I finally caved and played this game the other day at a party. The only thing i really enjoyed was the vocals.

Guitar/bass is just like guitar hero and therefore gay.

Drums were decent but im not coordinated enough.

I thought the vocals were pretty easy but fun.

A friend of mine sang say it ain't so and played drums at the same time. I'm not sure how hard that is to do but it was pretty cool to see.

They release songs every week. Usually 3 or 4 a week, then a big week once a month with a full album.

They expect to have 500 songs for Rock Band 2 (including the Rock Band 1 songs and older downloadable songs) available by the end of the year.

And yeah, Offspring announced they put in for 5 other tracks besides Hammerhead (Keep Em' Separated is on RB2). The other ones will most likely be downloadable songs at the end of the year, or sometime next year.

Remember back around Christmas, when we were promised a Rock Band patch which would allow people to use Guitar Hero III controllers? You know, the patch which was going to allow PS3 owners the same features as the Xbox 360 version? Sure, it never appeared, but it seems that Sony is making sure that such a thing never happens again. Michael Shorrock, director of 3rd party relations, has posted up some info on the PlayStation.Blog stating that Rock Revolution, Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour's instruments will all be compatible with each other.

Not only that, but Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2 will support SingStar microphones. This is great for those of us who are interested in picking up all of these games, but are a little less interested in having our living rooms full of plastic drum sets and guitars. The good news doesn't end there, though. That patch we mentioned at the beginning of this post may still see the light of day. Shorrock says they're "still working hard to ensure compatibility between the Guitar Hero and Rock Band titles currently on the market, and we hope to have an announcement on that shortly."

Well...they are toy drums. They aren't supposed to be played like a "real drummer". Probably why so many of the rock band drums get busted. I don't play that hard. So no worries.

Yeah, but now it's only for 90-days. The OGs that bought it (like myself) a full year's worth of free warranty.

I do the same, it's hard to find the vocal range if you don't know the song.

90% of the songs on the game I either knew, had heard, or new other stuff by the artist. That helps. If I know the artist that does a song, you can usually tell what the pitch will be.

For example, I only knew 3 of the 6 Boston songs, but was able to 5-star all of them since I was familiar with their sound.

Are you a big fan of the industry-dominating (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3169426) rhythm genre, but feel that Rock Band 2 (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3168260)'s mostly secular set list (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3168712) could use a healthy dose of Jesus? Then you may want to hold off on any major faux rock-related purchases until September 25, when Guitar Praise: Solid Rock (http://store.digitalpraise.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=72) ships for PC and Mac. GameDaily dredged up (http://www.gamedaily.com/games/guitar-hero-world-tour/playstation-3/game-features/guitar-hero-for-christians/) a few details on the Digital Praise-developed game, whose equally pious brethren include Dance Praise (http://store.digitalpraise.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=8) and Solomon Says (http://store.digitalpraise.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=25). Guitar Praise will apparently feature 52 God-approved tracks from some of the biggest acts in Christian rock, including Flyleaf, Petra, Whitecross, Skillet, Newsboys and more. Multiplayer modes were also mentioned, allowing for a second player to hop on bass guitar or partake in a very familiar-sounding "PowerDuel" -- involving power-ups that screw with the opposition's performance. No word as of yet if these instruments will be compatible (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3169406) with Rock Band or Guitar Hero (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3167823), but don't hold your breath.
In the face of such overwhelming competition this Fall, a niche title like Guitar Praise might seem like it doesn't have a prayer. Still, don't be too surprised if this thing actually sells; more than enough parents did a spit-take when they caught their children rocking out alongside Lucifer in Guitar Hero III (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3159776). We can't help but imagine the joy on little Timmy's face when he sees a guitar-shaped box under the Christmas tree, followed by the crushing disappointment once he discovers it's Guitar Praise and not Guitar Hero: World Tour or Rock Band 2. And Ralphie thought he had it bad with a pink bunny suit.

(yes, i know it's a rip of GH...but it'll prob get a rock band too)

Being of the bellicose sort, Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central's The Colbert Report has shown no hesitation to air his feuds with notable notables. One such bout began in 2006, when the faux right-wing pundit attacked indie rockers The Decemberists (http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/79254/december-07-2006/green-screen-challenge---counter-challenge). Colbert alleged the band lifted wholesale his idea of a green-screen challenge, whereby he performed a martial arts routine in front of the screen, and urged fans to fill in the backdrop.
http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/images/2008/254/StephenColbert881_embed.jpg (javascript:open_blog_image_viewer('2008/254/StephenColbert881_screen.jpg');) As part of this feud, Colbert evidenced his own musical background by rolling the music video of his 1980s hit "Charlene (I'm Right Behind You)," as performed by new wave not-quite-legends Stephen and the Colberts. Gamers can now reexperience his "hit" song, courtesy of MTV Games and Harmonix's rhythm game Rock Band. The game developer revealed today that "Charlene (I'm Right Behind You)" is now available for download free of charge for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions of the game.
Colbert's original video, along with in-game footage of the song being performed on expert, can be viewed on the official Rock Band Web site (http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79103). granted...but it would be a shitty electronic drum set. If you want to play real drums, either get an actual drum set, or pony up the money to get a GOOD electronic set.

