Jets find solution for breast-exposing problems
.......................

The authority also took steps to prevent harassment of women. Last season, security at the stadium's Gate D was increased at Jets games because hundreds of men would gather at halftime and demand that women expose their breasts. View-blocking banners will be hung on the spiral staircase to help eliminate the problem, which did not occur during Giants games. They also reduced the hours for tailgating. Lame.

they finished the year ranked eighth in defense without their best player who managed to get himself killed. they finished 15th in offense with an inexperienced quartberback who missed the last four games. they also managed to make wildcard playoff appearance by closing out their last four games on the shoulders of a guy who hadn't started an NFL game in a decade.

Washington will only go as far as Campbell can take them. The guy has to learn his 3rd offense in 4 years, which is a daunting task for even the most experienced veterans, let alone for a guy with only 20 games under his belt. Plus being in a division with 3 potential playoff teams is surely not going to help them out.

Several sources are starting to state that the Chicago Bears quarterback competition was decided before Training Camp even began. Further proof pointing that Head Coach Lovie Smith continues to claim the competition is neck and neck despite Kyle Orton haveing turned the ball over twice as much as Rex Grossman. Other indications point to Smith saying Rex and Kyle would play the exact number of plays with the first team offense in last weeks game. Depite the fact Kyle had more plays overall, Smith labeled 4 recievers as #1 recievers and Rex did in fact not play with the same crew as Kyle.

Neat.

Once I start pumping sexy rexy fastballs around the field in Seattle on Saturday with the 1's this competition is fucking over.

The Texans could be a sleeper this year, problem is they play in such a brutal division. I could see them go 6-10 as easily as 10-6. Going to have to beat some division teams other than Jax though. I dont expect them to do anything if they reach the playoffs but just getting to the postseason would be a win considering we havent seen postseason football in Houston in about 15 years.

Hell why not? Better running game. I'm sure Ryan is better than Orton. Turner calls run plays on 3 and 22. Orton has never been able to put points on the board. We have no line. Unless Hester can run back 3 a game every game for the whole season we might get to pick Tim Tebow in the draft.

I still like the idea of putting Hester 20 Yards back in a punt formation and having him run the ball up the field... at least you won't get -7 points every offensive possession.

CINCINNATI -- With their two Pro Bowl receivers hurt, the Cincinnati Bengals (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=cin) brought back troubled receiver Chris Henry (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=8497) on Tuesday, a move that their coach had emphatically ruled out only a month earlier as inappropriate.

The signing helps the team but raises questions about its commitment to holding players accountable for their actions. Henry must serve a four-game suspension from the NFL -- his third such punishment -- before he can fully rejoin the team.

August 21, 2008
Sporting News staff reports

NFL Players Association executive director Gene Upshaw has died at age 63, according to a report.

Clear Channel Online, citing anonymous sources, reports Upshaw, died of pancreatic cancer. NFL Network's Adam Schefter, speaking on Sirius XM's NFL Radio, confirmed the report.

Creating confusion, NFL Radio reported NFLPA director of communications Carl Francis could not confirm the report and was not aware Upshaw was suffering from pancreatic cancer.

Upshaw was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and an 11-time All-Pro. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987. He is survived by his wife, Terri, and sons, Justin, Daniel and Eugene Jr.

McGahee's in the pool, attempts to ride Michael Phelps' coattails...

Willis McGahee, RB BAL
News: Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee (http://bchasse.football.sportsline.com/players/playerpage/396170), currently limited to running in a swimming pool as he recuperates from arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, expects to be running with the football when the season starts. Although he's off crutches, McGahee isn't able to jog yet. He's targeting the Ravens' Sept. 7 season-opener against the Cincinnati Bengals for his return. "I will be ready, but I don't know about playing in the preseason," McGahee said. "We will have to wait and see. It's always making progress. Every day I come out here, it's getting better." Because he can't run yet and the clock is ticking down to the opener, McGahee is making the most out of his aquatic workouts. "I know it ain't exactly running, but running in the pool is great conditioning," McGahee said. "Just ask Michael Phelps."

What? He can't even jog, but expects to carry the rock in two weeks? Unless he's Wolverine, I'm taking the over on this recovery.

The Falcons have their QB. They need help with the O-Line, D-Line, LBs, and Secondary.

And Ryan will throw more TDs than INTs this year. I know it's preseason and all, but he's almost played a full game's worth of reps, and his stats through that "game" would be:

17/31, 175 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT

And that's for a true rookie in his first game, on a really shitty team, playing against two playoff-bound teams.

You mean the Saints offense is awesome, right? Because our defense is about as tough as a warm bowl of Jello. Here, I'll give you the keys to beating the Saints defense right now...

1-Check to see if the Saints are in Man-to-Man coverage. If so, proceed to Step #2.

