Yeah the last episode airs Sunday. Probably should have done that too. I watched the first 5 in a row, had to wait a week for the sixth episode and couldn't really remember where I left off.
Is it good, someone said band of brothers meets iraq type thing

Its too slow and the characters dont stand out like The Wire

Thats because The Wire is fictional...
This shit actually happened and is STILL happening over there.
Best account of the Iraq conflict ever.

Hope no one forgets that this is based off a non-fiction book.

This is an awesome show. Definitely worth a download if you don't have OnDemand. Only thing is its only 7 episodes long and it ends this Sunday. Hopefully they might crank out a 2nd half soon.

Again...
This is a true story, so there won't be a part 2. First Recon only made the push into Baghdad.

So this guy I work with loves this show as much as I do but he is predicting that Brad dies in the last episode.
He did not know that this show was based off a book.

He MUST read the book, I'm on round 2. The 'Afterword' alone helps explain some quirky behaviors.
Did any of you realize that Sgt. Rudy Reyes actually plays 'himself'? I believe I mentioned this at the old site. But just encase...

Dude, I live in Baltimore. The names arent the same, but the Wire is not fiction.

Yeah as Bill said there won't be a second part due to the fact that the series is based on actual events. One thing the show tries to do is really try and make everything as realistic as possible. They even have one (or two?) of the Recon Marines cast in the show. One of them being Rudy Reyes (Fruity Rudy if you remember from the first episode). There are lots of videos on youtube of behind the scenes footage, interviews with the actors. It's quite interesting seeing what the actors have to say, and what they had to be put through prior to filming.

Good to see they ended that Wire. Too many bleeding hearts for all the disenfranchised drug dealers who could go to school but decide to litter our nation with their filthy drugs. This Generation Kill is the same way. They should have just fragged that whole area and claimed it America's parking lot.

Lots of it is based on real life, Avon was based on a real dude as were a lot of other characters.
I think Generation Kill is brilliant. However it is an odd show, very much like Jarhead, in that it is all about these guys wanting to be warriors when there isn't much fighting to do, and then trying to keep their sanity as the tension wrenches up.
It isn't anywhere near as deep or affecting as the Wire, there isn't a whole lot of subtext and unusually for Simon and Burns they have been quite explicit in who are the good guys and bad guys, and what a fuck up the whole mess was on every level, but some of the character work is as good as anything I have ever seen.

It's difficult to do. With the Wire, they knew from the start that they will be on for 5 seasons, with 60 odds episodes to tell your story, you can put layer after layer on your characters, develop them on a more complete way. Whereas with only 7 ep, you don't have that luxury. And that my problem with GK. This show deserved more than that. It was brilliant at time (hell, most of the time, really) but I thought that the characters were caricaturals as you said, there were the good, the bad and the batshit insanes. It was too black and white, a bit of grey would have been welcome, but you can't do that in such a short serie.

A good Marine friend of mine came over and watched every episode with me. He got out 3 weeks before 9-11 and got called back a year later for 9 months, so he wasn't in Iraq. But he was stationed and saw action in East Timor and the United Arab Immarates. He was with a Humvee unit similar to this one.
We grilled out red meat and brats every week, Drank pabst, smoked weed, and watched this show. Watching this show with him was fucking awesome.
It is really the best and most realistic show that I have ever watched. It sucks it's over, but man they made a masterpiece.
You are right about it though. As much as I loved the show, it was like sticking his dick in pussy for the 1st time for him.

This was like B.O.B but in modern times. HBO mini-series can never do wrong.

I thought the last episode was real good, not the best of the bunch but certainly not the worst.

Fuck, I didn't realize that the show ended. I was waiting yesterday evening for an episode on HBO...lulz
Anyways, I loved Ziggy's character. Whoever that actor is rules. Hope he makes it big.
Let's just hope True Blood kicks ass.