I have a feeling most of the people who get the ION set will use it just for Rock Band, even though it is also "fully funtional"

...just like how most people who play rock band play by themselves, even though it's not remotely supposed to be a 1-person game.

(really, no Guitar Hero thread?)

http://media.1up.com/media?id=3614457&type=lg
Metallica's latest album, Death Magnetic, was finally released to the world on September 10 -- including to Guitar Hero III (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3159776) players, as the album was also released (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3169807) in-full as downloadable content. But according to keen-eared fans who've heard both versions, it turns out the sound quality in the Guitar Hero DLC is actually better than the quality of the retail CD. And according to Ian Shepherd, a mastering engineer and DVD author at SRT, they aren't just hearing things. In a post (http://mastering-media.blogspot.com/2008/09/metallica-death-magnetic-sounds-better.html) on his personal blog (via Yahoo! Games (http://videogames.yahoo.com/feature/metallica-s-new-album-sounds-better-in-guitar-hero/1247989)), Shepherd provides photographic evidence (shown above) that the CD version of Death Magnetic suffers from far greater compression than the Guitar Hero DLC. "As you can easily see, the CD version on the bottom has been heavily compressed, limited and/or clipped, and sounds massively distorted as a result," Shepherd writes.
But why was the audio on the CD compressed so heavily? Apparently, the compression of the audio increases the loudness of the music in the CD release -- that is, if you listened to two CDs at the same volume on the same CD player, the one with compression similar to Death Magnetic would still sound louder (it's the same technique used to make television commercials sound louder than the shows they run in between). While this does result in a louder album (which you would think may be what metal fans are looking for), Shepherd also argues that it destroys the quality of the music in the process.

f rumors (http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92313) on the game's official forums are to be believed, Rock Band (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3164685) may not be catering exclusively to fans of rock and roll for much longer. Rock Band 2 (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3168258) community members are abuzz over a CMT news report from Saturday afternoon that supposedly outed the developer's plans to release country music as downloadable content. Details are beyond scarce, but the alleged CMT report points to December as the expected release date. While nobody is offering official confirmation at this point, a Harmonix developer with the handle HMXHenry chimed in on the thread to help calm things down. In addition to the standard, non-committal response commonly applied to rumors like this, Henry also directed the following statement toward country music detractors:
"Furthermore, this thread blows my mind. With so many genres represented in Rock Band already, why would the addition of country be such a huge shock? We'll have country in RB sooner or later. Ideally we'll have all the various subgenres that people are clamoring for (hardcore punk, goth, ska, etc) eventually. We haven't shut the door on anything."Indeed, the addition of country music to Rock Band shouldn't come as much of a surprise. CMT was already involved in sponsoring Harmonix's Karaoke Revolution Country (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3147441), and CMT itself is owned by Viacom -- the same company that oversees MTV and MTV Games. Moreover, Rock Band spent the Summer touring (http://events.rockband.com/event.php?id=13) with country mainstays Brooks & Dunn, which parallels other tour-to-DLC partnerships from earlier this year.

Rather Gorgeous...

http://media.1up.com/media?id=3637408&type=lg
Logitech is a brand name that most people are familiar with, so it should come as no surprise to anyone that they have decided to try their hand with creating premium music peripherals. When they announced the Logitech Wireless Guitar Controller Premiere Edition for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 versions of the Guitar Hero (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3141536/) franchise, I did not bat an eye. That is, until I saw the thing. The first premiere peripheral has been licensed by Activision for all Guitar Hero games, including the upcoming Guitar Hero: World Tour (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3167821/). The controller features metal frets and peg handles, a rosewood fingerboard, and a wooden neck, and it is wireless, of course. The authentic look and feel of the guitar is rounded out by the one-piece contoured shape with a sleek and shiny crimson body.
In addition, rubber dome technology has been introduced to the peripheral to cut down on fret noise, and a new touch-sensitive neck slider has been incorporated so that users will not always have to keep strumming. The slider can also be used to create a wide variety of sounds via World Tour's Music Studio. It will take two AA batteries to power the guitar, and it comes complete with a "gig bag" so it won't get scratched up during transport should you decide to take it out of the house. The gig bag includes space for your discs and wireless receivers as well.
Charles Huang, vice president of business development for Red Octane, had this to say regarding the announcement:
"With this new controller, Logitech is giving Guitar Hero fans the opportunity to unleash their inner rock stars in a new, authentic way." "Authentic" may be stretching it; it is, after all, not a real guitar. However, the price is pretty authentic. This baby will be going for a suggested retail price of $249.99. While that is one very sexy guitar, it's just too bad it costs so damn much. But really, how much is too much when you want to be the coolest faux-shredder on the block? Start scrimping now, write a letter to Santa, or start relentlessly begging your parents, because the Logitech Wireless Guitar Controller Premiere Edition will be hitting select retail stores in December -- just in time for Christmas.