If Matt Ryan (or any other QB, for that matter) follows those steps, they'll put up monster numbers.

he's now considering season-ending surgery or he'll rehab the injury playing through the pain.

A PCL isn't the worst thing to happen to a knee, and I'd usually think the best thing to do is get surgery now in order to have no lingering affects in the future.

But I really think this is the Chargers' year, and we gotta go balls to the wall.

Nolan has officially declared JT O'Sullivan the starter. This is hardly shocking news, the buzz since the day we signed him was that he had a history with Martz. Noodle arm and small hands have been cast aside, maybe we can see more TDs than INTs? Nah, I won't get my hopes up.

What this shows is that Nolan is so scared for his job that he will straight up admit Smith is a bust by benching him, something I never thought he'd do. Hopefully this season passes quickly so we can fire his ass and move on.

Mike Martz...run...the...ball? Come on, you know better than that.

The offensive line is looking pretty mediocre at this point, they'll be better than last season for sure, but that's not saying much.

Between the o-line on the right side and Martz's offense, Gore will be in a black hole this season. Bet on Vernon Davis getting more touches in the red zone than Gore. Bet on Zak Keasey getting more touches in the locker room than a Catholic priest on a camping trip.

well, I wouldn't say black hole, because Gore gets quite a bit of receptions for a RB, so there's no question you'll see his reception yards go up ... but his rushing yards are a question, but just because Martz is the OC, he'll be fine. how many years was Steven Jackson under Martz?

Only two, and Jackson didn't have his breakout season until the year after Martz was gone. His all-purpose yards doubled and he got about 100 more rushing attempts. Then he got injured. Then Georgia Frontiere died and everyone was happy.

BTW, what's with the photo they show of Bryant Gumbel after Hard Knocks? On HD it looks like they shot it with a Polaroid. It also looks like somebody punched poor Bryant in the mouth repeatedly.

And the Chargers take a huge blow to the D:
Shawne Merriman admits career could be over

Shawne Merriman revealed Saturday that his career could be over. In addition to a torn PCL, Merriman has a torn LCL in his left knee. His knee requires extensive reconstructive surgery. Perhaps Merriman will chance it and play this year, but that would be foolish. His contract is up after the 2009 season and if he has the procedure, Merriman could try continuing his career afterwards. He'd risk more damage by playing on the knee in 2008. He needs to be removed from IDP draft boards. Aug. 23 - 6:13 pm et

Merriman :(

With news of his career with San Diego probably over and my girlfriend leaving for college last night, suicide is an option.

and I'm still getting a feeling the Chargers are hiding something regarding his injuries ... but this is a crushing blow with Gates and Rivers both returning from injuries as well.

it does seem to me he's going to play through the pain (and was surprised to hear he had played with some of these injuries for some time):

"I've been seeing some really great doctors over the past few days and they've all said the same things about the injury," Merriman told the Times. "[They're] kind of surprised that I've been playing with it up to this point." Merriman wants to play football this season.

"That's what I want to do," Merriman told the Times. "That's why this decision is even out there still and not already made, because I want to play, period. The question is what should I do? How long should I play with it?

"It's a thousand different options at this point and I'm just trying to make the best one."

The Chargers' medical diagnosis is that Merriman can play when the season starts Sept. 7. Coach Norv Turner's talks with Merriman buoyed those hopes.

"Based on my conversation, I'm optimistic," Turner told the San Diego Union-Tribune.

If I remember right from his limited time in Detroit, he made questionable decisions and had slightly better arm strength than Chad Pennington

It sucks not having a good quarterback.....which the Lions just solved!!!

ALLEN PARK -- The Lions today added ex-Michigan quarterback Drew Henson to their roster as a replacement for the injured Drew Stanton.
Henson, who has not played in the NFL since the Minnesota Vikings cut him during their 2007 training camp, worked out Friday at the Lions headquarters in Allen Park. Henson will be the team's third quarterback behind Jon Kitna and back-up Dan Orlovsky following Stanton's loss to a thumb injury.
Sorry I had Y2K flashback and thought Henson just finished up at Michigan.

He's not been too bad for a guy we picked up off the streets. It's a real testament to how Alex Smith is, he can't fucking beat out a shitty journeyman. His play isn't bad, it's just the boneheaded throws he makes from time to time.

What I really don't understand is these shitty journeyman QBs that bounce around the league for 10 years, and play for 7 teams. The front office uses lines like, "He has experience learning an NFL offense." No shit, he's been cut from 7 teams.

I guess Alex Smith will now begin a long career as a journeyman QB.

I guess Alex Smith will now begin a long career as a journeyman QB.I don't even see him being able to do that. Even journeymen can make some plays, honestly this guy rarely does jackshit. The only reason people will sign him after we let him go is on the "potential" card, he probably won't spend a full season on any other team's roster.
