuff." Ausiello notes other networks have been more cooperative CBS for instance allowed Scott Foley, currently on The Unit, to guest star on Scrubs's second to last episode in Season 8.
The scene Oka and Lancaster would have appeared in does include previous guest stars Tom Cavanagh, Amy Smart, and Nicole Sullivan, Ausiello reports, and one of his sources tells him the scene, "turned out awesome. It was very emotional. It should be an incredible finale."

yeah, I posted a link stating Judy Reyes would be leaving the show following this season earlier. and yes, Scrubs isn't going to work w/o J.D. first of all, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if Carla were the only one to leave (but we don't have to speculate that with this being the final season).
and I'd also throw my vote for My Musical ... arguably the best work from everyone on the cast despite some actors' concerns with their signing voices plus the choreography was phenomenal.

and Ted ... yes TED ... has a girlfriend now. has the world come to an end?

Why is it that every time two chicks make out on this show, one of them is dressed like J.D.?
Joe is hot.
I wish her and Elliot would make out...JD wig or not...that's entertainment.

Kelso is swiftly becoming my favorite character...again.
That gooch shit is already tired.
I can already hear the "gooch is crazy" lines being spewed in the coming episodes.

Agreed... they are really pushing this Gooch thing too much. Maybe they will start the next episode with the gooch is dead.

Wow. Just wow. After that, I am firmly in the camp of I don't want another season. That was a fanfuckingtastic way to end this series. I was crying. Fucking hard. Fuck, I'm going to miss these characters. Plus, I don't want to see scrubs without JD. That may have been the best series finale I've ever seen, personally.

pretty much spot on. I think the 'Book of Love' was a great song to close it out with the slideshow. for certain that was Braff's last appearance on Scrubs, but I've read Judy Reyes (Carla) and Sarah Chalke (Elliot) wanted to move on to other projects. how can Scrubs continue w/o JD, Elliot and Carla? I just can't see it ... and it would blow if they continued the show focused on the interns.
it was a great lead in to the slideshow with the suspected Huntington's disease dude giving JD a thought to dwell on.

I feel you man, same here. Maybe the final Episode of Friends wasnt that emotional, but it got me pretty bad too. I am really gonna miss Scrubs, the first Sitcom ever who got me laughing and criying at the same time. I thought Friends was the best Sitcom ever and I would never find somethig like it, but boy, Scrubs couldn be a better replacement for the hole friends left. Now, which Sitcom will replace the Hole left by Scrubs??

Excellent finale, they didn't over do it or under do it. And as usual the music choice was sweet.
Very well done. I liked the "future" scene at the end. I also love how they continue to fuck with your head over the janitor's name. Unless I heard it wrong, after he told JD his name was Glen Matthews, someone came by and called him Tony.

I also liked how the penny thing was the janitor's test of character, and if that hadn't happened, he wouldn't have fucked with JD for years
Something to that effect. It had me laughing so hard.

I think I did read somewhere his real name its suppoused to be Neil Flynn, his real name, since he indeed did act as that Police guy in the Fugitive as showed in the show aswell. Itīs a shame that besides The fugitive and Scrubs he didnt make anything else.

it's true ... some dude called him that after J.D. got done talking to the Janitor.

I think it's great it's still a possible mystery. why reveal anything of the Janitor for his gloomy personality? I think Brian Lawrence did a great job with all these possibilities not only for the Janitor's name, but J.D.'s future. he still left the door open for a possible Season 9, although most of us agree this is the absolute end of the series.

Anyway, someone else did miss Doug Murphy at the end? Colin Hay was a nice surprise.
Edit: I just did read on a trivia, dough was the only long term recurring character not to appear in the last episode. I was anyway suprised the could get all this actors together again. Sure wasnt easy.

Who does Braff think he is? David Caruso? Like he's got too much going on to do this show? What a joke. I saw "Last Kiss", he's not gonna be a movie star. I'm glad Chalke is leaving...one step closer to being nude. She's no actress. She couldn't play dead....she does a good Elliot though.

ABC has confirmed that this will NOT happen. They may move the series to a different hospital, though. I hope they keep it at Sacred Heart and follow last season's interns.
