In development for PSP and mobile phones, Square Enix's third Parasite Eve (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasite_Eve_%28video_game%29) game has largely been – like many of the company's titles are wont to be – a mystery. A new Famitsu interview with director Hajime Tabata (who's also heading up Fantasy Agito XIII for PSP) reveals that the game is a third-person shooter. Square Enix ... third-person shooter ... Dirge of Cerberus ... yikes!

Thankfully, Tabata says that while the game may share a genre with the reviled FFVII spin-off, it's different in that it's a "true" third-person shooter. Dirge was ... not-so-true, evidently. The game may also boast Wi-Fi play, something that Tabata says his team is "investigating." Hey, the game's lead, Aya Brea, is an investigator of sorts ... maybe she can help with that?

(Fun fact: If the above image were to be used as the game's US box art, it would receive an automatic "M" rating from the ESRB ... because Aya is pointing her gun directly at the "viewer." Fun!)

The first two Parasite Eve games were pretty good, and they could also be considered "third person shooters" in a very broad sense, so I wouldn't be too quick to slap the Dirge of Cerberus label on it yet.

Oh Jesus Christ, fuck yes.

PE2 is one of my favourite games EVER. Let's just hope they'll port it to the PS2...

i haven't played any of the pe games. how similar is this to something like, say, silent hill or fatal frame?

Think the early Resident Evil games, with a little Final Fantasy thrown in.

Yeah, this is one of those PS games that I kept saying, "That looks cool, I should pick that up" and then I never did.

PE2 is one of my PS1 faves. Great plot development, and just the right balance between action and horror. There's a boss called burner who's quite a sight to behold.

PE2 is honestly one of my favourite games ever. The very idea of a new one gives me a little bit of a stiffy.

I loved PE, but never played PE2. After watching that clip, looks like I missed out. Are the controls the same as the first game?
