Welcome back to the Poker thread.

Last night I stayed up and watched Scotty Nguyen win the Horse Bracelet. Of course he was pretty drunk and being a total ass the whole time. He even turned Eric Lindgren from a fan to an enemy. I doubt it was a permanent move. But it really shows that Scotty was out of hand.

There is nothing scarier than a poker table at Harrah's in Atlantic City during a weekday, noon tournament. I played in one two weeks ago on a Thursday, $120, and I could honestly count the number of teeth the other competitors had total on both of my hands.

It was nice seeing the Poker Brat get so close to his 12th bracelet but ultimately falling short (3rd place) in the $1,500 HORSE tourney.

Holy shit!

I can attest that this is a mathematical anomaly. As a professional poker dealer for over two years, only one time have I ever dealt a straight flush over quads, and it was only an eight high SF over quad 6's. On top of that, of all the people I worked with, I'm the only one to deal that bad of a beat.

It just doesn't happen at all, well, hardly at all. If you see one in person, consider yourself very fortunate (or very unlucky).

Christian Dragomir from Romania is one of my new favorites.
On tonight's episode of the WSOP Main Event he bluffed out Helmuth, who then starts to berate him. After calling him an idiot for the 4th time, Dragomir starts yelling back at him.

The best part was when Phil layed down his hand and Dragomir threw down his cards face up showing his 10-4 offsuit bluff. The entire room exploded in cheers and laughter. They knew the Helmuth "blow up" was coming.

Fucking tits. If you haven't watched it, do. It's right at the end of this week's 2nd episode.

I love Daniel Negreanu, and I think he is great at reading opposing players, but I think he gets a little too much credit, as well. There are plenty of players out there like Allen Cunningham, and even Gus Hansen, who are extremely good at putting the other guy on a very small range of hands. The difference is that Daniel uses that information to psyche the player out by talking about it.

Dennis Phillips has a ton of chips, and showed that he wasn't afraid of any of the big guns in the tournament, but he also ran EXTREMELY well.

I'd have to say that Chino Reem is the favorite in terms of skill, but he is also susceptible to big swings in his chip stack, so he could either win the whole thing, or be out in 15 minutes.

Losev's push/pull was clearly a string bet, and its ridiculous that the tournament director didn't make him commit those chips to the pot. The excuse that the chips "weren't released" is moronic, because they are committed/released as soon as they are past the commit line at the table. No such line exists on the WSOP tables, so the commit line then becomes anything that is placed in front of your cards. Complete bullshit ruling.

Everything up to that point, I could live with, but calling "time" was horseshit. It was a huge call, the guy's Main Event was on the line and she didn't even wait a minute before she called clock. That was nearly as classless as Phil H.

PS - How come Phil gets astonished at the horrible plays from other players meanwhile he donked off most of his chips cuz he couldn't get away from his pocket 3's when the flop showed 3 overcards? I'm pretty sure that his opponent was playing the late position and gave every indication that he was playing from a position of strength. Seriously, if the roles had been reversed and the other player had caught a set on the river, Phil would have exploded.

so...now that we've seen how we got to the November 9, who's gonna win?

I know that Dennis Phillips is an amatuer, but given that he's got the biggest chip stack and he's playing very well, he's got to be one of the favorites. He's made some great calls. Demidov had success making the WSOPE main event final table and is #2 in chips. He made some good plays but even he should have got knocked out by Chino Rheem but caught a lucky card on the River. Speaking of Chino Rheem, he's had some tough plays, made some great calls, some bad calls and got lucky as well. Eastgate is a young kid, but a solid player. Two Canadians, Cunningham, good player, but his big chipstack has everything to do with a lucky win. Suharto is actually one of the lower chipstacks, but he was really active, knocking out plenty of players late in the tourney. Marquis and Kelly Kim are low chip stacks and probably just happy to be there. Kim is so low that he's going to have to move all in pretty early. Ylon Schwartz is a good player, but damn, he caught so many cards, I'm not sure what to think.

There's actually only three other players who can hurt him on an "all in" call but you are correct about momentum. 4 players are bunched near the top, 4 players bunched in the middle and then 1 short stacked player who need to double up twice to stay in it.

Pretty underwhelming show tonight. I'm not sure if it was the play that was subpar, or just the coverage, or if it was just that it had been so overhyped, but there just wasn't a lot of compelling poker, other than a couple of rough beats taken by Chino and Marquis.

I was amazed, however, that Ylon Schwartz was able to get off the hook on his King-high flush heads-up with Demidov, when he only would have had to put $4 million into a $12 million pot. From their other hands against each other, it seemed like Ylon had a pretty good read on Demidov, so I'm sure that played a factor. Still a great laydown.

So true. I thought that Dennis made a mistake early on when he didn’t push with his AK against Ivan. Ivan was pretty ballsy with that AQ. Dennis lost a huge pot in that hand and I can’t help but wonder what would have happened if he had gone all in preflop. Not to say that Dennis isn’t a good player but he certainly seemed off at the final table. He still seemed to try and intimidate players or buy pots when he wasn’t the chip leader and it would cost him. Ivan certainly had a good read on Dennis.

So I had a King, King, King, seven, seven full house

We argued over who won the hand for 15 minutes. We looked it up and some site gave it to him.