I'm hearing rumors that some Best Buys have the cymbal expansion packs IN STOCK.

I'm gonna check the one by my house to see if it is there. I hear they really vamp up the overall fun-ness of the drums.

That takes some fucking time...

Jericho

No, still have yet to do that. But I unlocked it and the credits rolled and shit. Do you have to do that in one sitting?

ShitBreak
10-29-2008, 11:08 AM
One sitting? It's an endless setlist. It's like a setlist of 4 or 5 songs...except it is 84 songs.

You can pause it and stuff, but you have to do it all at once. You can't get halfway through, save it and turn the machine off.

The best trophy you can get though is the Iron Bladder trophy. Go through the Endless Setlist without pausing the game.

I said the same thing.

I never even did the Endless Setlist on RB1. I got "finished" with the game, but never did it. I'm gonna do it on this one eventually. But I'll just break it up over a whole weekend. Do about 25 songs each day over 3 days.

this is true. Most places (even online) have no idea what's going on with the cymbals. My local Best Buy was the same way. I asked about them, and the employee told me they were in, but they weren't sure when they were releasing. I got him to get one and check for me. . .Street date October 26th. So, I was able to buy my pack. Gamestop had no idea and nothing comes up in their system even.

However, only the 2-pack is out right now. The other (single and triple) packs are due out at a later date. $30 for the 2-pack. This pack comes with 2 single clamps, one for each cymbal so if you want to add a third later the single pack will work. (comes with a "y" clamp) The 3 pack will also come with this "y" clamp.

All 3 color "nuts" come w/ the 2-set however. I'm not sure what I think yet. They tend not to clamp down tightly enough on the aluminum rods the cymbals come with. I see myself slowly tapping them lower and lower as I play through songs. (although I haven't even gotten a chance to actually TRY them yet)

Remember, RB2 does not see them as separate inputs except in drum fills and the freestyle mode. I'm hoping GH:WT does however.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but couldn't find a RB2 thread:

Apparently Toys R Us had a misprint in there ad this weekend which listed Rock Band 2 Special Edition (Full Band Kit) for $110 and a free $25 gift card.

Most stores already have pulled the stock on those, but the geniuses at Wal-Mart are price matching. Stores are suppose to call the closest Toys R Us and ask if they have an stock, and then only price match if they have it, but most store employees don't want to call another store.

Here's the threads that have all of the proof: Link (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=401705&t=1076306) or Link (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/?f=604)

All you have to do is have a printed ad from Toys R Us and take it into a Wal-Mart and most stores are pricematching it. so RB2 for $110.

The ad is good until Sunday the 21st.

I love it. I'm not necessariliy awesome by any means (unlike a couple of our kids) but I do pretty decent on normal levels. As much as I like Rock Band 2 I think I'm actually starting to like Guitar Hero World Tour better. The guitar parts have always been better (although much harder) but feel much more like you're actually playing the song. Now that World Tour works with drums (even the RB2 drums), mic etc it's much more enjoyable.

But I still find myself buying tracks for both games. Oh, I have mine on XB360 so not positive it's the same layout for PS3 but in answer to where to find DLC, I'd think you'd have an option for the Rock Band Store in-game for PS3. (it's much easier that way on XB360 than via the XB Dashboard)

New DLC for next week. No interest to me, maybe some of you guys will dig this:

Happy New Year! It is my distinct pleasure (being a huge fan and all) to announce that next week's DLC will be 6 tracks by the legendary Roy Orbison. What a way to kick off 2009!

Claudette
In Dreams
Mean Woman Blues

Ooby Dooby

All tracks are masters. Tracks will be available each for $1.99 (160 Microsoft Points) or $9.99 (800 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) for the full pack. The Roy Orbison pack will release on Tuesday, January 6th on Xbox 360 and Thursday, January 15, 2009 for PS3 (due to the holiday break).

Well, this thread is dead, guess I got a little bit late on the rockband bandwagon.

Anyway, my drums are noisy, I can get one of those original rb drum heads with some skulls on them for like $18, but I wonder what is the best cheapass way to get it done. Any thoughts?

They've released a lot of songs since the last time they got posted here, but here the newest ones. yay!.
